Newcastle Face Competition For Top Striker Target

The Chronicle are reporting that Newcastle are believed to have already had a bid rejected for in-demand Nice striker Alassane Plea.

It’s only recently we have been linked with the 25-year-old who scored 16 goals in 35 Ligue 1 games last season for Nice.

Sky Sports have recently reported that West Ham had already bid €30M for the striker and we have no idea what Newcastle’s bid was.

Fulham are also interested in the striker and the Chronicle report the bid fell short of the fee Nice are looking for.

Nice will be hoping for other bids coming in with German club Borussia Mönchengladbach also interested.

This will be a problem Newcastle will face this summer – their targets will be a lot more expensive then they had envisaged.

Some will not be worth the money – like Nicolai Mick Jorgensen from Feyenoord for £20M – and it will be tricky for Rafa to know which ones he should pay out the big bucks for.

Hopefully, we will also get some bargain buys.

We have two already in goalkeeper Martin Dubravka for £4M from Sparta Prague and free agent Ki Sung-yueng from relegated Swansea who could become an excellent player for us.

Those are two excellent additions to the squad but we need more good players coming in.

Comments welcome.

According to the Chronic, first team return to pre-season training on Friday morning.

Probably explains why it’s so quiet.

Mickey, everyone was expecting them back this week. Including the Chronicle.

This sounds like the return has been delayed somewhat, with no explanation given. Nor do I expect one.

    Curiouser and curiouser…

    Indeed Rob,

It’s all very strange, you have to wonder what’s going on, surely it has to be about Rafa – after all, he’s the one who takes training (ultimately, I know he has people working with him).

It’s the fact it was advertised as last Friday, and is now this Friday. Why the change? Was it a balls up and an accident? If so then just say so.

Micky, I dunno mate. It ties in with the report about Ritchie’s deal to Stoke being held up by him on his hols, whether he’s in your neck of the woods or not.

If some are still on hols, that also suggests that the players knew they weren’t coming back this week ahead of time, it’s not just a spur of the moment thing.

I think these rumours about us bidding for Plea come from a misunderstanding. Rafa is in plea talks with Ashley, begging him to give him some transfer money
