New Signing Talks About Former Captain And Linking Up With Rafa Again

Even with top center-back Florian Lejeune now injured and possibly out for the season, there will still be considerable competition in central defense this season.

Rafa has brought in Fabian Schar of Deportivo and yesterday we got Federico Fernandez who has played in the Swansea first team for four years in the Premier League.

So captain Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark will soon feel the pressure of these two players pushing for a first team starting position – and that’s great for the team.

Federico has been interviewed by nufcTV and has talked about Fabricio Coloccini who was at the club for eight years when we signed him from Deportivo in 2008 for about £10M.

Federico Fernandez – signing for Newcastle yesterday

Fabricio had a tough first season when we were relegated,  but over the next five years or so he was a top-class center-back before losing form in the last couple of years on Tyneside.

Federico has talked about the former Newcastle captain on nufcTV:

“He was a great player for the club and I hope I can do the same as he did.” “I hope I can be like him.”

“Maybe in the future I will have the opportunity to speak with him.”

“I need to think about the city and the club and during the week I will contact him.”

“I worked with him (Rafa) at Napoli and he won trophies.” “He was also the key to me moving to Swansea too because he told me about the Premier League.”

“We have now found a way together again.” “Rafa and the staff are working really hard to improve the players.”

“It’s very good for everybody at the club.”

Fernandez has already played for Swansea this season, so he is match-fit and likely to be on the bench tomorrow for our first game at home to Tottenham.

Watch for some top players to e left out of the match-day 18 for tomorrow’s game.

Swansea were reported to be wanting £10M for Fernandez all summer, but we agreed a fee of £6M for him with the Swans – probably paid in total up front – which allows us to get good deals on players.

That’s another good deal to get an experienced Premier league center-back into the squad.

But yes, we were still surprised Ashley actually paid out some money on the final day of the transfer window.

Those who didn’t look at the HoF news this morning and think ‘what the f@ck’ can go with Ashley when he finally buggars off.
I’m disgusted with it, he knows that by keeping Rafa manager and spending money to make the squad better would help the club progress and make himself more money. He just chooses not to do it out of ignorance and to piss all the fans off.

    Average,

Yeah I think trying to defend him in this case is a ridiculous exercise. He does hold grudges. He has previous.

Sadly the only outcome of Ashley’s takeover of House of Fraser is that he will convert some of the property he has acquired into more Sports Direct Stores that will benefit from the free advertising space on Sky TV displayed at SJP.

Or install Sports Direct departments within the larger House of Fraser stores each feeding sales off the other.

    It’s a multiplier effect.

Most grounds in the Premier League are vehicles for their owners to showcase their brands be it Emirates, Ethiad, or Sports Direct without having to actually spend money directly with TV companies.

If you costed out the amount of air time and camera exposure gained during Sky coverage and then compared it to how much that time would cost you if you actually bought advertising time on the TV or space in quality press then it’s an absolute no brainer.

It’s effectively a carousel of greed and unfortunately Ashley is not about to step off this merry go round.

Who is it that decides which players fit the club’s criteria? Ashley and Charnley with help from Bishop and Barnes, maybe Beardsley and Moncur help out and when they want a deciding vote Wise or Kinnear are just a phone call away. All this while a UEFA elite manager is on the pay roll.

I wonder if the bonus dispute was really because Ashley wanted them to moonlight as staff for his new shop chain on zero hour contracts

It’s all about business sense, and there isn’t much return on NUFC for him (!!!), except we should be self-sustainable by now and club should be able to spend as they see fit. So there’s zero validity for saying he’s taken money from NUFC to buy HoF. It’s just galling he spends where he sees fit and that isn’t on us. It’s quite disturbing how much of the high street he’s invested in. Expecting to see new House of Fraser and French Connection advertising hoardings this season!

As a shareholder Cashley would have been well aware of the situation of HoF b4 the transfer window as he’s got a vested interest. The fact is over the years Cashley has more than often taken from the club and not given. This will not change. I see no reason why the revenue from NUFC could not be used to secure his ownership of HoF or any other venture he wishes to pursue. NUFC is a cash cow to cashly with free advertising for his latest acquisition.

Well at least we know where MA couldn’t find the money for new players. He should have just said that he was using it to purchase house of fraser.!!!

Tottenham already have a top quality squad and have just spent a billion on a new stadium so I can understand.

To be fair it is Sports Direct that is buying House of Fraser, not Ashley as an individual. That would give Ashley approximately 60% ownership of HOF, if I am not mistaken. Just enough of a percentage to give Ashley control and leverage, with plenty of other people’s money to spend for them. Air Force Ashley as an example.
