TEAMtalk are reporting today on what they call an exclusive that Rafa Benitez is hoping to boost his attacking force in the final day of this summer’s transfer window.
There are now about 26 hours to go before the transfer window slams shut at 5:00pm tomorrow afternoon.
The report is that Rafa wants Liverpool striker Danny Ings at Newcastle and also Wolves Portuguese International Ivan Cavaleiro.
Southampton and Crystal Palace are keen on Ings but Liverpool want £20M plus for their striker who has had two serious knee injuries in the three years he’s been on Merseyside.
The report is that Newcastle want an initial loan deal with an option to buy.
And the other news is that Rafa is also interested in Portuguese international winger Ivan Cavaleiro.
24-year-old Portuguese International winger Ivan Cavaleiro
The 24-year-old signed for Wolves two years ago on a five-year deal from Monaco for a fee thought to be around £7M.
Cavaleiro has played for all the Portuguese youth sides, and he has two full caps.
He played 14 times for the Portuguese U21 side and scored 7 goals.
With Wolves recently signing winger Adama Traore from Middlesbrough, his future now looks uncertain, and it seems Newcastle are looking to buy him.
Newcastle could also try to bring him in on loan with an option to buy next summer.
Newcastle are allowed to have loans of one player from up to two Premier League clubs, and we have Kenedy on loan from Chelsea at the moment.
So we cannot take both Ings, and Cavaleiro on loan – only one of them – and we need a striker so we assume Danny Ings would be the priority.
But we could also buy Cavaleiro outright – but sorry – silly me – I’m dreaming again.
Ashley wouldn’t allow that because it means spending some of the club’s money.
Time is running out, but if we can get one of these players in, it will help Rafa with his attacking options for next season.
One of them would be a good acquisition in addition to a center-back and a left-back.
