Newcastle United have tried to sign 20-year-old attacking Croatian midfielder Lovro Majer with a £10M offer according to a report from Calciomercato in Italy.
Sampdoria were negotiating with his club NK Lokomotiva – a Croatian club based in Zagreb – for a €8M deal with bonuses and a 20% buy-on clause for any future sale of the player.
And then enter Newcastle with a higher bid of £10M – almost €11.5M.
Newcastle’s offer also comes with bonuses depending on how the younger performs at Newcastle.
Newcastle are also giving NK Lokomotiva a 20% sell-on clause in the contract so if Newcastle sell Majer at a profit in the future Locomotiva will get 20% of that.

Here’s a piece form the Calciomercato report:
“According to what was collected exclusively by Calciomercato.it, the English club will fall back on the Croatian talent putting on the plate a double economic offer more advantageous than that of Sampdoria.”
“10 million pounds, almost 11.5 million euros for the player and €M a year for the player against the €700K proposed by blucerchiati (Sampdoria).”
The ’98 class is very tempted by the transfer to the Premier League, where he has long dreamed of playing.”
“We will see what his final decision will be, on which – it must be said – his family will also weigh heavily, especially the mother who has always pushed her for the transfer to Italy.”
It would be a coup if Newcastle can pull this one off.
Majer has one full cap for Croatia but is one their top young players coming through and it’s about time Newcastle bid for world-class younger players like Majer.
He’s been at Locomotiva for three years and has played 62 times with 18 goals in the last two seasons; last season he played 34 times with 14 goals and 5 assists.
He wants first team football next season.
