Reports are coming out of Portugal that Rafa Benitez is interested in 23-year-old Benfica goalkeeper Bruno Varela.
It does seem like Rafa wants another top goalkeeper in the squad to challenge recently signed Slovakian International Martin Dubravka.
Varela has been at his hometown club since 2006 and left two years ago for Vitória Setubal on a permanent deal but returned to Benfica last summer.

The Record is reporting that Newcastle are monitoring the 6ft 3ins goalkeeper’s situation.
He has not played many times for the Benfica first team – 35 games in all – and would presumably want the opportunity of first-team football elsewhere.
Varela has represented Portugal at all youth levels through U23 and would presumably not be very expensive.

I thought we done ok against Africas highest ranked nation and Portugal and Spains labours against poor opposition put our result in to perspective. There’s no denying we went flat in the second half but we were playing a team more than used to those kind of temperatures, we are also the youngest side in the tournament and when decisions like the Harry Kane ones go against you it’s easy for nerves to settle in. I think it was a good results deserved from continually plugging away.
