The Chronicle are reporting today that Newcastle’s talks with Chelsea for Kenedy are at an “advanced stage.”
And it does seem that Newcastle have moved into another (much higher) gear to sign their transfer targets now that Rafa has returned.
Preseason training also starts today, and the World Cup has entered into the knockout stages, so some players are now available to be signed.
The Sun (Alan Nixon) are reporting that Newcastle are keen to bring Kenedy into the club but also former winger Andros Townsend.
Kenedy – would be a tremendous signing for Newcastle
It seems Andros will only come if Matt Ritchie moves on with Stoke and his former club Bournemouth interested in the player at around £15M.
Kenedy has always been a key target for the Magpies this summer, and it will be interesting to see what kind of deal we can get for him.
A permanent deal now would be the best although Rafa may try to get a loan for the season with an option to buy.
That doesn’t seem too risky because if Kenedy plays like he did earlier this year, then Newcastle will want to take up the option to buy as soon as possible.
That’s when we can also afford to pay the fee, but the lad himself seems to love it at Newcastle.
The Northern Echo report that Newcastle have already held a number of meetings with Chelsea on Kenedy and have been told he is available.
Rafa is obviously vital in these negotiations since he has many contacts at Chelsea after winning the Europa League for them when he was a caretaker manager for them in 2013.
Signing Kenedy could even happen even with the uncertainty surrounding manager Antonio Conte although their new manager Maurizio Sarri is likely to be announced this week.
As far as finances are concerned a loan move with an option to buy would be best for Newcastle, but if we can sign him for the season by any means possible – it’s a great signing for Newcastle.
He will be welcomed back to Newcastle as a returning hero.
