The Mirror is reporting on their live blog today (reporter David Anderson) that Newcastle are interested in signing one of Japan’s World Cup squad.
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez returned to Newcastle yesterday for a vitally important meeting on transfers at St. James’ Park.
The Newcastle manager is said to be interested in 25-year-old striker Yoshinori Muto.
Muto has been playing for Mainz in the Bundesliga for the last three seasons, and in that time he’s played 72 times with 23 goals and 11 assists for the German club.
Before that, he was at his hometown club FC Tokyo where he played 61 games with 26 goals and 5 assists over a couple of seasons.
25-year-old Mainz striker Yoshinori Muto
Muto stands about 5ft 10ins tall and is said to be valued at around £14M by his German club, and that’s a fee Newcastle should be able to afford for a striker we desperately need for next season.
Rafa has restricted funds once again this summer – at least until we sell some players like Aleksandar Mitrovic, Mat Sels and Chancel Mbemba – who could bring some money into Newcastle’s coffers.
But we’d still be surprised if Newcastle pay £20M or more for any one player this summer since Rafa wants at least six new players brought into the Newcastle squad this summer.
If Rafa Benitez rates the player, then that’s fine and Muto’s stats in Germany, which is a physical league like the Premier League, look reasonable.
Muto has yet to play for Japan in these World Cup Finals in Russia.

I can’t believe I spelt Cathar incorrectly, anyway he was a modern version of a troubadour they are continuing the tradition in much the same way as modern Druids.

I’ll wait until the end of the window just in case I can pick up a cheaper one or even a loan deal!

Comment #84I’m sure, with Rafa’s attention to detail he would have his targets at the end of last season. Who knows what’s going on behind the scenes? But we are so passionate we deserve to be kept informed. Why on earth would we bother with posting on this blog if we weren’t totally obsessed? The owner is a disgrace to be honest and anyone who supports him is deluded if they consider him our saviour!

Comment #86Quietly creeping up to Lee Chutney’s open office window. “Hello Mike? Lee Chutney here. I just wanted you to know that I’m stalling nicely on the new contract for Rafa. He generally falls asleep about 5 minutes after I start droning on about issues of tax, possible inclusion of dry cleaning fees etc. etc. Yes things are going perfectly. And I’m dragging my feet on all player movement just as you asked. What’s that Mike? Under no cirmcumstances spend any money whatsoever? Yes of course….”

Comment #93if you were to compare Serbia to Newcastle, you’d have to say we were better but they’re better in the attacking third which is funny as their star man is our third choice striker behind the mighty Joselu and Gayle.

Comment #94Strange that Jail should mention Brentford
Alan Judge the Irish mf who we were linked
with often has eventually made a good recovery
from a broken leg.
He looked good earlier in the month on tour
with Ireland in the USA
He’s really a Rafa style dynamic player

Comment #101How about you listen to what’s been said a thousand times – nothing will happen until after the money goes in?
It’s been repeated again today in the Chronicle Q&A session.
Why Ashley can’t put the money up front is the real question, but it is Ashley after all so really, nobody should be surprised. He is a dick after all.

Comment #102Mitros been poor you’d have to say.
Serbia are playing similar to newcastle & you can see that mitro gives defenders too much time to pick passes & doesn’t stretch the defense
He’s given away possession too often as well.

If the news about Rafa signing up’s proved to be true, it’ll be fantastic news – apart from anything else, he’ll have forced Ashley’s hand. We can only but wait for confirmation and if/ when it comes, I’ll be delighted to admit my forecast that he wouldn’t be offered acceptable terms, was wrong. I hope that will be the case.

Comment #117Mitro has been poor this half. Profligate in front of goal, ill disciplined in defence and petulant with the referee. Hope it’s shown a few why Rafa was reluctant to use him.
