Newcastle Target May Stay At Chelsea For Next Season

Ruben Loftus-Cheek played for England today in their 6-1 beating of Panama to qualify for the knockout rounds of the tournament.

Harry Kane got a hat-trick (two penalties) and John Stones got a brace with Jesse Lingard scoring with a tremendous shot in the first half.

It was 5-0 at the half and England were 6-0 up after 62 minutes but couldn’t keep a clean sheet as Baloy got a consolation goal for Panama with 12 minutes to play.

That leaves Belgium and England with identical records in Group G so not sure who wins if we draw with Belgium on Thursday.

Loftus-Cheek had another good game and it may be that Chelsea keep him at Stamford Bridge for next season.

Loftus-Cheek talks to England manager Gareth Southgate during Tunisia game

But it could still be difficult for him to get a lot of playing times especially if Chelsea bring in a lot of new players this summer.

That seems likely if former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri takes the Chelsea manager job which is now almost certain.

Loftus Cheek was on loan at Crystal Palace last season and manager Roy Hodgson would love to have him back again for next season but thinks he may be good enough to stay at Chelsea.

This is what Hodgson has said in the Mail about the 22-year-old England midfielder:

“If they decide to loan him out again we will be first in line with the begging bowl.

“But right now there is no intimation that they are thinking of doing that. We’ve made it clear to them and to Ruben that we would love to work with him again.

“It will be a long shot I fear because I think he’s so good, and I think he may show that in this World Cup. He will go back to Chelsea and they will be very happy with what they have got.”

Rafa has wanted the young playmaker at Newcastle for 18 months now so we’ll have to wait to see if he can be successful in getting him at St. James’ Park for next season.

But it will be tough for Rafa to do that and a loan deal for Kenedy is top of the list of Chelsea players with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Kasey Palmer next in line in the loan stakes.

What would be the best of both worlds is if we can sign Kenedy permanently and get Loftus-Cheek in on loan for the season with an option to buy next summer.

Now that would be really good – but unlikely to happen.

🙁

That Rodriguez for Panama looked like he could be a bit of an off the radar type player you hope to find at a world cup… Panama were crap like, but he stood out for me… I’ll watch him closely

Also with Southgate, whether you like him or not (I think he’s a no-personality dweeb type), he’s the fulcrum around the FA’s recent strategy based at St George’s Park. He’s largely responsible for designing the blueprint around which the whole England coaching set-up is based.

He’s taken the England youth to various different age-group titles including multiple World Cups and has instigated a resurgence in the national senior team which has led us to qualification to the knockout stages of the world cup with a game to spare.

The way he’s done that is by ditching various senior squad players in favour of young, energetic, talented players who he’s worked with for years and who his coaches have encouraged to play in a certain way. now they’ve progressed to the senior team, they find they’re working with coaches that they trust and with players they’ve grown up with. They also happen to be playing in the same system they’re used to playing in.

As with all blueprints, there is not much room for improvisation. it’s about setting a plan then bringing the elements together to make that plan work. This means there is no room for players who don’t fit that plan and can’t be relied on to make it work, such as wor JonJo.

Should there be a plan ‘B’? probably, yes, but the FA have set a target of winning the senior World Cup by 2022, not by 2018.That makes this tournament a dry-run for the main event in four years. We should see this as a proof of concept, get the main idea set in stone and we can then work on the Plan B oer the next 4 years.

At least, this is how I would do it.

At the very least, we’ve had multiple England managers who have had no clear idea of the best team, the best squad, the best way forward and have definitely not been backed by the FA to deliver a long-term plan. Finally, we have a manager who seems to have all of these things in mind and has the authority and the respect of the players to make this happen.

This is my final point on Southgate. No matter what I think of him or anyone else outside the England set-up, the players respond to him. Is that not sufficient for us all?

getoutofworeclub, some of us try to engage in intelligent and cogent debate, others don’t bother. I wish you would because in you stream of nonsense, there are probably some sensible points. I just can’t be arsed to go through them, translate them and process them sufficiently to understand you.

That said, your moniker probably tells us all we need to know.

Sorry for being sniffy, but it’s been a good day and your attitude stinks.

According to Columbian immigration around 11K fans have travelled to Russia, there looks to be more than 30K in there tonight viciously booing Poland every time they get the ball, yet Itv insist on calling them Columbian fans?

Currently watching Poland v Colombia – most entertaining game – cut and thrust/ no quarter given, players actually . taking on others players. Good stuff to watch/ entertaining. Mile away from some of the mechanical/ slide rule football played these days. That badly right fullback for Poland has a red cars in him.

Jail, another point on the ‘fans’ at the England match was that 3/4 of the stadium seemed to be filled with fans wearing the red of Panama. I wonder if the Russian authorities are handing out shirts to the locals as they file into the stadium, because for certain Panama could not possibly have got hold of that many more tickets than the English FA

Considering Panama is one of the poorest countries in the Americas I very much doubt there are more than 10K in Russia.

“We’re as good as anyone” ! Ffs we beat Tunisia with a last minute goal and Panama who Sunderland would hammer. I would love to be positive but I fear we’ve had our last win this World Cup! The reason; no quality in midfield! Also Stones and Walker centre defence eill get murdered by top teams!

moony, you may be right, we could get murdered in the next game against Belgium, or we could get murdered in the first knock-out round.

When did we last get murdered by anyone, just out of interest? Was it when we played Italy and drew 1-1? Or when we played Holland and won 1-0? When we played Germany and drew 0-0? Surely not when we drew 0-0 with Brazil?

Ah yes, we got murdered by France this time last year when we lost 3-2 away. That was the last time we were beaten (sorry, murdered)

Jail, I’m sure the Columbian sections of the crowd are filled with Columbians (possibly a few hundred of them?), it’s the rest of the ground that is filled with Russians in Columbia shirts with an anti-poland bias (or Russians in Panama shirts with an anti-England bias) that are making the noise.

By the end of the England match, all you could hear was the Barmy Army mind…

I’ve enjoyed this game, I always enjoy watching columbia. First time I’ve seen yerry Mina but he looks a very good defensive prospect. Just read he’s supposed to be leaving Barca this summer, not expensive either or even on loan. Cuadrado I always say Chelsea didn’t give him much opportunity, such a good player. Juan Quintero though, I think was fantastic again and is the type of attacking midfielder we are looking for. Looked very good before being subbed.
