TalkSport are reporting that Uruguayan international Giorgian De Arrascaeta is interesting Rafa Benitez at Newcastle.
The 24-year-old currently plays for the Cruzeiro club in Brazil.
De Arrasceata started his career playing for Defensor Sporting in the Uruguayan Primera Division and made his first-team debut back in October 2012, when he was just 17.
He plays as an attacking midfielder with a vast array of skills and scored twice for Uruguay when they finished runners-up to France at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
24-year-old Uruguayan international Giorgian De Arrascaeta
De Arrascaeta made his debut for the Uruguay senior team in a friendly match against South Korea in September of 2014 and currently has 16 caps with 2 goals.
He is reported to have a £18M release clause in his contract, and the report says that Rafa would be willing to pay that amount.
Wonder if that’s been OKd by Mike Ashley.
That’s a lot of money to pay for a player who has not been tested in the top leagues like the Premier League.
The report says that he almost joined Monaco last summer but couldn’t agree on personal terms, which is not thought to be a problem at Newcastle.
Celtic are the other club reported to be interested in the player and they could offer him Champions League football but 18M is a lot for the Scottish Premiership club to pay.
De Arrascaeta played a number of games for Uruguay in qualifying for the World Cup in Russia.
His brilliant form at club level meant that he was included in the final squad of 23 for Uruguay.
He seems exactly what Rafa said he needed this summer – players with class – and we assume he could play in the number 10 position at Newcastle.
Now the big question – can Newcastle move quickly to sign this lad up?
Probably not, but we hope so with only 24 days left in the transfer window and he would be a very popular signing with fans.
Comments welcome.

Tut tut. It’s not PC to refer to your smelly socks as black and it could be regarded as ultra un-PC to describe your black socks as smelly.
I’m assuming you’ve got more than one pair – of socks that is.

Comment #12If this is true which we will never know until we see him in a shirt standing with Rafa, I watched him in the world cup and he seems a good player. The question is if Celtic are the only other team interested why would he sign for them? Get ready Army this next three weeks is going to GROUNDHOG DAY over and over again.

Comment #13Once again it’s just getting to the point well just sign bloody somebody please, any slight Hooe this transfer window might be different has gone, all be it I had almost no hope it would be different.
I thought at one point we might sell mitrovic and Ritchie and bring in Towsend and even maybe Plea (although I didn’t think he looked great from youtube) but damn that on top of the signing we had I thought would be good for Newcastle(best we could hope), yeah show you how bad it is when if that all happened it would all just be swapping one player for another basically….fat controller barely having to spend a penny..but it’s best you can help for as a Newcastle fan

It seems that Mbappe was untried at the highest level before he was loaned to PSG by Monaco. Despite that, it’s reported that his release clause was valued at €180m. Such a figure really puts De Arrascaeta’s £18m in perspective.
The amount of money apparently available to some club’s to splash around must surely beg questions from Uefa.

Be careful or you’ll be named as one being negative and casting doubt over Ashley’s ambition for NUFC.

“Ashley’s ambition for NUFC”
Ambition is what Ashley lacks.
It’s not gone unnoticed by hacks.
If Rafa said ‘will
You spend 18 mil ?’
He’d probably sh#t in his daks.

Comment #24Lesh……….. Most of us on here hate Ashley because of his blatant disregard for our club as a Sporting Institution and his acceptance of a mediocre team as long as we stay solvent so he can advertise his Shyte .
In my opinion you hate him because he is the epitomy of the wealthy capitalist stereotype that you would hate even if he wasn’t connected to the club. Therein lies the distinction. Most NUFC fans wouldn’t give a toss how much money Ashley has and what he spends it on ,as long as it didnt hinder the club’s progress. You would.
As Belfast correctly pointed out you take every opportunity, and have done for a long time to drop in your far left political opinions which are quite obviously far more important to you than football.

Longstaff: “I’m a centre midfielder and try to get around the pitch as much as possible. I love to get forward, trying to score & create goals. Frank Lampard is someone I model my game on; I watch clips of him & try to do the same thing. Last year, at Blackpool, it worked.” #NUFC
Do rate this kid and he often gets neglected when people talk about our younger players. Goal scoring midfielders don’t come around very one and he is on. Always did see a bit of lampard in him but he doesn’t have is timed runs into the box like frank did. Tends to drift in and out of games but that will cone with games. He does have a lot going fir him though and certainly doesn’t do tap ins!

Whole situation is extremely worrying Jazzyp
It’s like a double-edged sword.
Not only are we standing still but…
Other clubs are actually strengthening significantly.
So in a way, we’re actually WEAKER than we were last season.
Fans won’t let him get away with this.

It’s doing my head in mate, the excuse last year was the TV money, it’s here now, we’ve RE established ourselves as a PL club, give the manager the tools he needs to push on. How can the fat man not see that if Rafa walks and he goes back to doing it his way we’ll be relegated within two seasons maximum, he’s obviously making that much money from us to risk it.

Comment #40Isaac Hayden has handed in a transfer request as he looks to move closer to his family. Rafa is believed to be reluctant to lose him but he understands the difficult situation that the midfielder is in.
The 23-year-old had to visit his daughter in hospital regularly in December and January when she was born, and it seems that has played a role in the player’s decision to move back down south.
Brighton & Hove Albion are said to be the early frontrunners and the Chronicle is reporting that they could offer up to £10m. Hayden was signed for just £1m from Arsenal in the summer of 2016, and it could mean a sizeable £9m profit.
It would be a great piece of business if we do sell the holding midfielder for such an amount, especially considering he wasn’t first choice for a large part of last season.
Combined with the reported €12m (£10.6m) from the sale of Mikel Merino to Real Sociedad, and that would certainly give Mikey rag tat Ashley more pennies to add to his empire.
how lucky we are to have such an illustrious owner
