Paul Merson’s Prediction For Newcastle Against Tottenham

Paul Merson admits the Newcastle vs Tottenham game is a difficult one to predict with Tottenham having a weakened side because of the World Cup and their best players not being available tomorrow.

He seems to take the easy way out and goes for a 0-0 draw – and we suppose that would be a decent result for Newcastle.

But we have a chance tomorrow to play against a weakened top side, and Rafa will be wanting a win especially with the first 8 games including five top six clubs.

Rafa Benitez – will want a win tomorrow

Here’s what Paul has said about the game:

“This is a tough one. This was an early game last year, and Spurs got a couple of late goals, but I feel they’ll find it hard due to the World Cup.”

Spurs just haven’t got their players back. Rafa Benitez will make them hard to beat. “

“Spurs won’t have the goals early on so Newcastle will hold on this year. I’m going for a goalless draw.”

Prediction: 0-0

Here’s how our fans think it will go tomorrow.

Can beat Spurs, just depends on their state of mind after off field problems.

Also seeing a lot of chat about that Ashley is apparently saving money for when Rafa leaves for a new manager to spend?! Apart from Rafa when has a manager been allowed to spend money on players that they CHOOSE under Ashley?

Pardew and Mclaren were given players to work with they did have some input on players at times but it was mostly down to Carr picking them and even then they didn’t go for his top picks!

Wouldn’t surprise me if Ashley is still being advised on football matters by Wise, Carr and Kinnear !!

0-0 is not a decent result.

    Guess what
He’s found some money to spend
    Now ask some questions

Mike Ashley, the Sports Direct tycoon and owner of Newcastle United FC, is on the brink of buying House of Fraser (HoF) in a deal that will make him the most important figure on the British high street.

Sky News can exclusively reveal that Mr Ashley is close to an agreement to buy the department store chain from EY, the accountancy firm that was appointed on Friday morning as its administrator.

I hope spurs don’t score, as if they do the chants will come out immediately against Ashley. Can’t see us getting back in to the game if they score first. I’d snap your hand off for 0-0.

I get all that, I’m not saying there hasn’t been poor signings. There’ll always be poor signings. But what you’re saying is different to someone going around saying Rafa has wasted money when in fact he has made money. Supposedly now, he offers and does all the contracts too.

We almost killed Spurs at Wembley. They haven’t bought same team or weaken team.

We are going to be Spurs and they will say because it was their weaken team. It’s still Spurs we also don’t have Lenjuel r we complaining.

Our sqaud has many positives. We have no superstars hence we have no one that is assured of starting except Perez, Dummett and Lasceles.

A 1-0 win is the call for me. My only doubt is that some of the more likely lads will either not be picked, because they’ve only been here 5 minutes, or will only come on late, or won’t fit in without the necessary training ground drills. That apart, we’ve been given an easy first match (World Cup) – there will never be a better time to play Spurs this season, nor a better place.

not sure you’ve thought this out. rafa could go to china tomorrow and get 20m a year. Also I’m pretty sure just before us he was managing the biggest team on the planet. 6M would be absolute peanuts to some clubs for getting a world class manager. #IRGWG

If he has taken money out of the club to buy House of Fraser, surely that must count as part of the ‘loan’ being paid back.

”From the 12 players we signed from championship how man do we still have?”
That points to bad choices???, is it not the idea to upgrade championship players?

    Rafa in the 2015/16 season
    received a £8.5M pay-off from
Real Madrid plus an extra £500K
    when Real won the CL
£1M for the 10 games he managed
    NUFC .
    £10M for a seasons graft !
He could retire tomorrow and be set-up
    for life.

You might remember our opening fixture last year. Spurs were turgid and gave us no trouble until 2 of our 4 defenders got injured and Shelvel shot us in the foot. I don’t know tomorrow’s starting line up, but here’s what it’s got to beat:
Lejeune(off, injured for months, 34, Mbemba)
Dummett(off, injured for months, 7 Lascelles)
    Gayle (desperate sub 76 Merino)

Agree with Merson that it’s a hard call as we don’t know who will turn up for Spurs.

I could imagine that their replacements, for those first team absentees, may have a point to prove to their manager and may compete that little bit harder. Although I wouldn’t know what state of mind Danny Rose, Alderweireld and Dembélé may have once it became known that their manager was happy to get rid of them.

If the same team (minus Gayle) that beat Chelsea on the last day of last season takes the field and performs as well then a win is a strong possibility. A draw would be a fair bet. Can’t seeing us losing.

I doubt any of the new recruits, possibly with the exception of Kenedy, will start. I regret to say that I think Joselu will start but is likely to be replaced by ‘I’m not quite sure who’.

Im glad we got some players in but ashleys cocking around will probs lose us a great manager by the end of the season…roll up ya sleeves lads, dig in and shows teams with less talent but more fight can succeed in this league… good luck to rafa, his staff, lascelles and his boys for the season ahead.

Hopefully IF the fat twat buys HoF he’ll want shot of us even more, he’ll still need to fund the turnaround.

And to the people who says he’s using us to buy them, go boil ya heeds, MASH is sitting on £500m+ in their banks. Admittedly we’re part of that but not to a massive extent.
