Report – Newcastle Turn Their Attention To This Striker – Bid Imminent

The Star are reporting that Rafa Benitez is looking to sign Salomon Rondon from West Brom via his relegation release clause of £16.5M.

Newcastle were reported close to signing Alassane Plea from Nice last week.

But they may have missed out after waiting too long to put a second bid in for him and better than the £20M that was turned down.

It looks like in the end Newcastle decided not to bother and now they may not see Plea as a viable striker option because of his high price.

When have we seen that before with the Mike Ashley ran Newcastle?

28-year-old West Brom striker Salomon Rondon

But Rafa must be getting impatient that only two players have so far been signed, and the Star report is that we are ready to trigger Rondon’s release clause of £16.5M.

That’s a decent price for a good center-forward with Premier League experience, but the Venezuelan International doesn’t score a lot of goals.

The 28-year-old is reported to be happy enough at West Brom but if Newcastle bid for him he’d probably jump at the chance to join Rafa on Tyneside and stay in the Premier League.

If we are really interested in Rondon then let’s sign him quickly – so we can move on to other targets.

Let’s not have this spread out for weeks.

Seems that every time someone behind a keyboard types that we are interested in buying a player, 20 blogs repeat it, the papers then turn this piece of fiction into absolute fact.
    So here goes …
Newcastle are in talks to sign Messi, Ronaldo and Kennedy after Cashley took a tumble, received a concussion and realised what he could actually achieve if he wasn’t such a dick.

In the absence of a decent budget (what happened to the 50mill plus sales.. It now seems to be sell Ritchie to buy a winger etc) I think this makes sense. Rafa will need to get goals out of other players but I reckon he’s good for 12 goals next year and he is prem tested. Gives us both pace and power and heading ability which the current strikers don’t. But come on Fats give the manager a few quid.

After watching lots of clips of him I really hope not, if we are just going to end up getting a striker for the sake of getting a striker because we need one, I really do think keeping Mitrovich is a far better option than wasting money on the likes of Rondon

It does seem strange that although you think our manager is a class act, you’ve spent the last two years doing your best to convince everyone what an outdated dinosaur he is, how he was disliked at his previous clubs and that is transfer record is appalling, even suggesting that riots would be seen if he was appointed in to a certain job. You tried convincing us of all this right up until your only two supporters were an unhinged trawlerman and a direct descendant of a founder member of the flat earth society.
