Sport are reporting that Newcastle will pay a €2M loan fee for Barcelona center-back Marlon Santos and he will come to Tyneside for a season-long loan.
pHe has played 3 times for the Barcelona first team and stands 6ft tall.ending the player obtaining a work permit. The Brazilian was on loan last season at Nice in Ligue 1 where he played 27 times and it looks like the deal will go through ending the player obtaining a work permit.
He has played 3 times for the Barcelona first team and stands 6ft tall.
Sport say the deal is not yet done and Newcastle will not have an option to buy but Ashley will pay €2M for the season so for the owner it’s a good deal.
22-year-old Barcelona center-back Marlon Santos
Sport reports the player has been part of the first team squad at Barcelona this summer and played a role in their preseason matches on their US Tour.
He has played 12 times for the Brazilian U20 side.
Santos is available because Barcelona signed 23-year-old French U21 defender Clement Lenglet from Sevilla and there is no room for Marlon in the Barcelona squad this season.
The 22-year-old Brazilian signed for Barcelona last summer from Brazilian club Fluminense and we suppose he will come in to fill the gap left by the serious injury to Florian Lejeune.
But we cannot see him getting many first team games unless he can push his way past Lascelles, Clark, and Schar.
But it’s good that we will have a fourth center-back at the club next season.
It’s a pity Rafa couldn’t get an option to buy him in the loan contract – just in case the manager improves the player next season, as he did earlier this year rather dramatically with Kenedy – another Brazilian.
Comments welcome.

Comment #16Swansea City have reportedly told Newcastle United to cough up £10m if they intend to sign centre-back Federico Fernandez before the transfer window closes.
Ahead of Thursday’s deadline, Wales Online suggests that United have been left frustrated in their pursuit of Fernandez, who Championship side Swansea are reluctant to offload on the cheap.
Newcastle are believed to have already had a loan bid rejected, and they are not expected to go any higher than £3m with their offer for the 32-cap Argentina international.

Comment #17I don’t see any signings that will really strengthen our team. Our no. 10 position is still very weak. Rondon doesn’t exactly strike fear with his previous scoring rates. We truly have 1 of weakest team in the league.
It will be a long hard season. I predict relegation for us.

Comment #20We’ll be scoring by committee again this season. Possibly a couple of dozen goals between Muto, Rondon, Perez and Kenedy? Maybe up to 30?

Comment #21Well Charnley, this sounds like another ” we hadn’t factored in the work permit taking so long” excuse, number 76 methinks
After news that Newcastle have now agreed a loan deal to sign Barcelona defender Marlon Santos, North-East reporter George Caulkin has admitted that the Brazilian’s work permit ‘will be an issue’.
Catalan paper ‘Sport’ broke the news this afternoon, claiming the 22-year old has now agreed a season-long loan move to St James’ Park, however the deal looks set to hinge on whether or not he’ll be granted a work permit.

Comment #22Well my take on the farce called Ashley. He says hes owed £140 million Sky money £120 million + 26 million in pocket = more than enough to pay the so called debt. I can only come to the conclusion hes getting his money back. What else surely he is selling im praying i have got this correct.

Comment #27Ashley counts on running the club on at least part of the SKY money, including wages NUFC4ever. Wages alone will take a lot of it. I would say he could easily begin paying himself back though. But he won’t. It’s the hook he has into us and there’s the free advertising he gets as well. Very clever little monkey we have here.

Comment #28Cant understand the big push for a 4th choice cb? We need another striker, a playmaker and RB and LB. Newsflash Dummet isn’t a LB and how many goals did we conceded becoz of yedlin getting caught under crosses or out of position? If job joe gets injured we play like league 1 team holding the ball long. Am I the o it one who sees this?

Comment #30We’ve got a bit more than that nufc11. But I do see your point about our fullbacks. I have big reservations about Yedlin. His pace is electric but yes, he does get caught oot of position quite often. I think Dummett is improving and will do at LB at a pinch.

Comment #31I think we’ve sold two strikers who have more goals in them than the two we’ve signed. I’d be worried if we don’t sign another striker before the deadline to be honest.

Comment #32Sometimes people (including me) don’t like a player and then only see his negative side while ignoring the positives. I’m going for a more balanced approach now. Such as, that Perez fella can play a blinder now and then but just as often he reeks.

Personally son I see them as more make do and hope they get us through another season calibre of player rather than pushing us to the next level. But hey I always knew Ashley’s love child would accept anything the fat lad gives us..case proven

Comment #40Signing a player who is similar to Mbemba but probably worse. Rafa got rid of Mbemba becuase he’s too small. This guy is the same height. We have never replaced Davide Santon at left back. He should never have been sold.
