Newcastle In Aggressive Move To Sign Versatile Forward

Football Ghana are reporting that Newcastle are interested in signing 26-year-old Jordan Ayew from Swansea City.

Fulham were said to be in the lead for his signature, but now Newcastle are being aggressive in trying to sign the 46 times capped Ghana International.

His older brother Andre only signed on at Swansea from the Hammers last January.

So at the moment, both brothers are on Swansea’s books, and the Swans are now a Championship club, and both Ghanaian Internationals will want to leave south Wales this summer.

Fulham have offered £8M for Ayew, and that bid has been rejected for the Ghanaian forward who can play on either wing and as a striker.

We have never rated Jordan Ayew who scored 12 goals in 58 games for Swansea over two seasons, and before that at Aston Villa, he scored 10 goals in 58 games over a couple of seasons

Ayew is no better than Dwight Gayle who already knows the system at Newcastle.

It seems Rafa is again compelled to bring in cheaper options this summer much like he had to do last summer.

Comments welcome.

I understand that we have a limited budget again this summer (even if i don’t agree with it) but surely we’ve established that getting in bargain basement players is a waste of money (cf Manquillo and Joselu). If we only have £40m to spend i would rather see us buy 2 x £20m players who will actually improve the squad (striker and number 10 ideally) before selling Gayle for £15m to one of the better/wealthier championship sides which should give us enough to get Kenedy. Is it everything i was hoping for this summer? No, not by a long shot but it’s better than getting someone in in every position we want to but all or most of them turning out to be worse than what we’ve already got

andresneill, couldn’t agree more! no point in getting low quality to replace low quality. get a couple of young hot prospects that are good now but could be amazing and in 2-3 years time we might actually have a squad to compete with the big boys

Lots to consider in that article.

Why doesn’t the club just pay for players like everybody else, in instalments.

Cash up front isn’t doing us any great favours and then we’d have a chance of competing, it’s not like Ashleys business plan is without fault. He’s doubled the debt in less than ten years and it’s not worth mentioning how far our match day (,etc) income has fallen.

Ashley is a fraud not a saviour!

It will be very interesting if ‘Udders and Brighton manage to outspend us again this summer.

So Colback actually receives £2M a year in wages, surely he could be paid off with any transfer fee that he would fetch?

We all know how the club is run, don’t expect to much in the transfer window.

I have to agree with Ed – I don’t think Ayew is any better than Gayle so I’m surprised we are being linked with him.

andrewsneill @5 – Buying bargain players is a risk but not always a failure for every Joselu & Manquillo there is a Merino and Diame 😉

Not a bad player Jordan Ayew but not exactly the calibre of signing we need is he. He was probably Swansea’s best player last season but I suppose that’s no great achievement given their squad. I actually do think he’d be a decent signing but surely we need to be aiming higher.

Also the links to Jorgenson again are quite disturbing, he doesn’t look any better than big Joselu that lad and if anything slower and lazy.

If Balotelli wasn’t such an asscrack of a bloke I’d love to see him at the toon on a free but Rafa would have him in a headlock on the first Day of training like Mancini did
