Newcastle still don’t have a deal in place to take Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham this summer.
The Northern Echo are reporting today that Newcastle want £20M for their striker, but Fulham are only willing to pay £16M for him.
But the heat will be on Fulham management to sign the striker because Mitro is already a fan favorite in London after scoring 12 goals in just 20 games last season for them and helping the Craven Cottage side get promoted.
Aleksandar Mitrovic after scoring for Fulham against Derby
However, Fulham could always go off and sing another top striker, and they seem to have started to do that.
Aleksandar Mitrovic just doesn’t fit into Rafa’s planes at the club and has not been used much over the last two seasons.
Newcastle are said to be refusing to budge on their £20M price, but one thing Newcastle have to do is to become more flexible with their transfers.
The club demonstrates in every transfer window how difficult it is for them to make deals – they are not good at it and always seem to move at a snail’s pace.
The possibility is that we may not do the deal with Fulham and that would be really embarrassing.
Why not split the difference and try to agree on a £18M deal – perhaps with some bonuses depending on how Mitro performance at Fulham.
Both sides have to give a little to get a deal.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41And why is Chi Onwurah getting criticism for a minor mispronunciation, the fact that she has stood up and made her point should be good enough for Toon fans.

Comment #44Mr funky – we already have Kenedy on loan so can only loan 1 more domestically.
I am hoping we get
Bryan
Reyes (as well as schar)
2 quality strikers
And a number 10
In reality probably only get a striker on loan

Comment #51Someone could offer 50 million for mitrovic. But rafa will only sanction the sale of any player regardless of how much they offer until a replacement is lined up. He wouldn’t trust the three clowns to buy a replacement if he just agreed to the sale first.

Comment #52If we get Schär for £3.5m, Bryan for £6m and Muto (who I really rate) for £9m I would actually be very happy with that window.
We have shifted a lot of deadwood and secured the two players who transformed our team last year for another season at least (obviously Dubravka is permanent) while not losing any crucial players which has been a big problem in the pre-Rafa years under the fat

I think I pretty much answered your points by saying look at previous history.
It’s their for all to see but only if they want too.
Hopeful optimism is by no means a bad thing but when the issues are the same as previous ones then it’s called being blind to the fact.
Jam tomorrow. Or the day after. Or the day after that.
It’s been 11 long years of wait and see but if you can’t stomach the truth then by all means hide behind your theories as to why our world class manager isn’t getting backed. Again. For the 4th window.

Comment #58Whoops I pressed submit in the middle of typing – fat fingers I guess ?
Anyway continuing with my little injection of optimism –
while not losing any crucial players which has been a problem in recent years.
If we sign Schär Bryan and Muto for £18.5m, while bringing in transfer sales of £20m plus (make that £40m plus if the Mitro deal goes through) then that’s more money in the fat mans pocket – if it’s true that the TV cash has gone towards reducing the club’s debt to him then any sales profit is likely to do so to, which may not be a bad thing.
So I guess what I’m saying is if we start the season with this team (which I think Rafa could get top 10 easily and potentially even Europe)
Dubravka
Yedlin Lejeune/Schär Lascelles Bryan/Dummett
Shelvey Diame/Ki
Ritchie Perez Kenedy
Muto
while the club’s debt to Ashley has reduced, potentially reducing his asking price and making a sale more likely, there would be a fair bit to optimistic about.
It’s not all doom and gloom although what I’ve said does rely on us bringing in the three aforementioned players and us having a relatively injury-free season.

Meyer is a top player but he is only on a free because Schalke wouldn’t pay his wages so I doubt we would come anywhere close. The reason he’s not already been signed up to a top club is not even they are sure about his wages

Comment #64Rafa needs to be very careful in his standoff (alledged) with Mr Tubbs. Tubbs and his cronies are villains and apt to shaft Rafa for any made up reasons.
It is quite clear that MrTubbs has no love loss for the club, area, inhabitants of the area and supporters of the club.
If he does sell up watch out for a spiteful parting shot.

Jul 25, 2018 at 1:53 PM
Comment #66This mention of Meyer has reminded me about no 10s
In this age of Ashley induced austerity it is clear that essential signings should be prioritised and I’m not sure 10 is that much of a necessity. The good old Ayoze was banging them in in the last few games of last season – if he carries that form into this year he is more than good enough to be our 10.
Also I don’t think our creativity is that much of a problem – we created plenty of chances last year it’s just that we had a donkey up front. With a Muto or a Rondon or an Origi we would score 15 more goals than last year
So I guess my point is I wouldn’t be too disappointed if we didn’t get a 10 this summer

If that is true then that is still nearly 80,000 a week, which would be our highest wage I believe (remind me what jonjo is on? I think he is our biggest earner but I’m fairly sure his wages are closer to 60 grand) and I’m not sure Ashley would sanction such an expensive signing given he seems to calculate transfer costs including wages

I would love to get Lookman – I thought they wanted closer to £15m? He will be a top player in 5 years.
However I highly doubt the fat one would sanction such a purchase without getting a reasonably high-earning winger (probably Ritchie) off our books which would be another deal that needs to be negotiated (and another chance for Penfold to screw up) so I’m afraid I can’t see it happening.

Comment #72One day it will dawn on people on here that all the tub thumping in the world and name calling hasn’t changed a thing in last 10 years and it won’t. He will go when he is good and ready as I have continually said.
The Blog is a great place to let off steam but doesn’t interact with Ashley.
In the real world trying to contact, connect with and marshal a disparate group of people ( even with Social Media) to mount succesful sustained campaigns is far more difficult than keyboard warriors seem to grasp because of the usual banter on here.
As a simple example Jail backs ” If Rafa goes” ( no problem with that or them in principle) but then goes now?His decision entirely and I am sure after soul searching like others who ave given up ST’s
As I said a few days ago apart from (welcome) publicity what can the group hope to change – in other words who and how many will actually go and exactly when? Is it just a slogan or something tangible?
I gave up going years ago ( as did many others) when stars were regularly being sold and we generally had rubbish managers and owners, Back then there were few season ticket holders and majority paid on gates, Sky didn’t exist , no replica shirts were sold so gate receipts were very important to club. Did it change anything No! – not until Hall came along and that was still a struggle.
I have nothing against other people trying to effect change but our history ( unlike say Liverpool’s who had regulalry won the League and the European Cup) is seemingly not enough to get thousands on the streets.
All I am trying to do is bring a little reality to the rhetoric thrown relentlessly around on here and not saying organisers of protests are wrong to try.
Sports Direct as i said when Rangers were using those tactics a few years ago seems more promising an avenue to consider but the logistics and legalities involved let alone who could lead and manage such a campaign seemed impossible to overcome and still do with many willing to support but no one yet coming forward to lead and take any flak – legal or otherwise
I gave up my current ST’s last month ( personal reasons) never buy goods in SD or anything in ground, live 100 miles away so what tangible effect can I have. Simply regurgitating Ashley Out would make me no more than a repetitive sloganiser – sorry just not me
Was trying not to post as it is the same old on here and it is too dispriting when season hasn’t started and Rafa is still here (for now?)

Comment #74It’s not all gloom and doom. We are not a bad side like. Personally I have a real affection for the players we have. I don’t agree with changing the team too much as they are mainly young. I do agree with some solid back up at left back, an alternative No. 10 (I would always play Perez there as he’s just going from strength to strength) and a shoulder barging bully of a Centre forward and we are Golden. Oh, wait that’ll be Mitro. So don’t get too down. I’m not an Ashley apologist by the way. I’m an anti massive money man. Spoiling our game and all the fun. I’m Welsh too so I know all about, ‘What goes around; Comes around’. I love Newcastle United and couldn’t care if they win or lose. As long as it’s a good game. That Japanese lad looks like he could be exciting, I hope we get him and that viking defender too.

Comment #75SredniVashtar, I think £15m is what RBL have offered for him, but that was point blanked declined by Everton I believe. If Stoke still want Ritchie for £15m and we could broker a deal with Everton that would be a brilliant move for now and future!

Open invite mate! ha ha
Looking back at some of our games it was unbelievable some of the chances we missed Richie , Shelvey , Perez and Kennedy were guilty of missing good chances as well mind you but Gayle and Joselu were the worst offenders
Shelvey picking Motu out with that lovely cross field pass between the two centre halfs would be exciting though

That seems pretty optimistic – they clearly haven’t dealt with old Lee before and aren’t aware of his ability to screw up almost any deal at any stage. Hopefully if 20m comes in for Mitro that will free up the wage space to make a swooping 4 million bid for Bayshuayi that we “just couldn’t get over the line”
