Newcastle Fans Have Their Say On This Summer’s Transfer Window

Forget about the money Rafa was not allowed to spend – that’s all Ashley’s doing – and he will drive Rafa out of the club.

But for £22M the players Rafa brought into the club we think are very good.

Dubravka and Kenedy were Newcastle stars this year in the second half of the season.

Salomon Rondon and Yoshinori Muto replace Aleksandar Mitrovic (who Rafa never played) and Dwight Gayle and that has to be an upgrade.

Kenedy listens to points Rafa Benitez is making (good)

Ki Sung-yueng could turn out be the signing of the season as a free agent – and Fabian Schar and Federico Fernandez are two quality center-backs.

So while we are furious with Mike Ashley we have a better squad than last year at this time.

What’s missing is Mike Ashley needs to allow Rafa to spend £20M or £30M or more, on players who are already top-notch to further strengthen the team.

But he won’t do that.

Here are tweets from our fans.

Alan’s right – this is now what we have to do.

Sutty 1978 comment 69Accept it man we are a selling club – end of . When Carr was here he was seeking out young French players mainly that Ashley could and did sell on at a profit. Just like he does at Sport Direct wheeling and dealing his cheap tat. That’s the nature of the beast. So either accept it & get behind what we’ve got or walk = simple

Still, I quite like the look of this side and won’t have any problem getting fully behind it even if the bench looks a bit patchy here and there in terms of quality.

Much better Wolves team on paper says it all. The big job the Wolves manager has got is making the team gell & quickly. If he does it’ll be wonderful for the Wolves fans but if he doesn’t he’ll be sacked probably. NUFC, Brighton & Huddersfield all stayed up last season but didn’t spend shedloads of brass.

Sutty, I can’t help thinking your naming of the recent signings as ‘journeymen’ is disrespectful. Certainly not supportive in the slightest.

As well as the new signings, people need to remember we have Atsu injury free for the first time in goodness knows how long and Jacob Murphy re-energised and with a year of Rafa coaching under his belt. With Kenedy and Ritchie as the starters and Atsu and Murphy as back-up, there’s pace and power in our flanks and plenty of it. This is where our main threat will come from this season, as it did last season. The difference is that last time round we struggled to finish off the chances they created, hopefully Rondon, Perez and Muto will have more success.

The point I was making was that some of the players were fit for purpose e.g Cabs but all Ashley was interested in was moving them on at a profit .There has never been any sort of long term strategy & never will be under this regime, for moving the Club up to the next level

Ashley is going nowhere. He knows the fans will never boycott. All the chants he has heard before so wont bother him too much. Affecting his sd shops in newcastle wont affect him too much as he has stores nationwide and global where other fans dont care about newcastle. The full blame should go to shepherd and hall for selling to ashley in first place. If fans boycott other ppl will probably buy tickets on matchday or maybe away fans will get more tickets allocated. Very sad times ahead im afraid

Because of ashley we will fall so behind other teams i dont see us makeing europe for many years even if we get sold say 5 yrs on. West ham Everton fulham the top 6 Leicester all will be light yrs ahead. I dont see any progress while ashley is here. Just survival. After benitez it will be allardyce moyes pardew pulis types in to keep us in prem with loan signings. Jus like how small teams in italy operate the likes of chievo spal beneventos etc

Every season is the same in the transfer windows we are always 2/3 quality players short under this regime. We could have had Joe Bryan for £6M (release clause). We could have sealed a deal for Santos weeks ago but the ambition is just not there. I do think wages now have a big part to play in the whole scenario. Fulham & Wolves could indeed suffer the same consequences that QPR, Notts Forrest & Leeds have in the past by overspending if the signings don’t deliver.

Please quit it with the spending 20M+ on a single player and/or a big net spend in the transfer window doesn’t guarantee success argument.

    Nobody is saying it does.

    1. Respecting an individual signing what any realistic Toon supporter is saying is that Rafa wants the ability to say I’m going to make that big money signing on player X (for a No. 10 or proven striker or solid LB) without Charnley & Barnes saying that’s too much Rafa why not this guy over here from this relegated team wee can bring in for 6M… He’s on your list bottom half but you have him there. He wants control over how the budget he has is spent no bars on big money signings because they are big money or over some arbitrary age threshold. You will never be a top 10 regular side pushing for anything if you hamstring your acquisitions this way. Never. What’s worse when a cheap “Rafa” signing tanks like say Joselu you “supporters” use that as proof Rafa really can’t spot good talent anyway as if the Horse was really who Rafa wanted brought in rather than who he was allowed to bring in.

    2. Respecting the budget he wanted control (as above) but also certainty, you will get this minimum (rumoured 50M net spend) plus any sales and every penny the club generates and an investment in training facilities and academy. If you can’t do that (and Ashley can afford that) , you will never be doing more than fighting to stay up.

Those are not big asks for Ashley, that is what it takes to be ambitious.

    Roll on Saturday and HWTL

To the person whom asked what we can do about it.Nothing, we can’t and won’t if we could (at least not enough to budge Ashley) but let’s not sugarcoat it by saying this window was okay it wasn’t it was disastrous in terms of the clubs long term outlook. Rafa will walk at the end of the season (bar an unexpected sale of the club to an owner he can agree terms with – no reason to believe that for a second despite what some here are posting). Ambitious players will follow him out (Kenedy won’t stay if we offered to buy), Lascelles and Shelvey will move on etc. ad icoming players will be mercenary Sissoko types only coming in to put themselves in the shop window for big clubs to take a look. Yes a complete return to the Pardew era. Glad you lot are so happy wih that future because it is what this window which was crucial to sign Rafa now guarantees despite the fact our current squad is marginally better than last year. Easily satisfied you are.

The problems at left back and number 10 have been mentioned lots. Shelvey cover has been mentioned once or twice but ki somewhat covers that. What has hardly been mentioned is if an injury occurs to diame, we do not have a ball winner. Shelvey isn’t, ki isn’t and Hayden doesn’t seem to be ready for that role in the premier league. Alternative could possibly be to play a sack full of money to the sum of £20m!!

Aarons still here and you ain’t getting rid of me 😉

But these players can still move away as European leagues still have an open transfer window.

Likes of woodman etc can still go out on loan to football league clubs. That deadline is end of the month.

While Lejuene is out I can see lascelles Clark being the cbs. Soon it will be lascelles and Fernandez I reckonand I think I prefer that over schar. Clark will have to be cover for dummett too. Unlike some I’m not open to giving Roberts a game there. Happy to give him opportunities but not out of position. Similarly to young Fernandez.

Very good points made IMO. I also think it’s been a “good” window. There’s no doubt that it could have been a “great” window though.

I think Leicester winning the league after low spending on players has further added to Twatshley’s belief that you don’t need to spend money to succeed.

Either that or he’s just a massive c**t.

    Or both.

    Yeah, probably both

Wow. Mr. Negativity. So we’re all crawling out of the woodwork after the window closes to give our positive opinions. Or maybe we just didn’t jump the gun and we waited until the scene had been performed before we commented – unlike so many here – and made a valued judgement on the total window rather than a knee jerk reaction to every false media claim and lie reported by the red-tops.

I think it is less likely that we are delusional and more likely that you are in need of a little psychiatric stabilising after succumbing to the transfer window hysteria which I, for one, did not buy into.

    Rob @63 I agree wholeheartedly

Better squad now imo, it has been strengthened surely we can see that, Kenedy for another season for a couple of million, terrific as far as i am concerned, Rondon on loan fine by me, if he’s pants he goes back, (imo, hes big strong powerful and skillful and will get goals) of course we would love to see a couple of permanent big signings come in but that is no guarantee of owt although it lifts our spirits a bit, we all know how Mr Mike goes about his business and he does not give a monkeys how much we cry about it, looking forward to the match on saturday, i really think we will give Spurs a real test.

Those Ashley apologists who come on here and try to polish a turd really are either just WUMs with pathetic lives or a big part of NUFC’s problem. Either way, I would suggest the rebellion should begin with a total, blanket, ignoring of all their posts, no matter how provocative. Let us purge this blog of all these puppets by starving them of the oxygen of attention they so badly crave. Anyone happy with this transfer window is just not getting it and most likely never will. Ignore them. Do not engage. The only thing NUFC will win under MA is the Championship or, worse still, League one ffs. Pathetic!

    Posada if you’re still about

I agree that it’s been maintenance but not very conscientious maintenance. Every player will be a year older by the end of the season and we aren’t planning well. Maintenance would suggest that we’re pulling in youth who will be ready to step in when our players move on. I think the squad is about the same as last year although has the potential to be better (depending on how Rondon, Ki, Muto and Schar adapt under the best manager they’ll have played for in Benitez). Regardless, if Rafa is ‘seething’ at the end of the window then we, as a club, are not better off than we were before the window started. I think we mostly agree, I’m just not ready to put on the rose-tinted glasses just yet 🙂

Hopefully Saturday will change my mind!
