News today about Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend and we know that Newcastle have already enquired about the former Newcastle winger and were told he would cost at least £20M.
The Chronicle are now reporting that Palace manager Roy Hodgson is prepared to sell the 26-year-old this summer to help fund new players coming into the club.
Powerful winger Michail Antonio of West Ham is reported to be a likely replacement for Townsend at Palace.
Townsend is highly rated by Rafa Benitez who got the very best out of the 13 times capped England winger when he was at Newcastle for six months back in 2016 when we were relegated.
Andros Townsend with Rafa Benitez two years ago
The key to this deal is Newcastle get a reasonable price on Townsend, but it seems the player would be willing to join Newcastle again.
And even though he left us after our relegation and in our moment of need, Andros would be welcomed back by moist Newcastle fans.
He left on excellent terms with manager Benitez.
Rafa has kept in touch with Andros since he left and the working relationship between the two is an excellent one.
And Rafa understood why Andros wanted to leave Tyneside and he was even sympathetic with the player – although he wanted him to stay at Newcastle and help us get out of the Championship.
The key here is the transfer fee, and if we can get him for less than £20M, it could be a decent acquisition this summer.
Andros scored 4 goals in 13 appearances for Newcastle in early 2016, and he would fit in quickly if he returned to the club

Will there be another new signing at Arsenal today? Lucas Torreira left Sampdoria for 30m euros yesterday.
Last week we revealed that Arsenal offered to pay 30m euros in installments instead of meeting the 25m euro release clause all at once.
WHY CAN’T WE JUST PAY INSTALLMENTS FOR PLAYERS??!

Comment #2Wolves look like they are going to play in
the PL with a completely new-look squad
They have got rid of 16 players !!!
Just 4 replacements so far.
LCBP
Paying for players up front and amortising the fee and wages
for the period of the contract
is much better for the club’s long term tax position

Comment #3£20m for Townsend is good value in todays market. He is a good player, still has a good few years left in him and is English which is always a perk. Rafa knows how he plays and he will slot straight back into the club with little risk for £20m in todays market, thats a no brainer

Comment #4He has played a different form of football since leaving us like a rat deserting a sinking ship. What’s to say he has still got the edge that he discovered while at Newcastle ?

Comment #5Rumours about Townsend are nothing new. Why would Hodgson sell Townsend and bring in Antonio ? If Antonio’s deemed to be better then Townsend why don’t we sign him or is he another Lundun boy who gets vertigo outside the protective fence of the M25 ?
If Townsend and Kennedy are available and both at £20m then surely the future is Kennedy or does Rafa want time served players rather than apprentices ?

Comment #7Not sure what coatsey17 means but it’s probably best I don’t know. Sounds sexist on the surface.
My proposal is to stop bad-mouthing Benitez and trust him, as an international legend, to do what is best for the Mags.
