Transfer Close – But No Fee Agreed For Newcastle Defender

The Northern Echo are reporting today that Chancel Mbemba has agreed a four year deal with Porto and is close to joining the club.

Mbemba has not had much of a look-in at Newcastle since Rafa Benitez arrived at Newcastle and it’s best for his career that he leaves for pastures new.

The Mirror yesterday reported that Newcastle want £8M for Mbemba which is close to what we paid Anderlecht for him three years ago.

Chancel Mbemba – fee between £5M and £8M?

But the Northern Echo today are quoting sources in Portugal reporting the fee is closer to £5M for the defender.

Rafa sees no future for the DR Congo International on Tyneside and will want an early transfer, so he has some money available to bring players into the club this summer.

The player’s agent, Fabio Baglio had this to say before he had to catch a plane:

“We are effectively in negotiations, but he’s not a Porto player yet.”

“I cannot comment any more for now. The plane will take off, I will have to hang up.”

Matz Sels is also close to leaving with a move to Anderlecht close.

But there’s a problem with the fee.

The Belgium club only want to pay £1.75M for the goalkeeper which is around  £500K short of Newcastle’s valuation.

Lee Charnley and Rafa Benitez have lots of work to do this summer in moving lots of players out and bringing some good players in before August 9th when the transfer window closes.

Comments welcome.

The report I read was anderlect only willing to pay £5m for mbemba, Porto willing to pay more. If the selz fee is just a matter of £500k, then just sell him. Why bother over £500k. Anderlect are p takers though after mitro issue last January an dnow this.

Wow, berisha gone for 7m euros (£6m) with another million in bonuses. Why bother track players for at least 18 months when they go for dirt cheap, you become uninterested. Won’t get better value than that in terms of fee and wages.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a embargo on transfers in place until some more players leave, we can’t have a situation where every year 5 or 6 or evermore increasing numbers are out on loan and we get just part of the wages back. Then signing more cheap risky players and increasing the problem. If they aren’t good enough get rid. With a good clearlut we’d be in a position to go forward with a 2 in 2 out per window. Much more manageable.

I think this is a deal that will come back to bite us badly. Very solid player and very young for a fee that wouldn’t even buy us an average Championship player nowadays. I like Rafa a lot but the Mbabu and Mbemba and Mitrovic situations are huge mistakes imo. It’s hard to even see any light at the end of the tunnel when we’re selling our best players for peanuts whilst teams like West Ham are close to signing £28m Felipe Anderson and in talks with Pastore and where are we??? Oh that’s it I forgot we’re linked with Ben Osbourne and and Swansea reject called Roque Mesa. Ambition of a relegated league 2 football club

There’s 57 more days of the window in the UK
The WC is on for the next 30 days or so .
Teams will start being eliminated in 15 days
    Loads of time for transfers
Foreign clubs can buy English registered players for
more than 3 weeks after our August 9 deadline
Everyone should just calm the f@ck down

Players linked with exits: Gayle – stoke, merino – various Spanish clubs, mitrovic – Fulham, lacelles – Everton, mbemba – Porto, sels – anderlect, lejune- Spanish clubs.

The strongest news is mbemba sels and mitro exits. I’d be surprised if lejune or lacelles exit. If we sold Gayle and mitro for a good price each we could have a very good striker.
Although sels is the only one of those that wouldn’t need replacing.

Who knows who we are bidding or scouting for – so 99.9% of players linked are going to be just rumours.

I agree that everyone needs to relax but i know that is difficult when this transfer window is looking like all the others.

Calm down?? Aye just like the last three windows,or the one where we bought no one, or the one when we bought four largely unheard of players, that were all crap, except Anita who wasn’t great but ok, or the window when we chesed Gomis all summer for 8M to turn him down for free the summer after, or the one when we made a bid for Bryan Ruiz and 22;59 on deadline day etc etc etc.

Mikel Merino made just eight appearances in this calendar year for Newcastle United in all competitions, but that hasn’t stopped him from attracting serious interest from several big clubs in Spain.

The defensive midfielder has been a transfer target for Real Betis, Athletic Club Bilbao and Real Sociedad. Estadio Deportivo reported on June 13th that Merino has several offers on the table and the player now has to decide the club that is best suited for him.

Today’s edition of Spanish newspaper AS claims that all three clubs are willing to offer him a five-year deal, something which has also been stated previously. However, the player wants to put forward certain conditions that could put one club in front of the others.

Merino wants his next club to include a reasonable release clause, say around €60m. This will improve his chances of joining a bigger club, if there is any interest from any of them in the future. The 21-year-old also wants assurances of playing time from the potential suitors.

Merino has “asked” Newcastle to let him leave the club in the summer transfer window. The clubs willing to meet the above conditions will have to negotiate with the Magpies. The Tyneside club are said to be looking for €15m to allow the Spanish midfielder leave St James’ Park.

Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay, along with Erik Bretos, the coordinator to director of football Roberto Olabe, have traveled to England to “convince” the leaders of Newcastle to sanction Merino’s transfer.

I think the best striker we could go for (if Ashley allows it ) is Willian Jose he would probably cost £25-£30 million

Then we could spend the rest of the transfer budget on Kenedy

one moot point regarding the the european window being still open when ours is shuts,
it will be of no help at all if Rafa has to sell before he can buy !!!!!

I can’t believe this, chronicle saying benitez has budget similar to last summer, so basically £30/40m, no transfer record breaking AGAIN, where the f has all the money gone?! This is so frustrating considering wolves are about to get Cancelo for £30m, West ham are about to get Anderson for £26m, these are the type of deals we need to be competing for, yet we haven’t put in a SINGLE bid for anyone

Just got a look at the fixture list. I could almost weep after reading the first 8 fixtures. The side needs to build momentum, not fight back from precipice after 2 months. I cannot see the side beating 10th next season… looks like it is going to be a real struggle—unless there is an unexpected transfer splurge. God help us if Benitez goes. Imagine what would happen if a new manager came in and the side was sitting on about 4/5 points after 8 games.

Like last season, Rafa is wanting players in earlier to work with them before season starts. It’s not very good if we are planning to sign afternoon the World Cup or something. Nothing wrong with making moves and trying to agree deals in principle. We just seem to be switched off completely and letting players that we’ve tracked for a long time go for £6-7m.

Also if we can’t afford Kenedy (an unused Chelsea youngster), a smart move would be to meet Shaqiri’s £12m release clause I think. A very good player with huge sell on potential. Someone mentioned Jonathan Bamba also on free, top player. Sell Gayle instead of Mitro and bring in Rondon (questionable goal scoring record but still better than what we have imo) or look at a part exchange, Mbemba plus cash for Aboubakar from Porto. All within our ‘budget’ and realistic upgrades. Someone mentioned Berisha going for £7m aswell, that’s a sickener. All that said I do think Rafa must know something positive that we don’t know because he’s stil here amidst a lot of interest. Quite embarrassing that we’re being left behind by clubs like Wolves though. A year ago we won the league they’ve just won and have since finished 10th in the prem, yet they’re bidding our whole ‘budget’ pretty much on 1 player. Madness

Rafael Benitez allowed Matz Sels to join Anderlecht on a season-long loan deal last summer and the goalkeeper wants to sign for the Purple & White club on a permanent deal.

The 26-year-old has already been offered a five-year deal by the Jupiler Pro League club. Het Nieuwsblad reported Anderlecht had “negotiated” with the Magpies for the Belgium international on Monday.

The two clubs were hoping the deal could be completed before this week as Sels wanted to start training with Anderlecht from next week. There has now been a new twist in the ongoing transfer saga.

Belgium outlet Het Laatste Nieuws says Anderlecht offered €2m to Newcastle for Sels. The Premier League club laughed at their initial offer, which is fair enough, and provided a second chance to make an approach to sign the former Gent man.

In their second offer, Anderlecht made a bid of €2m plus bonuses. This did not go down well with the Tyneside club.

Sels is “deeply disappointed” with the Belgian club’s negotiating tactics and is now questioning if Anderlecht wants to make “extra effort” to him this summer.

I’ll take a different perspective on these fixtures.
At the start of the season the so called top six will be bricking it to get off to a good start to claim what they perceive as their rightful positions knowing that loosing ground early on makes a title challenge just that more difficult if they’ve been seen to be vunerable. They can’t afford to drop points so visiting a rejuvenated Newcastle United with fire in their bellies and 52,000 let’s be having you fans won’t be too their liking.

Spurs – well Hatty Kane won’t be relishing the tackles likely to be heading in his direction.

Chelsea – could be a mixed bag of new players, possibly without Hazard and facing Kennedy on fire looking to show them what he’s about.

Arsenal – SJP gets under their skin and they’ll have a new Manager, untested players and systems.

We have Rafa, Lascalles and hopefully some powerful additions to the squad up for it on their first PL before the fans and I suspect more flags and banners than you’ve ever seem before.

Just one is needed ” True Faith”

After the opening-weekend game at Etihad Stadium away to Man City the Gunners travel to Chelsea.

New Manager Emery also has a tough start to December, with a home north London derby against Tottenham on 1 December followed by a trip to Manchester United.

Also naming that £20m price before he’s even kicked a ball at the World Cup is pure amateurish. Why not say he’s available and let clubs determine the price after he scores at the World Cup. Fulham would’ve paid that for him either way even if he scores 5 own goals.

2015 – Relegation narrowly avoided. Jonas goal!
2016 – Spurs thumped but NUFC relegated
2017 – Championship winner in dying minutes of the match
2018 – Chelsea thumped. Finished 10th, despite everything.

This season away to Fulham. I wonder what dramas lie in store.

ronaldo aarons @36 – When I first saw the fixture list I thought “oh no”! However like you said a lot of their players will have been at the WC and then normally they are allowed to go on holiday and miss a lot of their pre-season. So they might not be up to full fitness especially for the first week or two – or is that just wishful thinking?
