Stoke’s Actual Bid For Ritchie Revealed – Townsend Not Too Expensive

If Sky Sports are correct, then Andros Townsend is not that expensive and two years after we sold him to Crystal Palace for £13M Palace want £17M for him.

That would be an excellent deal for Newcastle – just a premium of £4M after two years.

And we know the England winger will be able to slot right into the way Rafa wants him to play.

Matt Ritchie – Stoke bid £11,5M for him – turned down

Here’s the tweet today from Sky Sports north-east correspondent Keith Downie on Ritchie and Townsend:

If that’s true, Newcastle haven’t turned down a bid for Ritchie from Stoke for £15M as recently reported.

But rather, it’s almost the same fee we paid for the Cherries winger two years ago.

It seems that if the Potters raised their bid to a little over £15M then Rafa could let him go.

But before Matt leaves (if he does) Rafa will also want Kenedy into Newcastle.

However, the reports are that Chelsea want £30M for the 22-year-old Brazilian, who did so well for us on loan this year.

But we seriously doubt the fee is that high – and maybe £20M is more realistic?

It would be a coup for Rafa is he can get both Kenedy and Townsend into Newcastle this summer.

If he does then it could mean the likable Matt Ritchie is on his way after an excellent two years at Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

southgate was a cultured defender who used brain more than brawn. i guess in england that makes you a nerd. i guess benitez is a nerd too, studying all those stats.

To the tune of Cushy Butterfield
“He’s a big lad and a bonny lad
    And he’s from Korea
And they call him Ssi Ki Sung Yung
    We’re delighted he’s here”

    Ssi is Korean for Mr
    Ki is his family name
so Mr Ki in Korean sounds like SSeeky (long s)

Douglas Costa was their best player. So I looked him up. He wears black and white so a switch for 30+ would be easy. Then I saw which black and white that team is.

So, back to the real world. We must not sell Mitro till we have a replacement of the same or better quality. We can’t start this season with Gayle Joselu, surely. That’s just asking for trouble.

Same, but not as crucial, for Ritchie. Unless Townsend is secured 100%, don’t sell man.

Final point: we should hold on to players like Ritchie. We should try to build around our better players, otherwise we’ll constantly be stuck at the first stage of construction.

It occurs to me that the delay in contract signing
must be on the advice of Rafa’s legal folk.
He achieved 10th last season with a low scoring
    fairly ugly dour defensive side.
After the turn of the year Kenedy showed what
heights could be attained with the introduction
    of top class flair.
If they’ve made Rafa a good offer now
imagine what he could squeeze out of
Ashley in Feb if we are still in the cups
and sitting in the top 4/5

8th this season if we buy well and everton dont. Leicester will be much better this season for.not having Shakespeare… what happened to all the people slating ritchie last year? not many stood up for him if i remember right. ritchie perez and diame all finished strong, but over the course of the season youd have to say on average they were average. perez is youngish and adapting to a new role and diame had been playing in a position hes clearly not suited for so they both have excuses. btw i wasnt one of the posters slating ritchie, but i now think it could be time to cash in. 30 is over the hill for a winger and townsend would create more and score more. or traore who has the potential to be worth 80m or so.

Next season will be very similar to this season gone in my opinion. We will battle hard and be in most games competing, but we will lack first 11 quality to really be able to challenge much more than than 10th Place. You have to account for other sides strengthening quite considerably at the very least in squad depth, which is what ultimately we will have to settle for. We quite obviously don’t have the budget to really improve the first 11.

Rondon looking increasingly like our core striker target, and he’s a bang bang average prem striker. He won’t score many more than Gayle and certainly not enough to elevate us above that 8th – 10th gap. But he will help our overall squad quality level to hopefully more easily cement that 10th place.

I’m hugely worried about losing Ritchie as well, if we had the money and it was an easy upgrade then fair enough but he’s so important to our team character and battling spirit and that’s worth more to us than his ability. We won’t be able to much improve upon his ability so why risk losing that leadership quality?

cyprus, Mitro is gone, he was a bit player for us last season, and as a striker he scored a solitary goal for us in the PL last season, (against West Ham in August), quite why anyone would think that was worth keeping is deluded.

    Joselu scored 4x as many!

Respect for your position but maybe it’s also a tad delusional to equate an international striker with an unwanted CF.

I’m not campaigning for Mitro, BTW. Just saying we need a very good replacement. You’d probably agree 🙂

    Jesper,
You accuse me of spouting drivel? Yet you come on here complaining that we can’t shift dead wood who’s contracts have actually ran out and have left the club, you state that we wasted half a window chasing a player who signed for Swansea in June, you call him Tammy tap in despite having never seen him play due to your commitments in the kitchen and other household chores. It is plain for the eye to see Jesper that every time you post these days it is an out pouring of pure drivel.

Jib very interesting ‘re Carney. If I’m not mistaken he’s also soon to be the ex governor of the bank of england. Presumably if he was to take his money back to Canada he would be liable for tax so he’ll have to invest it here somewhere to avoid that

Now count what we can spend, Mitro 20, Mbemba 7, Merino 10, Sels 2, if Ritchie 15, Gayle 12 than we have 66 from sales to 70 because Colback, Saivet…now 40-50 and we have nice 110-120 millions budget…we will need fullback, cb, 2 wingers, striker and no.10…fullback I would take Mojica from Colombia, cb I would take 4 option someone like Clarke…This is 10-15 million both…Townsend 18-20, Kenedy 20, Plea 27, Rondon 16…thats 98M… and plus adds on and Ki that may be 110M plus Dúbravka 115M spend total…we will look like This
    Gk: Dúbravka, Darlow, Elliot
FB: Yedlin, new LB, Dummett, Manquillo
CB: Lascelles, Lejeune, Clarke, new CB
    CM: Shelvey, Diame, Ki, Hayden
WG/AM: Kenedy, Townsend, Perez, Murphy, Atsu
    SC/FW: Plea, Rondon, Joselu
Thats 23 man squad I think better than last season…our core stay strong and Rafa will bring players that will contribute in His system…This team can compete for 7th place with Rafa

Wow – Carney at the Toon checking the books before an international takeover. Must be top international investors for the top man to do the checking of the books.
I can only assume all the underlings at the Bank of England were not available to do this work – probably on days off – so Carney stepped in to get the job sorted.

This England match is causing havoc for many folk, not least of those getting married. Good to know that English humour is alive and well, wry smile.

“Then there is Luke Murray, a magician who is booked for one of his friend’s weddings, who said: “I have offered to make myself disappear at 3pm only to reappear at 5pm, but they won’t go for it.”

I’d add Clark and Atsu to your list toonfan and use that money to buy Dawson. I’d still like to see a number 10 brought in too. Since we’ve got Shelvey pulling the strings from deep there is less need to have a maestro in the 10 role. Someone big who can tackle would be ideal saying as the rest of our attackers are small then we won’t have to play a sh*t defensive striker. Poulsen is big and Forsberg can graft. Either of those would do if we can’t find the new Iniesta. Isn’t Carzola for Sale? He could be like Beardsley when we got promoted in the ninties.
