Stoke’s Actual Bid For Ritchie Revealed – Townsend Not Too Expensive

If Sky Sports are correct, then Andros Townsend is not that expensive and two years after we sold him to Crystal Palace for £13M Palace want £17M for him.

That would be an excellent deal for Newcastle – just a premium of £4M after two years.

And we know the England winger will be able to slot right into the way Rafa wants him to play.

Matt Ritchie – Stoke bid £11,5M for him – turned down

Here’s the tweet today from Sky Sports north-east correspondent Keith Downie on Ritchie and Townsend:

If that’s true, Newcastle haven’t turned down a bid for Ritchie from Stoke for £15M as recently reported.

But rather, it’s almost the same fee we paid for the Cherries winger two years ago.

It seems that if the Potters raised their bid to a little over £15M then Rafa could let him go.

But before Matt leaves (if he does) Rafa will also want Kenedy into Newcastle.

However, the reports are that Chelsea want £30M for the 22-year-old Brazilian, who did so well for us on loan this year.

But we seriously doubt the fee is that high – and maybe £20M is more realistic?

It would be a coup for Rafa is he can get both Kenedy and Townsend into Newcastle this summer.

If he does then it could mean the likable Matt Ritchie is on his way after an excellent two years at Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

Well that’s one in the eye for all the idiots who rubbished Martinez. Great coach, great football. I said Belgium before the WC started and it could just happen.

Rotunda hands up I rubbished him but his Everton effort was shocking. That game could easily have ended 2-2 and after that…..??

Swansea’s reputation as an attractive side to watch
    started with him

He won the FA cup for the only time in Wigan’s history

He struggled at Everton cos they were hard up

So Stoke want Ritchie for £11m and we might listen to £15m.
Days ago it was well reported that Stoke had offered Ritchie a £4m package to join them.
    You do the maths.

Rafa won’t be that unhappy with the money Ashley makes available, he does put it back in, even if the money generated could be higher. Rafa’ll always push for more help when needed, and make a bit of a fuss when he doesn’t get it, but it’ll be primarily about the timing and nature of the spending, about who he gets to sign and when. To be honest, having come this far with us I can’t see him not sticking with us. It’s a great job for him.

Farewell Brazil, a very likeable team, Neymar’s antics notwithstanding, and I really like Marcello a lot, always have. He’s the Henri Leconte of International football, competing at the very highest level with an obvious gut on him. If he worked as hard in training as he clearly does with a knife and fork he’d be hands down the greatest wing back in the history of the game, or maybe that’s his ideal fighting weight.

Coutinho should have scored and they should have had a penalty. Don’t know what the VAR panel were looking at but it was clear cut.

Can anyone tell me what our player acquisition strategy is? We have to sell to buy, I get that. But when will the buying actually happen? Since we always underbid how will it happen? Is it going to take a smackdown from wor Rafa to loosen up the old Chutney? Harrumph…

Munster, they weren’t unlucky, their finishing was God awful. They should have had 5.

Belgium were lucky in the second half, they barely got a sniff at the Brazil goal. I thought Marcelo was great going forward, not sure about him in defence, Douglas Costa was superb and Renato Augusto is obviously just wasted in China.

And Neymar – has skill, can’t stand the guy though….

As reported elsewhere Alassane Pléa is now wanted by Tottenham in addition to Borussia Mönchengladbach, West Ham (of course) and Fulham. The interesting thing is even a Tottenham blog are reporting that Pléa wishes to play for Rafa Benítez. Smart lad! I still don’t think we should pay 30M€ for him but should raise our original offer to say 25 M €.

Will admit I was mildly miffed by the suggestion on here that Southgate is a nerd, despite it also being just as mildly amusing, but I’m pretty sure nerds don’t celebrate victories the way he did vs Colombia.
