Newcastle Get Option To Buy Kenedy Next Summer – Couldn’t Afford Fee

There’s some great news coming from  Simon Johnson on his Twitter account.

Simon is the Evening Standard reporter for Chelsea and he says that Kenedy is on his way to Newcastle to sign on for a season-long loan tomorrow – as Sky Sports had earlier reported.

Chelsea wanted a permanent deal for their winger this summer but Newcastle couldn’t afford it.

And yes – it looks like Rafa has got a clause in there with an “option to buy” the player next summer.

A great deal for Newcastle – almost the perfect deal if cash is really short this summer.

But we wonder just how much that transfer fee is – hopefully not much more than £20M.

But it allowed for Rafa to have a full season of young Kenedy under his wing.

He’s only had shortly more than three months with the Brazilian star and look at the improvement he made in the winger’s play.

Kenedy will also have the incentive to play really well for Newcastle next season so the club buy him next summer and his career can take off on Tyneside.

Maybe we have to pay £30M for him next summer but he’s become a £60M player by then with Rafa’s guidance.

An interesting thought.

Finally – everybody involved at Newcastle deserve credit for this deal.

Comments welcome.

Happy with this. We were a different team with him and Dubravka last season. A new striker / number 10 and we’ll be in decent shape next season. Not challenging, but not worrying about bottom 3

I’d rather we got him for the year and used the money we would have spent on a striker.

If you think about it, it’s not dissimilar to buying a player over 2 or 3 years really.

Imho, we’re doing things the right way so far this window, get the freebies and loans in early so they can’t be poached ,what will really annoy me is if after selling Merino, Mitro, colback, Mbemba etc, we don’t get the decent strikers and no 10 we need, I don’t even care how much we spend, as long as they are good players who can do the business straight away.

This is the first real signing of the Summer. Ki is a replacement for Merino so was not planned long-term. Dubravka was a matter of filing paperwork and transferring funds. Kenedy has been subject to negotiation and talks with the player and Chelsea.

As such, he’s a key signing for next season’s squad. As such, he could unlock a number of other signings. The first element of a domino chain, possibly. I certainly hope that’s the way it pans out.

Rafa was a man of few words in his interview on Friday, so I was surprised he went out of his way to devote so many of those words to explaining he’s been working in Liverpool. If the Kenedy recruitment has been done over the last few days, what else has he been working on over the previous 6 weeks? I can’t wait to find out.

On the MSN news there is a list of players who are apparently on the radar of various clubs.

Including (and I had to stop myself swearing too loud at this) Lascelles to Everton, why don’t these hacks just crawl back under their stones.

Another one is Ings to Southampton, that would curtail some of Ed’s headlines if it turned out to be correct. 🙂

Chelsea have agreed to a season-long loan of Kenedy to Newcastle – who impressed last term at St James’ Park. He might not be the last Chelsea player to make the move to Tyneside…Can you loan two players from one club??

Deal is perfect for us. Get kenedy next summer if he does well this season and we can use whatever cash we do have on a CF and a 10.

Maybe add a utility defender to replace Mbemba when he goes, Dawson from WBA would be my choice as probs would be happy to be squad player back in the prem and covers CB and RB.

Here’s a possible chain. Yarmolenko to West Ham, Antonio to Palace, Townsend to Newcastle, Ritchie to Stoke. That could happen next few days I imagine – Yarmolenko joined Wet Spam at their training camp today.

i think Kenedy is going to be a top, top player. We have not yet seen the best of him and his development under Rafa will continue.

As it was my birthday yesterday I’ll happily take Kenedy signing as a late pressie from Rafa. He did say he’d announce it on my birthday but things, got a bit complicated so he couldn’t. I’ve accepted his apology so all’s good. 🙂
    Now, about that contract Rafa…

Don’t want to pi££ on anyone’s chips here but what if the option to buy is 20M? Is Mikey going to pay it, or is this just a clever ploy by Chelsea to get someone else to.pay it +loan fee?

It sounds from his tweet as though it’s a first refusal option rather than a set fee. This is a bit worrying for us as we could very quickly be priced out of a permanent transfer.

However the reality is if we can’t afford it this summer, we have to play ball with Chelsea and if this is the only way they would allow a transfer then so be it. Hopefully we make a strong enough impression on Kenedy and him likewise on us to cement an agreement with the player himself that means we are in a stronger position come the summer to get him back if it does become a bidding war.

Good signing overall though, now let’s spend some money and push on.

I could see us also getting a few players from abroad on loan like a Dubruvka kind of player try before you buy!!

Southampton have spent a lot of money on gash they are looking to get rid of their 2 record signings it shows if you don’t have the correct manager / player relationship players can fail no matter how well they have done at their previous club

Would anyone else take Antonio at £15m?

I would. 28 so in his prime, he’s a beast as well with pace and power. Was West Ham’s best player overall last couple of seasons Arnautovic aside. Not fancy enough for new look West Ham but he’s a good worker and would fit into our characteristics as a team.

jazzy, that’s a proper tease, isn’t it? We can only loan two players total and only one from a single (PL?) club so any deal for anyone else from Chelsea would have to be permanent.

Loftus Cheek is very unhappy there, but I’m not sure where we’d play him although it would be a nice problem to have. David Luiz would be great to have for a couple of seasons to pass on his experience and he’s close to Rafa. My pick would be Batshuayi. Long term target for Rafa, did well with Dortmund (7 goals in 10) last season before damaging his ankle ligaments. And it would give me an excuse to watch him smacking himself in the face with the ball vs England over and over.

“Couldn’t afford fee” the bastard has spent nothing – he spent the least of any club last season. Less than clubs with HALF our income
