HITC are reporting there’s an article in the Sun that Newcastle and Bournemouth are in discussions to swap winger Matt Ritchie for striker Joshua King.
The deal would be to swap the players with money going to Bournemouth to complete the transfer.
This would help solve one of Newcastle most significant problems and get in a good Premier League class striker to the club.
But Matt Ritchie has also been one of our top players over the last two seasons.
King is not happy at the Cherries after he was moved to less of a striker role last season, and he scored only 9 goals in 34 appearances.
Joshua King – in action for Bournemouth
The previous season when he was up front as an out-and-out striker he scored 16 goals in 36 appearances.
This deal shows just how Rafa is strapped for cash; the best solution would be to get King in permanently via a cash deal or get him on loan with an option to buy for next season.
But it seems Rafa may be forced to lose one of our better (and very popular) players to fill a gap in the Newcastle lineup.
This is all assuming the report is true – and it may not have much validity – and it is a Sunday.
🙂
But we badly need a recognized Premier League striker at Newcastle and King can do the job.
But we don’t want to lose Matt Ritchie either.
King started his career at Manchester United and moved to Blackburn in 2013 and then signed for Bournemouth three years ago.
He has played 105 times for the Cherries with 32 goals and 9 assists,
What do you think?

Comment #2Anything but just get a striker in! Being optimistic this might mean we are going after either Kenedy or Townsend as well!
Eternally optimistic !

Comment #6Given the opportunity, Mitro either failed to convert chances or looked likely to be sent off. He may love the Toon (apparently), but that doesn’t mean he’d ever be as successful a striker here as he could be elsewhere.
However, to sell for a mediocre amount in today’s market would be stupid.
I fully expect a similar deal to Sissoko, silly money for him if he scores again and Serbia progress. £20m before the world cup, £50m+ after.
And Cashley to trouser £40m of it.

Comment #7And for this story, Why would Rafa be so desperate to bring in a winger but sell Ritchie, who on his Day can be an excellent player. Josh King is decent but that’s all he is really, decent. It’s like selling Shelvey to bring in someone like Luke Shaw, not happening imo and if it does then we really are more of a mess of a club than any of us could imagine

I think he would be useful too but feel he is still a little raw. Would have flopped under a previous manager but under Rafa he could flourish.

Comment #11Hate to tell Mitro or his Agent or the Lundun rags but “ we have a deal for Mitro to join Fulham, but there’s no fee agreed” is not a deal without a fee and a contract.
It’s called wishful thinking.
Might as well get Noel Edmonds to take over from Charnley , “ Deal or no deal “

Comment #12Talking of Noel Edmonds…who comes up with the guff about swapping Richie for King.
That’s more “Swap Shop” than football news.
Gawd knows what the next pile of dross will be that the press think up.

Comment #15Finishing 10th was a great achievement last season especially for a newly promoted team.
Next season once again under MA survival will be our main priority, I’m sure new players will arrive just hope we spend wisely.
