Newcastle defender Chancel Mbemba wants to move to Porto and play Champions League football again and it would appear to be a good career move for him.
Chancel has already agreed terms with the Portuguese Champions and already signed a four-year precontract deal and is all set to join Porto.
Newspaper O Jogo is reporting today that they think the deal will be made official soon.
Mbemba has already turned down former Belgian club Anderlecht and Turkish club Trabzonspor because he is determined to join Porto.
As seems usual with Newcastle there is a disagreement with Porto on the transfer fee for the talented defender.
23-year-old Chancel Mbemba – wants to move to Porto
But Porto want Mbemba – he is said to be a priority signing for head coach Sergio Conceicao this summer – and he is definitely surplus to requirements at Newcastle.
Rafa has hardly played him since he arrived on Tyneside so he will not be missed.
Newcastle and Porto have been talking over the last few days and Porto want to pay €7M and Newcastle want €9M.
So maybe a deal can be made for €8M and Newcastle can then move to bring new targets into the club and sell other players we don’t need.
€8M is around £7M – we paid Anderlecht about £8M for him three years ago and it seems Newcastle want their money back on him.
There are 38 days left in this transfer window and Newcastle have lots of players to sell and new players to bring in.
So there’s not a lot of time left and we know Rafa is keen to get his new players in soon – which may mean we have to sell players like Mbemba first.

Comment #42Brazilian football I normally love. I hope this lot of cheating, pathetic bunch of whining cry babies go out next round.
Neymar being the biggest culprit. I wish they’d use VAR for cheating as well. Trying to get someone sent off is cheating at its lowest grade.
Clattenburg doesn’t help either. Ref’s need to recognise cheating for what it is and start carding players. All that rolling around is a sure fire way of knowing someone isn’t hurt. Break a leg Neymar, see how many time you roll over then.
That game was ruined for me. So much drama queening I lost interest – and I love football with a passion.

Comment #46Lads – I am surprised these Sturaro rumours are still doing the rounds. I’m pretty sure that given we’ve signed Ki we won’t be going after any more centre mids – presumably we’re now covered in that area even if merino leaves. Hopefully Rafa is turning his attention to more attacking acquisitions (especially a striker).
Re Toure – I saw the photos of him at the airport but he doesn’t seem to have signed yet (unless I missed it). Could this delay mean anything or do we think it’s of no concern?
About strikers being expensive – if you think about it, how many guaranteed 10 goal a season strikers are there in the premier league – I could probably count them on two hands, and given there are twenty teams in the league and some teams have more than one it’s no surprise that they command huge prices. I think maybe the best chance we have of getting that kind of player at a small price is to bring in a few young strikers at age 17 or 18 and develop them for a couple of years and hope one of them comes good – it seems like Toure will be an attempt at that, and that is also why letting Toney and Armstrong go without giving them a chance is madness. That’s what we’ve done with Perez and he seems to be paying off – he’s obviously not exactly world class and he’s not an out and out striker but I think he will get us 10-odd goals next season, which most teams would pay 20-30m for.
Unfortunately if we are going to buy someone who is the finished product we will have to part with a lot of cash, which is why I think it might be wise for Rafa to bring in a couple of cheap strikers like Joselu and hope that maybe he can turn him into a decent player. Clearly that hasn’t happened with Joselu but I think it was worth a punt and I could see Rafa doing a similar thing again if there’s even a small chance they could come good.

Comment #47I happen to think Joselu isn’t a bad player, just not a striker. Bringing him on as a sub and he’ll do a fair enough job.

Rest assured, Jib couldn’t find his way to Brighton – he’d have to work out how to manage with two trains, two at best! In suggesting Edinburgh as being more suitable, you’re being a tad unfair on our Scottish cousins.

Comment #52This has been an excellent window for Chutney/Cashley so far. No money spent! Brilliant! Top, top striker signed (unfortunately he’s 17), and more frees on the way I’m sure! Rafa must be thrilled. That’s why he’s signed his contract extension isn’t it? He has signed hasn’t he?

Comment #54Who to believe? Reports in France say our bid for plea is ‘insufficient’ yet the chronicle remain steadfast on this ‘no bids for players’ stance.
Chronicle reported that kenedy fee set at £30m, yet more reports from down south only attribute a fee at £20+.
What to make of it all?

Comment #60Just a thought on Toure he’s 17 so as an under21 doesn’t count to our first team quota. By the time he’s actually 21 he’ll have been here more than 3 years so will count as a home grown player. Sounds like decent business.
