Rafa Benitez had said there were pending deals both in and out after the 2-2 draw in a friendly game against Hull City on Tuesday night.
Earlier today it was announced that Swiss International center-back Fabian Schar had joined us for a bargain £3M.
And it has also been announced that goalkeeper Matz Sels has been transferred to French League side Strasbourg in a £4M move.
It looks like a good move for the 26-year-old goalkeeper after a two-year stint on Tyneside – where he spent last season playing on loan at Anderlecht.
Sels made only 14 appearances for Newcastle and it turned out to be a disappointing move for the Belgian goalkeeper.
Matz Sels – off to Strasbourg
We wish Matz all the best for his football future.
And here is the latest transfer table with maybe striker Yoshinori Muto soon to join us from Mainz.
Currently, we are making a profit of £12M this summer.

Comment #4I see some idiot has put an entry on Wikipedia to the effect that Muto plays for NUFC. Also contained within the entry is the following sentence :- “He is also set to Marry David Fraser[11]”.
Clearly a most distasteful entry – but upon examining the grammar we see that the word Marry is used instead of the correct non capitalised “marry”. Clearly the poor use of grammar must originate from the Wearside area.
Mackem snipers can be outed even on the blog.
Shows the importance of Toon supporters using the correct grammar.

Comment #5Im excited by Schär, he was very much sought after in his early days at Basel and I believe he turned down more lucrative clubs than Hoffenheim as he wanted to play and continue developing, he moved onto Depor for just under 3m I believe and they pretty much made Newcastle look almost professional with the shit storm that surrounded them last season and in all honesty he didn’t look or sound like he settled there at all. He is excellent value for 3.5m and a well rounded player, reads the game well and he’s more a ball playing centre half, very similar to Lejeune… But he has pace… He’s very quick across the ground which will compliment Lascelles. I think he will compete with Lejeune for the other centre half spot beside lascelles (with a caveat of if he settles well, which is what hindered him at Depor). Form is temporary, class is permanent and in my opinion this lad has class!
Muto is an unknown quantity for me, he seems very similar to Perez but with more strength, I think he will paly the 10 as his runs are very intelligent by the sounds/looks of things and is very energetic. I’m thinking he could be our very own Okazaki who is a player I very much think is underated as he has more impact off the ball with his energy, pressing and runs.
A LB for back up and to develop further (Bryans) and a *guaranteed* goal getter and I’ll be happy enough given the circumstances!

I was talking to Jinky (Jimmy Smith) in the Junction (Haymarket)
yesterday.
We were talking about lots of stuff (we go back a long way)
He reckons Rafa is going to sign a contract before the first
game of the season.

Comment #8Lascelles re Muto – if we do sign him I hope that his natural instinct to get to the oppositions goal at speed is not curbed by any tactics.
Be nice to see opposition defenders on the back foot for once – should get the crowd going.

Comment #9Now Charnley needs to get rid of Aarons (Man, what happened to him?) and Hayden (Showing the field sense of Colbeck). Gayle likely needs a new home, too. Must grab the $ for Mitro or his value will fall if he doers not play as a regular during the season.
NUFC could use some cover at fullback, and I would not be surprised to see a proven vet come in rather than chancing a player from lower leagues.
