Newcastle Getting Close To Signing Another Striker

There is news coming in from L’Equipe journalist Bilel Ghazi – via his Twitter account – that Newcastle are still interested in signing 19-year-old Lyon striker Myziane Maolida.

The teenager has been withdrawn from the International Champions Cup game today at Chelsea.

The news is that Lyon say they do not want to lose the teenager, but it looks like Newcastle are keen on signing the youngster this week.

We were reported interested in the player last Friday by L’Equipe so it looks like Newcastle are now going after the striker.

19-year-old Lyon striker Myziane Maolida

Here’s the tweet by Bilel Ghazi of L’Equipe:

This is the translation of that tweet:

“Newcastle still in talks with Lyon for Myziane Maolida.”

“The striker was initially selected to face Chelsea tomorrow but was replaced tonight in the group by Amine Gouiri. ”

“OL hope, however,  to keep this international French U19 player.”

Maolida had a very good tournament at the Euro U19 Championship this summer and Lyon could be ready to sell the 19-year-old after they signed 18-year-old striker Reo Griffiths from Tottenham Hotspur.

They must be close to a possible deal if they withdrew the teenager from today’s game.

We hope we can get Maolida through the door before Thursday night.

And we need another striker to fill in for Dwight Gayle who left for West Brom on loan yesterday.

Comments welcome.

try and use something original not plagiarised
    from another blogger

I’m sure there are quite a few who thought the
presenting of that embarrassing petition demonstrated
    a certain political innocence.

Unless he’s available for <£5m it won't be a permanent signing. Presumably we must be looking to sell Joselu as if we get another striker in that would leave us with 3 (Muto, Rondon and A.N.Other) when we usually only play 1 up top?

If we got this guy and N’Soki I would be quite pleased with this window (as pleased as a Newcastle fan could expect to be with the fat cancer as owner) So obviously I would also be very surprised if we got one of these players never less both of them

Jib, I merely sarcastically quoted your use of the word ‘novice’ after you “thought” that Onwurah had broken parliamentary rules (without looking it up) and then wrongly accused her of political innocence. There was a follow up question, too.

I wish you would refrain from these ”close to” headlines. Another headline you ran said we were looking ”close to” sealing a deal for Maia the other day! No we weren’t / aren’t !

I would almost take doing a sunderland to get rid of ashley. There just seems to be no end to the endless lies, deceit, spin and shame brought on the club from Wonga through to the HRMC raids.

I don’t know of many owners who have to hire a PR company (Bishop) and creeps like Richard Keys to muckrake and trash a world class manager because he dared to show some ambition. The lack of support for Benitez is as staggering as it is hard to fathom.

The eye watering greed on show from Ashley, coupled with a lack of investment with no apparent interest in the club is compounded by Ashley’s open desire to sell the club but only at a wholly O.T.T price.

From all his previous and incomprehensible appointments to the lack of accountability for the 123M TV money, player sales and gate money from 52000, the questions keeps begging…..where’s the money gone?

Newcastle United are lining-up a raid of Ligue 1, with a £17m double deal on the cards. Reports from France suggest that Rafa Benitez is readying himself to launch a £9m bid for Christopher Jullien of Toulouse, although no such offer has yet been made. Benitez is also still thought to still be keen on Lyon striker Myziane Maolida, with the youngster valued at around £8m (L’Equipe)

Again Jib why is it only Ashley that has trouble negotiating bonuses, so in that theory the likes of everton should be paying their players less bonuses for not kicking on and finishing in a european place after finishing consistently 6-10th, why is he trying to scrap bonuses for the cups I can’t imagine other clubs doing that

    It doesn’t
    bonuses are for improved performance
and improved performance (in the league)
this season would be 9th or higher

    Are they really?

Any bonus I’ve had is for hitting targets.

Maybe the players feel the targets set are unreachable therefore have every right to turn it down.

You know due to there being no significant improvement of the 1st team and squad.

It would be nice to sign a young player with loads of potential to become a superstar even if he is still a bit raw. Most of our players are what they are and not likely to drastically improve and set the world alight. I personally don’t think Jacob Murphy is going to be a special player ( I think we bought the wrong Murphy from what Warnock is saying). He needs to progress this season and establish himself so we’ll see.

This French kid Maolida is meant to have a lot of qualities but I honestly don’t think many superstars slip through the net of the big boys these days particularly in the European leagues. For 8 million I just can’t see him being that special. However if Rafa likes the look of him and he comes to the club you never know. Maybe I’m just an old cynic these days.

How can the team fight for 9th or higher when Ashley won’t provide any funds to get the quality to compete with the other teams trying to get top 9?

We were lucky that a few teams had iffy seasons last season and we had a great bit of form which allowed us to sneak ahead could have easily finished 15th which may have forced Ashley into action to get players in early?

    Re the player bonuses

I of course have no sympathy for the players – they are paid enough already – but this scenario could be good for us in that it puts pressure on Mike Ashley. The players themselves are putting pressure on Ashley, and by going on strike they are also inconveniencing sky and BT who will also put pressure on Ashley to resolve the scenario. Ashley is now under attack from the fans, parliament, the players and the TV companies (where all his precious cash comes from) as well as from Rafa.
Keep up the onslaught everyone! We will break him.

By the way, I would highly recommend reading Che Guevara’s book Guerilla Warfare – we could learn a lot from it on how to bring down the Ashley regime.

I get a bonus if i finish my job in x amount of days (mostly 5 some times 10) this never varies and the bonus is consistent weather i finish in 4 or 5/ 9 or 10

Bonuses are bonuses for meeting certain criteria not for “improved performance”

I’m happy to debate when youre not on the wind up.

The squad overachieved last year, using that as a base to set this year’s target is unrealistic.

I’d say 14th with this squad would be a realistic spot to aim for.

Fantastic! If sky and bt start attacking Ashley financially that may well be enough to force him out.
