Stoke’s Actual Bid For Ritchie Revealed – Townsend Not Too Expensive

If Sky Sports are correct, then Andros Townsend is not that expensive and two years after we sold him to Crystal Palace for £13M Palace want £17M for him.

That would be an excellent deal for Newcastle – just a premium of £4M after two years.

And we know the England winger will be able to slot right into the way Rafa wants him to play.

Matt Ritchie – Stoke bid £11,5M for him – turned down

Here’s the tweet today from Sky Sports north-east correspondent Keith Downie on Ritchie and Townsend:

If that’s true, Newcastle haven’t turned down a bid for Ritchie from Stoke for £15M as recently reported.

But rather, it’s almost the same fee we paid for the Cherries winger two years ago.

It seems that if the Potters raised their bid to a little over £15M then Rafa could let him go.

But before Matt leaves (if he does) Rafa will also want Kenedy into Newcastle.

However, the reports are that Chelsea want £30M for the 22-year-old Brazilian, who did so well for us on loan this year.

But we seriously doubt the fee is that high – and maybe £20M is more realistic?

It would be a coup for Rafa is he can get both Kenedy and Townsend into Newcastle this summer.

If he does then it could mean the likable Matt Ritchie is on his way after an excellent two years at Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

I think Rafa would like Kennedy and Townsend at the club but the details of any deals are hardly likely to be exposed to the press at this stage. As for all the other links to the numerous possible signings , pure speculation and media lies.

I hope Belgium win tonight. Let’s keep the Belgian Spurs players out there for a bit longer and hopefully they’ll be knackered for the start of the season.

Yes Jesper , Mitro is obviously on his way so Rafa will be aware he’ll need replacing. Prolific strikers are elusive and expensive but let’s just hope he does some proper research and doesn’t make another blunder like he did with Joselu.

I asked you earlier what were your thoughts on the England / Sweden game tomorrow ?

chico ha ha – you know me too well.

Interesting thing about Rafa confirming Ki is a direct replacement for Merino is that we apparently don’t need to sell before we buy any longer, another indication of a change in club policy.

Unless, of course, the Merino deal is done and waiting to be announced.

Betsy…I missed that post it seems. I think it can be a very interesting game…a though one because Sweden is very defensive solid and overall defensive thinking…

…could cause England trouble if they don’t convert their chances.

I said the other week Rafa’s first presser would be interesting for what he didn’t say as well as what he did. I was hoping not to hear Ashley or Charnley’s names in connection with the club, and lo and behold, no mention of either of them.

Also, this was a very sanitised affair, normally Rafa throws the doors open to all the local press who can ask questions. This is a very limited, carefully worded interview via nufcTV and I think that will be that for a while.

Still a comms blackout, but that black is starting to turn grey

Townsend – so we’re expected to pay £4m more to Palace than we originally sold him for ?
Ritchie – we might be prepared to sell him to Stoke for only the same amount we paid for him ?

How about going back to school Charnley, Maths seems to be eluding you here
