Report – Newcastle Close To Getting Barcelona Center-Back On Loan For Season

Sport are reporting that Newcastle will pay a €2M loan fee for Barcelona center-back Marlon Santos and he will come to Tyneside for a season-long loan.

pHe has played 3 times for the Barcelona first team and stands 6ft tall.ending the player obtaining a work permit. The Brazilian was on loan last season at Nice in Ligue 1 where he played 27 times and it looks like the deal will go through ending the player obtaining a work permit.

He has played 3 times for the Barcelona first team and stands 6ft tall.

Sport say the deal is not yet done and Newcastle will not have an option to buy but Ashley will pay €2M for the season so for the owner it’s a good deal.

22-year-old Barcelona center-back Marlon Santos

Sport reports the player has been part of the first team squad at Barcelona this summer and played a role in their preseason matches on their US Tour.

He has played 12 times for the Brazilian U20 side.

Santos is available because Barcelona signed 23-year-old French U21 defender Clement Lenglet from Sevilla and there is no room for Marlon in the Barcelona squad this season.

The 22-year-old Brazilian signed for Barcelona last summer from Brazilian club Fluminense and we suppose he will come in to fill the gap left by the serious injury to Florian Lejeune.

But we cannot see him getting many first team games unless he can push his way past Lascelles, Clark, and Schar.

But it’s good that we will have a fourth center-back at the club next season.

It’s a pity Rafa couldn’t get an option to buy him in the loan contract – just in case the manager improves the player next season, as he did earlier this year rather dramatically with Kenedy – another Brazilian.

Comments welcome.

Ash will spend in January, especially if we’re near the bottom of the table, also a last grasp to get Rafa to sign a new contract.

I still don’t understand the Lerma price. That way lies madness. I understand he’s good but his recent valuation was way below that and a defensive midfielder? Like paying wild money for Tiote (except Tiote had a better car).

    Brazilian links???

But speculation around Maia highlights the importance – once again – of Benitez’s network of contacts. Because Maia shares the same agent as one of Newcastle’s recent signings Kenedy.

That man is Giuliano Bertolucci – the representative for most of the big name Brazilian players in Europe. He works for Oscar, Lucas Piazon and even David Luiz – who was the subject of a very speculative reported loan enquiry from Rafa Benitez in January.

Bertolucci is seriously well-connected, working primarily with fellow ‘super agent’ Kia Joorabchian, and has done plenty of business at Chelsea – who held talks with Maia before he opted to go to Lille instead.

In a profile in the Times last year, he was described as “adored by his players, feared by their clubs and trusted implicitly at Chelsea”.

according to SunSport Pogba who turned up to training hidden under a blanket in the back seat of a chauffeured car revealed he has told pals he wants to leave Old Trafford – and will only stay for a £200,000-a-week pay rise to put him closer to top earner Alexis Sanchez.

A pay rise of £800,000 per month on top of current earnings .

It’s like the freak show at the circus.

Danny Rose is a no brained can’t believe we are not in for him!

Bolasie is also in talks with Boro and he is better than most of our wingers bar Kennedy in my opinion.

We are really desperate for a no10 and can’t believe it is a position that has not been mentioned much again!

That report’s been rubbished on SSN – apparently he never demanded more money. Just SunSport being… Well, SunSport.

Yup, apparently Fulham have made a bid for Bryan.

There’s hope yet though – Sky claim that ‘other unnamed clubs’ (other than Shalke) have been given permission to talk to Rose regarding a loan.

    Ah, hope…

Rose and Kenedy down the left. That’d pretty schmick, and would allow the very capable Paul Dummett to cover at lb and cb. C’mom Rafa, get after ‘im son.

“We are really desperate for a no10”

what is meant by a number 10? attacking midfielder? second striker? deep lying striker?

the need for a number 10 probably depends on the formation. maybe Rafa will play 4-4-1-1 less now there are more/different options up front.

in my view Perez best position is a number 10/central attacking midfielder and Rafa does like him and probably isn’t going to upgrade him for a better player yet.

as far as i’m aware Perez has never been injured so maybe if he is less prone to injury the chance of needing cover is less and if he is injured there are other option.

    just a few thoughts!

Yeah, I think Perez is nailed on for the second striker role behind Rondon, and Muto is there to push him, and might even more realistically find a way into the 11 at the expense of Ritchie. Perez is a big player for us.

Jib it was a typo hoofing the ball long without jon joe shelvey playing cm, thats what we do check the stats you moron we don’t have a creative midfielder without him. I made the point we are chasing a potential 5th choice cb in santos if lejune comes back can you see the point in that? Not when we have championship rejects playing full back on both sides, no creative midfielder back up or striker for that matter.

Doing the usual of looking at random football news, only just realised that Rémy has joined Lille for next to nothing. Granted he’s probably not as sharp as he once was, but would have bagged a few and brings in the experience that we seem to be lacking.

our squad looks horribly weak especially at the full backs area. we only have championship standard players or worse as back ups. Manquillo might not even get into the sunderland team.

no.10 aside from Perez we basically have no one else.

What a horrible horrible window after finishing 10th.

I think central defenders are the most important position for Rafa. We already have 4 so a loan makes sense. And if Lascelles gets injured we are in trouble. I like Dummet defensively and even said as much back when we had Pardew and everybody was slating him, but to have Dummet, Clark, and Yedlin in the same team is too many limited defenders and we know nothing about how Schar will adapt. Yedlin inparticular seems to crumble without Lascelles shouting at him. Clark is hopeless on the ball and can only do very simple stuff, same as Dummett.
