Jack Colback could bring in a decent £5M in this summer’s transfer market if we can sell him.
After being involved in a training altercation with Rafa Benitez last August the local lad has no future at the club.
He was already training with the U23 squad when one of our first players picked up a knock, and Rafa wanted Jack to fill in for him – but he refused.
That was it on Jack Colback – you don’t say no to Rafa Benitez when he makes a reasonable request in training.
Jack Colback wants to be on Newcastle’s books until next summer
Jack signed on as a free agent from Sunderland in the summer of 2014 on a five-year deal, and he seems determined to become a free agent again next summer.
Nottingham Forst and other clubs are interested in buying him, but a barrier to that are his £40K/week wages.
And that’s also a reason why Jack wants to remain a Newcastle player for another year.
Rafa may try to force the issue since it does mean around £5M for his transfer coffers.
We will have to see what happens but it seems Jack would be happy enough to go on loan again.
That could possibly mean a return to Nottingham Forest on loan to see out the last year of his lucrative contract at Newcastle.
We’ll have to wait and see what happens but all transfers have to be completed by Thursday, August 9 since the Premier League starts on the following weekend.
The Premier League fixtures are to be released this Thursday.

Optimism is fine, it is a feeling and is free. Ambition is another, it requires commitment, investment and seriousness of purpose.
Rafa said before he signs any contract extension, that he will need to be convinced that the club (aka Ashley) share his ambition for the club’s future. So far, and hopefully this changes over the next month or so, I don’t think anyone can say we are seeing signs of ambition from team management.
However it is still early, there is a World Cup to take in. Perhaps this summer window will be a good one! I hope so….but I’m not feeling optimistic!

Comment #122“Optimism” is not the correct term I think. A degree of “rational confidence” in seeing a better group of players next term and in Rafa eventually signing an extension more apt, imho.

Aye, the Mitro situation is not as clear cut as some think. Most bloggers and Dr Ed, are pretty sure that Mitro will be traded, regardless of his performance at Fulham, or whatever he does in the WC.
But despite a million theories about why Rafa did not play Mitrovic regularly, they remain only that: theories. Only Rafa knows for sure. Mitro has maintained in interviews that he is still a Newcastle United player and has also continued to voice respect for Rafa and maintained his love for the Toon army.

Comment #124Yeah, and added to that replacing Mitro is likely not going to be Rafa’s highest priority. First up we need a starting number 9, winger, cover at fullback, then I think second striker, which could easily mean a Gayle or Joselu upgrade, and even an upgrade at DM before a Mitro upgrade.

Comment #125Maybe even an upgrade at CB before he gets to Mitro. Then again he might well be good as gone. Who knows?

Comment #126Also added to your list I think we need a true #10, to compete with Ayoze and provide cover.
I totally trust that Rafa knows exactly what the team needs are and the type of players he wants. The question is only, will Ashley support him.

Comment #127As I see it, Ashley will support him, but only with the money already in, and that will be only so much.

Why don’t I lay off Jib? I? Am I his only critic?
You might ask yourself why he deliberately broke the blog a second time? Could it be he thinks he’s a law unto himself, one who believes he can do and say what he likes without reaction?

Comment #133WBA after Cairney because they think they’ll have a space in their squad after offloading Ronnie Donnie onto NUFC ?
Don’t know what the hacks are smoking but it’s clearly not very good quality.

Comment #137Martoon – “I’m struggling to understand how last night jib accidentally broke page 1 of the blog by posting a string of z’s. Tsunki deliberately copied this by posting another long string and breaking page 2 – yet somehow it was Jib’s fault – go figure?”
Ok so you don’t like reading stuff. I’ll explain.
Jib broke the blog with a row of z’s, I’d say unintentionally
Chicousa posited it should have wrapped and thought jib had used some code trick to do it
I put a long string in myself to demonstrate how it was a problem with the blog comment format
I thought it was the same page but unfortunately it generates another broken page. Ho hum.
There was nothing of any substance being talked about anyway.. probably why you didn’t read the discussion.
Explained. Get over it. I have.

Comment #140So Everton are now having to watch their budgets having spilled money all over the place on Cenk Tosun and Fat Sams get me out of here £6m contract pay off ?
According to The Northern Echo they’re now interested in Ben Gibson because Lascalles is too rich for them not because it was never going to happen anyway. But meanwhile other red tops have them ready to burn money on Das Bost and others.
Trying to catch up with Liverpool, ain’t going to happen.
Sounds like they’re trying to sell papers to Scousers.
“That has scared off Everton, with Silva having accepted that he will have to keep a close eye on funds this summer. Everton’s major shareholder, Farhad Moshiri, sanctioned a huge outlay last summer, and is keen to see the current squad pruned before new arrivals are added. In effect, Silva has accepted he will have to sell to buy, with last season’s wage bill understood to have been close to £140m.
Spending around £30m on Lascelles would take up a huge chunk of Everton’s anticipated summer budget, so Silva has put forward Gibson’s name as an alternative option.
The Everton board would hope to sign the Middlesbrough centre-half for around £20m, making him a cheaper option than Lascelles.”

Koeman I think dropped a major clanger with his buying at Everton
He seemed pretty much to disregard defence
Ashley Williams was never a replacement for John Stones
Jagielka Coleman Baines are all getting on Mori the Argentine turned out a flop.
Some major rebuilding work at the back needed methinks
