26-year-old Fabian Schar says when he first talked to Rafa Benitez about coming to Newcastle it was not a long talk.
Fabian pretty much decided instantly that he wanted to come to play for Newcastle under the coaching of the world-class Rafa Benitez.
We have to remember what a draw Rafa is for ambitious players who want to get better, and they know Rafa can get the very best out of them.
That’s one reason Dwight Gayle wants to stay at Newcastle – he’s happy in the area and his improvement this year as a footballer, even though he didn’t score the goals for us, was there for all to see.
We hope Dwight stays for next season.
Fabian Schar – in action against Porto
Fabian Schar remembers all about Alan Shearer and Newcastle United in the 1990s, and he seems delighted to have joined the club – and we got him for an absolute steal at just £3M from Spanish club Deportivo – who were relegated last season.
This is what Schar has told the Chronicle:
“I think the Premier League is the best league in the world.”
“I am really happy to get this opportunity to play against the best players and best teams. But of course, I played in Spain last year with Barcelona and Real Madrid.”
“So I think I know how to play against the big names. I also have experience when I played with Basel against English clubs so it’s good for me.”
“The Premier League was the most important league for me to watch growing up. I liked the football and the stadiums and fans.”
“Now I get the chance to play and be part of it. I remember Alan Shearer being a legend at the club and he’s still classed as a big idol.”
“The stadium is fantastic. I played in 2012 with Switzerland at the Olympics.”
“It’s not the same as playing in front of the home fans so I am looking forward to my debut.”
“It wasn’t long (his talk with Rafa Benitez before he signed), pretty much an instant decision.”
“After being contacted by the coach I had a really good feeling and it was clear I wanted to come here and join the club. The only focus was to come to Newcastle.”
“He is a top coach and I can learn a lot from him. I can learn a lot from the Premier League and English football in general.”
“There’s a lot to do. First I need to get settled and see how it all works.” “I have some experience already but I am looking to improve as a player here. I want to help this team.”
“It’s not that I’m not a typical defender because I know I have to defend for the team.”
“I’ll do anything if it means putting a zero on the scoreline in favor of Newcastle. What I can also do is help the team by showing my qualities.”
“I can also bring good passing and long balls to the game as it has been my strengths throughout my career. I’ll keep that up and help this team.”
“Now I am focused and looking forward to new things here and a new season.”
It looks like Fabian may get a start tonight at Braga, and he may be being fast-tracked by Rafa to start the first game alongside captain Jamaal Lascelles against Spurs a week on Saturday.
It’s either Fabian or Ciaran Clark who has already said he wants to become a first-team regular again this season.
That’s good competition in central defense, and it’s going to be interesting to see just how quickly Fabian Schar can settle in at Newcastle.
We hope it’s very quickly for the sake of the team.
This player seems to have what it takes to become a big success at Newcastle.

Evening mate. That has been exactly my point that Ashley will always win because he knows he has complete adulation from fans attending games no matter what division Ashley could potentially take us down to. And yes that is there choice and I respect that as they should of those that try and effect change…As many are this season

Come on, man. I’ve read back a few articles worth of comments, and you are coming across as bitter and spiteful. I have read the comments directed at you, and as an onlooker I am only seeing aggression on your part. Surely you are better than that? Jail has very good reasons for giving up his ST, why should he pay for a full season of games when he can only make 10, especially while the club is being badly screwed over by Mash. You are being utterly unfair to everyone who has strong principles on Ashley’s mis treatment of NUFC. None of them are saying you shouldn’t go, so why take it so personally?

Haha, keep it sweetheart.
Saying you like your research so much, I’d love to see how many posters have suggested you give up your season ticket, I’m sure others on the blog would like this also.
Crack on lad, get us some evidence for your sad rants.

Too tight to pay for a stream, I said for years before it went free I’d gladly pay x amount to listen to BBC Newcastle when not in the NE you gobshite, you just keep ranting away making up shit that suits your argument. Why didn’t you get involved with the fans groups to put your letter across, it’s because it doesn’t suit you ideal as a superfan.

Yeah, I just think that times are now desperate. If Ashley hears that fans are coming up with all sorts of different ways to get the point across surely it has to have some effect.
On the other hand if ashley knew fans were squabbling over different ways to have a go at him, he’d be laughing into his next pie

yeah I agree that as said before Ashley has won again because he knows no change will come as it has always been a minority. But that minority is changing to a majority now, You only have to look at tickets still available in all parts of the ground to see that.
Sir Bobby must be turning in his grave seeing what’s happening with the club

It is all just so sad. Even as a Rugby fan, I know that the very identity if the people up here and those who have moved away is hugely governed by NUFC. Even people who don’t really like football would accept that we deserve a club to be proud of again. We can’t really claim that at the moment.

Comment #92Getting fcuking ridiculous on here now. We’ve got plastic fans, wannabes and all sorts of names thrown about at people chanting for change. we all want the same thing and that’s to be rid of the fat tw@t. Whether you go to games or don’t or have a ST or not or whatever. Should be uniting to rid this cancer from our club.
Like a playground ffs. Supposed to be grown adults. This blog is to discuss and debate things from fans all over the globe. Not ram your opinion down someone’s throat and call them for not doing what your doing.

Comment #105I think we’re going to have to agree to disagree about Trump Bobby. He is the lowest form of white trash imaginable. Spouting nonsense on a daily basis. Mexicans are drug dealers and killers? There are good as well as bad white supremacists? The truth fwill come out once Mueller is finished. You’re spouting the same nonsense as the other Trump supporters who don’t care about facts or the truth. Trump is a fascist and a racist plain and simple old son. I hope you aren’t. Check out that US national debt and deficit by the way to see which way that sad country is headed.

Comment #106Thanks for the links guys.
We look pretty weak in attack. Not one of our players runs at them with purpose. We just seem to pass pass pass until either we create a chance for ouselves or we misplace a pass and create a chance for them. We seriously lack creativity! The same issue we’ve had for years. Needs sorting ASAP and I seriously doubt it will be sorted in a little over a week.

Ashley specialises in brands and retailers that have gone bust. Even though he’s got some of his money invested in HofF and Debenhams he’ll want it back with interest so with the Chinese backers pulling out of saving HofF he’s just waiting for the receivers to be called in and then to pick up the remnants for a pittance. What’s in it for him ? Who knows but a good guess would be property and lots of it. Sports Direct invested £140milion in property last year which could be a clue. As the high street and departments stores appear to be history what he does with it remains to be seen but student flats seems like a good bet.
Why can’t get I images of Fagin from Oliver out of my head……

Comment #111I should correct that statement. Trump said some Mexicans might also be good people. Hahahahaha. Some Mexicans? But most are pimps, drug dealers and killers. Just ask Donald. Over 3,000 outright lies and exaggerations since his inauguration. LIes about every conceivable topic. Separating refugee parents from their children. The list is endless.

The Artful Dodgers if ever there was.
Throwing money around like confetti.
Their stadium is all but condemned as unfit for purpose.
They haven’t build the road to the proposed new stadium yet.
They generate more garbage press comment than West Ham and that’s saying something.
The Lascalles rumours are weeks old so while the hacks are on holiday their office juniors just recyle the old stories.
Don’t forget that after Fat Sam Rafa was to be their new manager because he has a house on merseyside.
You couldn’t make it up but that’s exactly what they do.
Just hope that we put one over them next season both home and away although we may need a striker or two to do that or we’ll have our pockets picked again either by them or they near neighbours.
