Rafa’s Damning Message To Ashley – It Was The Idea To Win Trophies Here – I Am Not Happy To Survive

Rafa held a meeting with reporters after the game today when we lost 1-0 to Augsburg at home.

The boss was calm and collected and not as agitated as he was on Wednesday night after the team conceded four goals in the second half against Braga.

But Rafa also made a few pointed comments – aimed at Mike Ashley.

He says he came here for a project and doesn’t like just surviving every year – which seems to be what’s happening for next season.

A stern looking Rafa Benitez – in the dugout today

Do only enough in the transfer market, so we are a Premier League club next season – spend as little as possible – that could be the Ashley strategy in a nutshell.

That’s not for Rafa – he wants to achieve things at Newcastle – which is why he will likely call it a day – and leave next summer when his contract is up.

Here are some of the comments he has made as reported in the Chronicle:

“I think it was an entertaining game for the fans because both teams have chances. We improved from the other day because we had more control and played on the ball a bit better. Still we have to improve.”

“At the moment I can’t say a lot (about transfers). Maybe in a couple of days I can say more.”

“I was talking with Lee Charnley before the game and I’ll maybe see him after the game.”

I’m not saying we’re not working, but we had things lined up.”

“I am confident we can do it (new transfers).”   ” If you’re asking me if it’s ideal I would say no because the way I like to work is to do things early but if we can’t do that we have to work.”

“I hope we can do it.”

“Normally when we have had time and support, we deliver. So we have won trophies everywhere.”

“And it was the idea to do something similar here and I am not happy we have to just survive every year.”

“But at the moment we have to see if we can improve the squad.”

We don’t blame Rafa one little bit – but he has an owner in place who has no ambitions whatsoever for Newcastle.

The level of his ambition is to keep us a Premier League side and spend as little as possible to achieve that.

Comments welcome.

Maybe Arsenal need a new goalpost in which case we could do a Joselu/Wellbeck swap deal with some cash added.

Imagine you’re Rafa for the day and can make 3 realistic signings, who would you sign and why?

Jesper……… You really don’t like Joselu do you. I think we’re stuck with him for this season though. Firstly because who else would want him and secondly because he’s not bad to bring on when we’re trying to see a game out that we’re winning and need someone up top to hold the ball up and take the pressure off the defenders.

He’s definitely not a prolific goal scorer admittedly but Rafa can see other uses for him I think.

We’ll lose every game 1/2-0. We don’t have any creative players hardly. Need two quality south american playmakers. Rondon on a loan is good business. Why pay £16.5m when he’ll be cheaper next season.

When you put you house up for sale you use an Estate Agent….They value your house on the condition and current similar properties.

Once they quote, you may dilly dally a bit….but you don’t ask an extra 25% of what they value it at.

I agree with a few on here, I no longer think our club is for sale. Even if someone offered his £400 million you can see Ashley thinking if they are happy to overpay I will put it up to £450 million.

Quite simply he has no morals and all he is interested in is MONEY

Still need another striker to replace Gayle, 2 playmakers, 1 holding midfielder, two leftbacks, one right back and a centre back. 8 new players in 6 days. 5 new players will probably see us finish mid table.

    Good question!

I’d have that young shit hot prospect from lyon, name escapes me. n’soki has great potential and psg won’t sell to a champs league rival and finally Solanke at liverpool., Another kid with potential who is underused imo

    Betsy…you always confuse things. I don’t know Joselu he’s probably a nice bloke…

But lets just admit for once we bought a player with really scouting the bloke…nor looking at his so-called football CV!

It was a poor buy! Lets stop discussing that shall we…

Bournemouth are about to drop twenty five million quid on Lerma and we can’t even stump up sixteen million (or so) for Rondon. I’m not saying either player is worth the amounts being talked about, but it shows how our club is being run versus a supposedly smaller team like Bournemouth. Shameful.

Ketsbaia – could you provide us with an updated list of who you’d buy and who you’d sell, along with your opinion of how much they’re worth please? I always get a good chuckle when you do that.

If HRMC charges MA with wrong doing is it enough for the FA to kick him from ownership?
Or would he have to be found guilty,im not sure how HRMC operate

Jesper………. I’m not confusing anything. I’m agreeing with you that Joselu is not a prolific goal scorer and his CV confirms that. There is no argument there.
However Rafa must have seen something in him that he thought he could work with besides the fact that he was cheap and we were running out of time and options to sign a forward we badly needed.

Andros Townsend has no intention of moving to Newcastle or anywhere else after declaring he wants to stay at Crystal Palace “for many years”.
Newcastle hold a long-standing interest in bringing Townsend back to St James’ Park, where he spent six months before Palace activated a release clause in his contract following Newcastle’s relegation from the Premier League in 2016.
The Magpies seemed to be prepared to move Matt Ritchie on in order to make way for Townsend’s return but Newcastle’s hopes of signing the 13-cap England international now appear to be over.
    Another one bites the dust

    Ok pal. Recommended signings:

    Tagliafico – £8m
    Rondon – Loan
    Leighton Baines – £1m
    Sebastien Corchia – £5m
    Thiago Maia – Loan
    Giorgian De Arrascaeta – £18m
    Ben Arfa – Free
    Mario Ballotelli – £15m

    Out:

    Gayle – Loan
    Hayden – £8m
    Dummett – £7m
    Ciaran Clark – £8m
    Joselu – £4m

    Net spend = £20m

ketsy is doing his football manager thing again. No ketsy we are not getting 4-5 or 7-8 new players in during the next 6 days. Settle down lad. We’ll probably bring in 1 or 2 and everyone will be disappointed by their quality or lack thereof.

The die is cast now. Rafa will be off at the end of the season. There is no chance of Ashley actually changing his approach which has always been the same. Lie to the manager when necessary to save money, then hope not to get relegated and start lying again for the next window. We will spend less than 10M pounds in the remaining days of this window. In fact I would place a bet on less than 5M. So a big profit for the owner yet again. The transfers out by Ashley have brought in a huge amount of revenue over the last 11 years. I would have to go back and re-calculate but it must be enormous by now.

Joselu is one signing in really could not and still can’t understand. What a total balls up buying a know flop. The only thing I can think of is the Spanish connection.
I know he wasn’t the player Rafa really wanted but it’s another prime example of how nufc has cut corners/gone for the cheapest option only to be stuck with a under par player.

Since 2007-2008 AShley has profited by 40M pounds on net transfer activity. If we spend no further this window that will go up to 65M pounds depending on which transfer fees you believe.

I like loans too for us, where appropriate. Rondon for a year, fine. 4 years, on a big wedge, bit of a worry. Scout well and buy players under 26 that Rafa likes. Loan players of any age, that he likes. As a guide, not bad.

Hahahaha ketsy. You think we can get Maia for 5M? That’s hilarious. Think 20-25M mate. And somebody is going to pay 8M for Hoser Loo? More likely we’ll have to pay them 8M. Hilarious. Nobody is going to pay 7M for Clark either (or 8M for Dummett for that matter. And you think Ben Barfa is still worth 18M and we would pay that much? You are talking about Ashley right? Hahahahaha!!!

Joselu does a job when called upon. In a squad of 25 he’s ok. A miss in the transfer market, but not a catastrophic one at 5 million, so long as he’s mainly on the bench or in the stands on a Saturday. As a player I like a lot about him, but you need far more goals from your starter up top than he’s shown he’s capable of, and more athleticism too. The rest of his game isn’t bad.

Jesper…… Very profound comments. Thank you for your frankness. Seriously though the point is if Joselu is going to be part of the squad for this coming season then we should wipe the slate clean and praise him or criticise him according to his current performances, the same as we shoul every other player.

I can’t see the point in harping back to his stats and giving him an eternal condemnation. Things are not always what they were but what they are now. Bear in mind what I said a few days ago , the players do read this blog or if not are made aware of certain comments.
I know for sure that Perez was devastated at the amount of criticism he received on here last season and deservedly so in my opinion. He did however up his game and worked his nuts off towards the end of the season so let’s hope Joselu does the same.

Joselu played exactly 6 matches for Real ketsy. I think they figured out pretty quickly that he wasn’t good enough. I agree with others that he can come on late in a match and help hold the ball up for a win but that’s about it. A squad member but only if absolutely necessary (which it is because of Ashley).
