There are a number of reports circulating that a deal to bring Salomon Rondon to Newcastle via a loan deal is close.
Both Rondon and Gayle were excluded from their team’s squads for the games today so that added some proof that a deal could be close.
Sky Sports reporter Keith Downey is now saying it’s a straight swap deal with Newcastle paying West Brom £2M.
Well, that’s one way Mike Ashley can reduce the cost but why couldn’t we just bring Rondon to Newcastle for say a £4M fee and keep Gayle we have no idea.
The answer is —– £2M.
Salomon Rondon – coming to Newcastle on loan
To be fair to Ashley maybe West Brom wouldn’t do a straight loan unless they got somebody in Rondon’s place and Dwight is a goalscorer in the Championship – a big one.
Understand Rondon-Gayle swap deal is close to completion. Straight loan-swap with Newcastle paying a fee of around £2m for the Venezuelan striker. Could be done in the next 24 hours.

The other big question is what happens to Rondon after his loan deal ends next year.
At the moment he has only one year left on his contract and if nothing changes he could become a free agent next summer.
We’re sure West Brom will want to do something about that.
What do you think?

Comment #1Rafa on mood in dressing room – is it right? “Before Braga, maybe not. Today, yes. “You cannot complain about the attitude of the players.” #nufc

Comment #3Mike Ashley “I will not and have not the money to compete with teams out of the Championship or Division 1. I have invested wisely in the club over the last 10 year but the coffers are now empty.”

Comment #4Absolutely no chance of Rafa staying beyond next summer. We need to think long and hard about what and where we, as a fan base, go from then.
The only solution I see is to create an atmosphere that gets us relegated (I firmly believe that will happen regardless of our input) and then maintain it to ensure we stay down and therefore Ashley loses money until he can no longer bear it, and sells up.
At least then we can reset, realign, enable investment in infrastructure areas and slowly rebuild with an aim to come back up and become competitive again.
There is no point and no enjoyment in staying up by the skin of our teeth year on year with no hope or ambition to ever do anything more than that.
We cannot allow 10 more years of this, by which time our infrastructure and facilities will be so far behind the times it will take an unreal amount of money and commitment to catch back up.
We are already losing ground to Brighton, Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Wolves and all of the other Premier League stalwarts in terms of performance, finance, facilities and ultimately stature.
Our training facilities are now worse off than many championship sides. It’s criminal negligence.

Small words for the small minded thinking of our owner
Would prefer to see more substantial language

Comment #7Rafa talking about the project it is so evident he wants to stay. Every other club from the top 4 downwards would be desperate for him, willing to work on a project, not demanding hundreds of millions of pounds and has the track record to back it up. Only Newcastle under Ashley could want to the opposite.

Comment #10The banners on the bridges show where the fans’ loyalty lies. I sincerely hope that #IfRafaGoesWeGo gets some legs on it because I can see Rafa going for all-out war this year, especially if he knows we are all behind him.
I’ve seen someone suggest that if Rafa does leave then Ashley has Garry Monk lined up. The mind boggles, it really does. This leech needs to start investing in our training ground and academy, start paying for advertising from SD or getting others in that will pay and sign players that are proven and above £15m and I’m sure all will be forgotten. It’s really really not difficult.
Lol at all the fans buying merch from Start Fitness and DW Sports!

Rondon’s ( r ) value is £13m
Gayle’s ( g ) value is £10m
And we’ve handed over £2m
if you ask the clever lady on Countdown to do the maths, it doesn’t add up
(g + 2) = 12
and
r = 13
then
g – r = -1
What has Charney done with the missing million ?

Comment #13I can’t believe how desperate we now appear to be to sign Rondon at the start of the transfer window when he was first linked to us, no one wanted him. Hope any loan deal is only till Jan with an option for full season, therefore if he turns out to be sh** we can send him back.

Comment #14Pathetic is what it is. Arguing over 1M pounds for Rondon? We’re trying to send them Gayle and 2M pounds? This is what Chutney spends his time doing. Frittering his way through an entire window on bollocks like this.

Comment #15Time to admit Ashley has reached a new low this window. I thought we had reached the bottom before but no this is it. Weak spineless owner trying to bully the manager into signing a contract extension. What a laugh. Rafa is done with us as soon as this season is over at best. You can tell that with every comment he makes about our transfer activity. He has nothing but scorn for Ashley and his minions as well he should.

Comment #16A great manager comes in and tries to lift us up and our pathetic owner undercuts him at every opportunity. This is a stain that has to be wiped off the club. It will take years to recover from Ashley.

I don’t get your maths
We’ve acquired a £13m asset for £12m – what is this missing million you refer to ??
If i walked into cash converters with Gayle and they said “he’s worth £10 million” and i said “how much are you selling that Rondon for over there” and they say “£13 million” – i’d feel i got a good deal if they accepted Gayle plus £2million as then i’ve only had to effectively pay £12 million for Rondon who should have cost £13million
