News today that former Newcastle left-back Jose Enrique has undergone a nine-hour operation to remain a brain tumor.
Jose had the surgery back in Spain last week in Valencia although he was in England meeting with former Newcastle boss Chris Hughton when he first felt ill with the effects of the tumor.
Enrique is now an agent and he was meeting with Brighton manager Chris Hughton a month ago when he knew something was wrong.
Jose has a chordoma which is a rare type of cancer that occurs in the bones of the skull and there are treatments for it.
Cures are possible with this type of cancer so there’s some good news for Jose.
Jose Enrique recovering in hospital with help from his partner
Here are some comments from the Mirror from Jose’s Instagram account in which Jose talks about the last several weeks being the hardest of his life:
“Sorry I haven’t been around much, it has been the toughest few weeks of my life,”
“Within the space of one month I have found out the news that I have a rare brain tumor and had surgery to have it removed.”
“I am now in recovery and so thankful.”
“Life is too precious.”
Well, Jose is right there – life is too precious.
The former Newcastle star will now undergo 35 sessions of radiation to try to ensure the cancer has not spread.
Jose was at Newcastle for four years from 2007 and he played 129 games for Newcastle with one goal and 11 assists.
We wish Jose all the very best in his recovery.
