Here’s Why Rafa Seems In A Reasonable Position With Transfer Funds Available

News today that Rafa Benitez has been discussing in detail with Lee Charnley exactly how much money is available this summer in the transfer market.

It will be complicated because Rafa will need to sell players to fund incoming players.

But that’s not as easy as it sounds because most clubs when they buy a player pay the transfer fee over several years and often over the length of the player’s contract.

So that money will not be instantly available to Rafa – but our assumption is that he can still spend that much.

So if we get £20M for Aleksandar Mitrovic Rafa can spend that £20M – and maybe we pay for that over a number of years and give out a lot of five years deals?

Rafa Benitez – happy after we took Chelsea apart 3-0 in last game

Rafa was hoping for a budget that would help him compete with the top clubs, but that isn’t going to happen – not this summer anyway.

The other complication in these transfer windows is at which stage of the summer will some of our targets be available?

Rafa will not know exactly if Chelsea will sell Kenedy to Newcastle or whether we can sign him on loan for the season – or whether he’s simply not available.

That happened last summer when at the last moment Chelsea manager Antonio Conte decided to keep the player at Chelsea because he was unable to bring in a replacement.

If Rafa can really get £50M plus money from transfers, then that could be a reasonable amount – at least compared to all the other transfer windows Rafa has had at Newcastle.

Let’s say we get £20M for Mitrovic, £15M for Gayle and £8M for Mbemba – then that would mean Rafa has £93M to spend this summer.

And let’s add £10M we seem to be getting for Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad and that’s a total of £113M.

And since in some reports Rafa is said to get between £40M to £50M plus any transfer fees – let’s assume it’s only £40M and that makes the total £103M.

That’s still a lot of money for this summer, assuming Rafa can get some good deals done like he’s already done for star goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

It’s different and a lot better than last summer because we have players now who are both surplus to requirements, and can bring in some good money in the transfer market.

And Mike Ashley not putting money into the club seems like a red herring.

Ashley put some money in during our promotion season to see us through.

But Newcastle in the Premier League should be able to generate enough in revenues each year to be able to compete (using only the club’s money) with the vast majority of Premier League clubs in the future.

That must be the goal of any business so Ashley cannot be taken to task for not putting his own money into the club; that’s our opinion, and maybe it’s the contrary view.

One area Newcastle need to concentrate on is our commercial revenues, and that should keep increasing as long as we have Rafa Benitez at the club.

So while it’s true Newcastle need to be nimble in selling players – and that’s not a strong point of Lee Charnley and company – it’s not as dismal as has been portrayed.

What do you think?

The Korean Xavi? Really? I don’t think so. Look at his list of clubs then look at Xavi’s. No offense but let’s not get carried away.

Think it’s unfair to criticise him or the transfer right now. If at the end of the window we have spent minimal, not bought players we need in the right positions then by all means have a go. Right now though, it’s just negativity for the sake of it. Guy is on a free and is someone who was not linked at all, there could be similar deals ongoing that we are not aware of.

I’m sure shelvey has onky 2/3 assists, that doesn’t mean anything for the position they both play in.

Ed, if you’re getting your lad to do these articles can I suggest you cut out the after school soccer club and get a private maths tutor in to bring him up to SATs year 4?

    😀

It’s a hypothetical transfer so far but I think sometimes you have to speak out and say whether it’s a worthwhile transfer or not. I think this one isn’t worthwhile. Just because he doesn’t require a fee being paid doesn’t make it a good idea. Anyway realism involves more than sunny days and pink clouds. I feel it’s worth pointing out that Ashley has sold us many a pile of bollocks over the years whether it’s negative or not. Show me a good transfer and I’ll be over the moon but this isn’t it.

Its not negativity at all I’m just F@cked off with yet more squad player signings. We don’t need em..We need the first 11 strengthening first and foremost.
Would have sooner had Cabaye back on a freebie than this lad.
As of yet it’s the same old same old and no wonder Rafa is at the end of his tether with how this clubs run.

Actually JonJo had 3 assists so he’s 50% better than Ki Seung (hhe hee).

Pay a proper fee and get a good number 10 in Ashley. This is just more bollocks. Then pay even more and get a proper strikekr. Not some character on a free. But it isn’t going to happen is it? I don’t think so but I’ll wait until the end of the window. We will get a few players in but probably not good enough to take us up the table, even if Rafa stays.

See a player in his national side isn’t always a good measure of him. He is surrounded by high quality. A better picture comes from how he plays for his club side. How does Ki Seung push our starting 11? Anyway time will tell.

KSY is a decent player but underwhelming really. I don’t see him as challenging either diame and shelvey and is similar to manquillo at full back, just good for cover. His strengths are interceptions and passing for me, actually his passing range is very good. Difficult to say if he is a merino replacement as despite merino lacking a spine, he was great putting the tackles in. Would be interested to see what is wages are? Badelj is on a free and reportedly isn’t too high on wages, would be my option.

Interestingly, KSY is 29. I guess Rafa has his ‘Ki’ signing……

    This was yours, very similar:

Not a bad player for free but fail to see how this lad will touch the first 11.Really underwhelmed if I’m honest and agree ..Just another Manquilo signing

Still, if this signing means money is saved for the centre forward, number 10 and wing positions then looking back, it will be a shrewd move. Right now, yes underwhelming. Let’s see what happens now that things seem to be in motion. Who is to say this isn’t Rafa’s signing btw? We’ve had no links and nothing to go by. And if it means no sturaro then I’m all for it.

I was hoping we would bring in a proper number 10, And if so that would make this lad no more than 3rd choice at best.
    Underwhelming mate
