Ashley Holding Rafa To Ransom Before He Can Sign Kenedy – Dubious Report

The Star are reporting news from a Sun correspondent today that Newcastle have a deal all lined up to (try to) sign Chelsea’s Robert Kenedy from Chelsea, but Mike Ashley has yet to give the go ahead.

Mike Ashley was reported to have told Rafa previously this summer that he must sign his new contract before he reveals to him the transfer funds he will have available this summer.

So Rafa signs and the owner tells him he has £20M to spend this summer?

Rafa Benitez – held to ransom?

And now the news is that he will only sanction the deal for Kenedy if Rafa signs a new deal first.

We cannot help but think this is a Sunday morning story since it makes little sense  – and it’s sensational.

Sun reporter Alan Nixon on his personal Twitter account is saying Ashley wants Rafa to sign his new contract before he gets the transfer money he can spend this summer.

So how did he bring in Ki Sung-yueng on Friday because we all know that free transfers these days are no longer free?

The report is not only that Rafa will not sanction the deal for Kenedy, but he will not give Rafa the money to spend this summer until he signs a new contract at Newcastle.

We just don’t believe this is true.

If it is true, it means we cannot be negotiating with any club in good faith if Mike Ashley will not cough up the money once a deal is agreed.

The other way to look at it – if it is true then Rafa could walk.

Yes – it ‘s a Sunday – just checked the calendar in case I have died and ended up in hell.

Comments welcome.

    Afternoon mate
Has any one Thought we may not be selling Riche IF we are in for townsend!! just think of Townsend and Kennedy down the wings and then Richie as a number 10?? .. or Richie/Townsend on the wings and Kennedy as a 10? imaging that.

Last season when we played Palace at home, Townsend looked a lot more threat going forward than any of our midfield and that is how I remember his time here. Rafa got the best out of him and if he wants him back that is good enough for me

I’ve often said Ritchie should be tried in the No10 role as I think that’s more suited to him. Kenedy and Townsend on either wing would be nice but can’t see it happening at the moment can you?

Shire & Jazzy, got to agree with both of you. I’d like to see Townsend back and Kennedy but be better if we could keep Richie if he wants to stay of course. Would have cover for both wings and no 10 with the three of them

Get Townsend and Kennedy in with Richie at no 10 supplying Perez as the striker he would easily score between 10 and 15 goals if he was played with a midfield 3 like that behind him!

If we sell Ritchie and bring in Townsend, Then yeah I believe we will still go in for Kennedy on the opposite flank.
Ritchie grafts for the team and gives his all. Has developed an understanding with Yedlin down the right hand side, But I always feel he lacks that edge as an attacking asset ..And after all that’s what you want in a winger.
Townsend has that in abundance and the time he was here he worked his socks off, I can remember many games when he was by far the best player on the pitch that season and would have no hesitation on bringing him back

Do ppl think that Rafa has signed a new deal. If we are looking at Townsend so sky say for 18 million. Don’t think fat twat won’t give him the money if he hasn’t????

It would be interesting if Townsend does entertain coming back as he got some real abuse at our home game against palace last season

Wouldn’t surprise me if he has Dragon, everything so quiet then someone signed and even a free cost money to the club and the Townsend news on sky shows something probably in it. Let’s just hope Micky’s mate was right

My only problem with Ritchie is he tends to drift into the centre of the pitch at times leaving Yedlin exposed to their winger and full back. Maybe pushing him into that No10 role will suit him more.

I can’t see us selling Ritchie unless we have a better replacement coming in.

Let’s hope he does and big enough to ignore the abuse. Not many fans like Shearer and Shola get to play for the club they support, to most players it’s a job I know a very well paid one, but it’s their job and going to go where is best for them. Only time should be upset is if they call the club after leaving with a slating, otherwise let’s just enjoy having players here who give their best

I have often said on us way home from matches that Ritchie will run down the flank then cut back infield or pass back, Whereas Andros goes more direct to the by-line and puts a cross in.
For me a winger is an attack minded player and that’s where Townsend wins it for me

    @JazzyP

I think Richie’s lack of pace makes him hesitate to take on the fullback most of the ones in this league are rapid so he tends to cut inside and uses Yedlin to create the space !

Townsend and Yedlin would be 100 miles an hour attacking teams with say Kennedy on the other side it would create lots of space for Shelvey , Perez and maybe Richie moved inside….

I think that’s a frightening thought for any defence having to deal with our right flank if Townsend does resign .
I am not knocking Ritchie because he has been a good servant for nufc, But as an attack minded player and flair player which adds width as well..Andros for me pal all day long

i cant see benitez playing yedlin and an all out attacking winger like traore. balance seems to be top of rafas thinking as it should be. notice hell play attacking left wingers because dummet is defensive and he plays a defensive right winger because yedlin is attacking. i ecpect we might see a new more defensive right back come in?

    Townsend Ritchie why change
Our priority should be someone who can stick the ball in the net
    Mitrovich – jury’s out
    Gayle -.struggles in premier
    Joselu – hopeless

Him and Kennedy would give us that balance we were lacking at times last season and became too one dimensional.

    This is terrible news.
Noggin the Nogg is no more and what will happen to Tiny Clanger now ?
    RIP Peter Firmin.

Peter Firmin, the co-creator of Clangers, Bagpuss and Basil Brush, has died at the age of 89, it has been confirmed.
Mr Firmin also helped create other classic children’s shows such as Ivor the Engine and Noggin the Nog.

On Townsend as it seems the England squad has now passed him by does that mean if he does come back and Rafa “rests” him he won’t spit his dummy out and do a Merino 🙂

Of course players have to look after themselves (and most are mercenaries but not all) but choosing Crystal Palace and Pardew instead of giving it to say Christmas with Rafa in Championship after we had rescued his career. If not happening for him by then yes well go then.

If he comes like all our buys I will support him but not convinced by his attitude.
