Report – Rafa Interested In £14M Rated 25-Year-Old Japan International Striker

The Mirror is reporting on their live blog today (reporter David Anderson) that Newcastle are interested in signing one of Japan’s World Cup squad.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez returned to Newcastle yesterday for a vitally important meeting on transfers at St. James’ Park.

The Newcastle manager is said to be interested in 25-year-old striker Yoshinori Muto.

Muto has been playing for Mainz in the Bundesliga for the last three seasons, and in that time he’s played 72 times with 23 goals and 11 assists for the German club.

Before that, he was at his hometown club FC Tokyo where he played 61 games with 26 goals and 5 assists over a couple of seasons.

25-year-old Mainz striker Yoshinori Muto

Muto stands about 5ft 10ins tall and is said to be valued at around £14M by his German club, and that’s a fee Newcastle should be able to afford for a striker we desperately need for next season.

Rafa has restricted funds once again this summer – at least until we sell some players like Aleksandar Mitrovic, Mat Sels and Chancel Mbemba – who could bring some money into Newcastle’s coffers.

But we’d still be surprised if Newcastle pay £20M or more for any one player this summer since Rafa wants at least six new players brought into the Newcastle squad this summer.

If Rafa Benitez rates the player, then that’s fine and Muto’s stats in Germany, which is a physical league like the Premier League, look reasonable.

Muto has yet to play for Japan in these World Cup Finals in Russia.

Comments welcome.

Mitro been poor but the Serbia team has too, not just him. Should have scored the towering header.

Rob @ 117, exactly what I was thinking, yes the guy has lots of potential but can just be so daft and sometimes almost thug like on the pitch. As someone who sits a few down from me at the matches once said, he isn’t a footballer just a thug and trouble maker and should not be on the pitch. I thought he was a bit over the top but could sorta see where he was coming from. In my eyes, if he isn’t good enough for Raffa, he knows more than me and I go with what he thinks

If Mitro didn’t go to ground Brazil wouldn’t have scored their second goal. You don’t try to win a foul when defending a corner at the front post. His miss from the stooping header was worse than his high leap in my opinion

You can pick mitro for the second goal but you have to leave fault at matic too for not picking the player up. I think the stooping the header was more reactionary than anything, on your day it’ll go in. The towering header he should have scored or at least directed it better.

So, assuming Micky is on the money with his Rafa contract shout this afternoon, what kind of concessions do we reckon Rafa has signed up to?

Guarantees over transfer budget with regards to percentages of club profits (would imply some insight into the budgets also)?

A director of football role created with either him or his man sitting in it to oversee transfer scouting activity? I think he would be happy with Steve nickson in that role, for eg, if it meant Barnes didn’t have to sign off on all spend.

Updated training facilities, with guarantees of timelines for their installation?

Which of these would be his priorities and which would Ashley be most willing to concede?

What do others think would be on Rafa’s contract shopping list?

I love how springy asks us why we’re talking about Rafa signing and we all start shuffling nervously and looking at our feet…

‘erm, well, Micky said it, he got it from a mate but he did say it sounded reliable. Erm, he did say take it with a big pinch of salt…..’

    😉

It’s not nailed on Springy, but we’re all clinging to it like our lives depend on it, which, quite frankly, could be the case. It does rather seem to fit certain circumstances also.

    DaveD,
Not being funny but how on earth would somebody living in Dubai be privy to that kind of information, just a pure stab in the dark to get a bit of attention and look very smart if it pulls off, well that’s what I got told if it doesn’t. Pfft I won’t pass on info again then.

Presumably you came across the Cathar-like busker in Languedoc? My good lady visited the area a few years ago and the modern day troubadours were there aplenty.

So no Germany, Italy, Holland….this is weird isn’t it? What’s the money on South Korea winning it? 🙂

I like Mitrovic but tonight did show why Rafa would maybe be looking elsewhere for his main striker!

The play is kind of limited when you play the better teams with fast defenders as if they cut off the crosses he can’t get in behind and is pretty ineffective ! Would be good against teams who park the bus as a battering ram but his lack of pace and movement mean you can’t do a simple ball over the top either!

Muto looks like the kind of striker who would do well in our system under Rafa he is the right age and experience as well 25 is probably the right age to play for someone at Newcastle !

Was hoping to have a chat with Jesper about the World Cup. He must be suffering from his visit to the dentist who incidentally is a female dentist on his insistence. He finds a lot of respite in a woman telling him to open his mouth as opposed to continually being told to shut it.
