Newcastle have had their first bid for Nice striker Alassane Plea turned down with the Times reporting that bid to be £15M.
The good news is the Times report that Plea seems to be keen to play for Rafa at Newcastle and we have to believe the Newcastle manager has already talked with the former French U21 striker.
Now Newcastle are ready to return with an increased bid for our number one striker target, and it will be above the record we paid out for Michael Owen from Real Madrid of £17M thirteen years go.
£15M bid rejected by Nice for Alassane Plea
But there are also other clubs interested in signing Plea, and it will depend on whether Mike Ashley will back Rafa with big bucks.
A striker is the most important player we have to sign this summer.
Plea has great potential and Rafa has likely seen he can make him into a much better player at Newcastle.
It really helps that Alassane is keen to come to the club and it will be a relief to fans if Newcastle can get him in soon.
Although it could take time for the striker to adapt to the Premier League.
Then Rafa can start thinking about selling Aleksandar Mitrovic – maybe for the price he gets Plea in for?
Comments welcome.

Comment #3Why do we have to sell Mitro? Why not sell Gayle (who’s proven that he can’t score heavily at this level?) and replace him with this fella or in fact why not sell anybody? If it’s going to cost 15m-25m for him then I’m on board if Rafa is… The whole sell to buy thing is doing my head in, especially given the amount of money we’ve got in from payments now!
It’s simply inexcusable.

Salomon Rondon’s agent has been back in touch with #nufc with Rafa Benitez still feeling the #wba striker is a viable option.

Comment #6I think Rondon would be great in our team hes scored a decent return considering the way West Brom have played which is hoof it up to him and hope he scores!
He has pace , works hard off the ball, has good hold up play and can score headers which is everything we need!
Him and Perez snapping at defenders heels the whole game with Shelvey , Kennedy and Townsend supplying them with chances sounds pretty tasty to me!

Comment #7Yep I agree with that Barkel but surely feel there are others who could go ahead of them?
Listed in the 25 man squad in September 2017 who I would say will go ahead (or have already gone) are:
Gamez
Haidara
Saivet
Merino (reluctantly)
Mbemba
Aarons
Colback
1 of the keepers

Comment #10The latest from Lee Ryder.
Newcastle have not ruled out a bid for Salomon Rondon who is available for £16.5million due to a release clause in his contract.
Turkish side Besiktas have stalled in a bid to sign Rondon with the player also offered out to Stoke City in the last couple of days.
Rondon has been Benitez’s main target ever since he was told he was operating with limited funds.

Comment #11Suddenly Rondon’s agent is on the case. Nothing to do with missing the boat when Plea comes in then.

Comment #13Not a bad collection of central midfielders that. Shelvey, Stutaro, Diame and Ki Sung-Yeung. Plenty of quality and experience. You might then use Hayden as defensive cover, and let Merino go.

Comment #17Please, please, please let there be some substance to this story.
This would be a transfer that would get most Newcastle fans happy.
He seems to be a player that Newcastle could do with in their ranks.
