Things are not looking too good in the transfer market at the moment with the Newcastle hierarchy stumbling and hesitant in the transfer window.
So there’s no change there.
After supposedly negotiating with West Brom over the sale or the loan of Salmon Rondon for over two months that deal is now off.
The release clause in his contract is now reported to have gone up to £25M – so Newcastle have missed their chance to sign the big striker – somebody Rafa has wanted at Newcastle all summer.
But West Brom will now have trouble selling the player who has only one year left on his contract and could become a free agent next summer.
Rafa Benitez – let down again by the owner
There was some better news yesterday that we may be going after some young players to fill the gaps in the squad.
Players like Everton’s 20-year-old Croatian International attacking midfielder Nikola Vlasic and 19-year-old French left-back Stanley N’Soki, who is at PSG were two of them.
If we can get those up and coming players to the club, they would be good signings – give the shortage of players we have at the moment.
Here’s what Rafa has said to the fans as reported in the Chronicle today:
“Our fans are very clever, I think they know more or less what is going on.”
“So I think they will try to support the team and help the players.”
“They know they have to give everything every game so after we can be better or worse.”
“But we have to compete and we have to be sure we have the same mentality that we had last year.”
We still have 7 days left in this transfer window, so maybe we can get four or five players in – but we will not be holding our breath on that.
But stubborn Mike Ashley has proven – if there were any doubts – that he is not the owner who Rafa can work with – that’s the sad part of all of this.
