Rafa Benitez has said many times before that a good striker will cost Newcastle at least £20M.
But it looks like he will not be getting a striker of that value this summer because the club’s hierarchy are keeping a tight control on the purse strings as usual.
After last night’s 4-0 defeat at SC Braga when Rafa seemed to be worried about the team and what;s going on behind the scenes the news today from Belgium is that we have had a €6M (£5.3M) bid for Anderlecht striker Isaac Kiese Thelin accepted.
The player is available for sale because Anderlecht don’t want to keep him at the club.
26-year-old Anderlecht striker Isaac Kiese Thelin
The 6ft 2ins tall 26-year-old Swedish International striker joined Anderlecht on loan in January of last year and he was transferred from Bordeaux and loaned out to Waasland-Beveren in the Belgian Pro League last summer.
In 36 games he scored 19 goals and had 5 assists for them.
Lokomotiv Moscow are also keen on the striker, and the Belgium report says that there is a ‘good chance’ he will go to Russia.
Isaac Kiese Thelin was in the Swedish 23 man squad for the World Cup in Russia this summer.
It seems that Rafa is reduced to buying cheap players he can afford – rather than the players he wants.
It looks very much like last summer and Rafa cannot be a happy camper at the moment.
Neither are the Newcastle fans.
