Rafa Clearly On Mission To Sign New Players Quickly

There was a report in the Sun on Sunday  that we reported  on earlier today that suggested owner Mike Ashley will only release transfer funds to Rafa if he signs his new contract,

That seems to be a little bit unbelievable but with Ashley involved we suppose anything is possible but that’s not the way to treat an experienced and respected football manager like Rafa Benitez.

We doubt the story has much truth to it – although we’ve been wrong before.

The Chronicle is reporting Rafa had a meeting with Lee Charnley on Wednesday and there was at least one more meeting with Head of Recruitment  Steve Nickson and Newcastle officials at the meeting in London to finalize our top transfer targets – and hopefully to go after them.

Rafa Benitez – sign that target now!

With Ki Sung-yueng coming in as a free agent on Thursday that’s given some momentum to Newcastle’s transfer business, and we hope further signings will be soon.

There are reports we are talking to Palace about Andros Townsend and also talking to Chelsea about Robert Kenedy, so there seems to be a lot of action happening now that Rafa has returned to the club.

Rafa has both drive and ambition, and he will now be in constant contact with Lee Charnley about where things stand with each transfer target.

Good.

Rafa knows he cannot have another poor transfer window this summer as we did last year – and he will want to finish above 10th place this season.

Preseason training starts tomorrow, so we hope to hear directly from the manager then.

Comments welcome.

    Rolando
I too think ings is better than Gayle, injuries aside. Would Liverpool have ever gone for Gayle?

On Kenedy, hope he’s not our big signing of the summer. 12 million, ok. He’s good but not THAT good.

Hope our big signing is a CF who’ll burn the league. We is famous for our nines. This hope stands even if we keep Mitro. Will Ings be that player. You know, maybe… injuries aside.

You would think we are now the best team on this side of the draw and we could get to the final on paper. We shall have to see.

Still, oftentimes, when we buy good players from bigger teams they tend to underperform here.

We could have the next Kylian M’Bappe on our hands
    with Yannick Toure .

    He’s not 18 for another 3 months

    He’s a CF – 6’2″ – at the level he’s been playing
    in Switzerland he’s scored 31 in 39.

He couldn’t be in better hands than Rafa and his
    coaches.

The worrying thing for me is we are not making any sounds around a number 10. Vital we get one. Strikers obviously as well.

Jib, I’m very pleased to see Toure here – I can see a good partnership developing with him and Victor Fernandez.

This is Rafa’s long-term project, not expensive signings who will want to move on in a couple of seasons, but young lads who he can mould and shape to form a solid cohort and develop into a team.

It’s not that far from Ashley’s strategy, the difference being Ashley will want to sell them, Rafa won’t

Throwing a pebble in the pond, if the line that Ashley will only release transfer funds to Rafa if he signs his new contract, could it be that if, a big if, Rafa does sign up, that reported statement gives Ashley a win? He’s not seen to have capitulated to Rafa’s demands and Rafa being a true professional, wouldn’t brag if he had won the day.

Even Ashley must realise that he needs to keep Rafa onside whereas Rafa could walk into any top club.

Just a daft thought but we can but wait and see what transpires.

If those nasty Ruskies are sending a banner to fly at SJP, the Maybot’ll have the security services crawling all over it. After all, we can’t be seen as being susceptible to Russian infiltration can we?

Over priced and over rated don’t touch him
Also same old idiotic fans stating they were p@@@@@ off when he left us after relegation but if he returns well that makes it alright
Once again gormless Muppets who will have anybody back no matter what they have done in the past
To some that think otherwise I am and always will support nufc but I despair to be associated
Sometimes with brain dead fans who know sod all about the game as long as they have there precious seat in the stands

Hadn’t realised that the clubs financial year is 1st July – end of next years July. Is that correct ?
Might explain the lack of action in June and waiting for the Sky money to hit the bank.

Despite all the confidence that Real Sociedad are signing Mikel Merino from Newcastle United this summer, there are no expectations for the move to be happening very soon.
Outlet Mundo Deportivo has a story today saying the Magpies are ‘not in a hurry’ to sell the midfielder, and that’s making the process very slow.
The first reason why Newcastle have been waiting is the club’s wish to make the transfer only in July. By doing that, it’s claimed the incomings go to the 2018/19 financial year.

There’s also the matter that Newcastle have many other issues to take care of, and given that Merino’s sale is not a priority, he’s far from being the first in line.
Mundo Deportivo claims that there’s not much Real Sociedad can do. The club are said to be ready to pay the player’s €12m release clause, but unlike in Spain, where the amount is paid to La Liga, the outlet claims that in England the clubs must agree how the transaction is done.

It’s said that Newcastle are being ‘lazy’, as they could delay the documents, just for not having Merino as a priority sale for the summer.

Meanwhile, Real Sociedad remain confident that the player is signing, and are being patient about the whole process. The only matter is that he’s probably missing the first few training sessions of their preseason.

I mean, he’s pretty physical which would be good for this league.

The goalkeeping in the French league is shocking though. I personally don’t think he’s worth the €30 million that Nice want for him.

Our side of the world cup draw is decidedly weak, all we have done is beat 2 very poor sides, but will confidence kick in, if it does then we could go a long way, equally we could lose to Columbia but according to the bookies they are expecting a French v English final.

He scored as many goals as Mbappe last season playing in a much weaker team. I think Mbappes transfer fee is £166m so for me he’s worth every penny of the €30m price tag

He’s exactly what we need but we probably won’t win the race for him as we’ll probably offer £5.25p short of his valuation

£5.25p short of his valuation, hmm, chances are we will offer £5.35p and then be told he was out of our price range as we can’t compete with those mega rich championship clubs.
