Newcastle looked very ordinary today against a team that is tipped to finish bottom of the Premier League this season.
The first half was fairly even with the Bluebirds seeming on top but we had four shots on goals and they had none.
In the second half, Isaac Hayden was sent off as Cardiff pushed for the winner.
Newcastle held on well with 10 mean and then we got a penalty in stoppage time to take the 3 points.
Kenedy put in a poor penalty that was saved by the goalkeeper.
We looked a very ordinary side today.
The Murphy twins – both on in second half
Pity Matt Ritchie was taken off otherwise we would have probably won it.
But we hardly deserved the point – if truth be told.
Two poor teams today. A terrible game and an awful penalty! #CARNEW

“Just interviewed Jonjo Shelvey, who said Kenedy is the next player on the list to take a penalty if Ritchie is not on the pitch. #NUFC”

Comment #4After that performance, at least Chelsea won’t be wanting to keep Kenedy at the end of the season. So many negatives from that game.

Comment #5Absolutely rank performance and two
Points dropped. That’s as poor a performance as I’ve seen from a Newcastle side.
Aces of Eigts; As fair Rafa couldn’t beat Warnock; Cardiff will not play better this season, we will improve. Rafa and Warnock don’t actually play.
Oh and you are an idiot.

Comment #8The Kennedy haters today “including me!” We all would of started him without any doubt! The question is why does Rafa keep persevering with players who our poor on match days! I thought Shelvey was good today but often too deep, Dubravka was a lot better and more vocal today, so trying to see the positives.

Comment #9If kenedy gets retro ban i wouldnt miss him. Overrated not by chelsea but by us. Last season we lost 1st 2 games this season we got 1 point so not all doom and gloom. Lets just move on and stop talking about this garbage game of todays. Waste of time and energy. However joselu and manquilo and hayden must never play again unless we have no one else left. Sterry or yedlin if fine. Muto and rondon need to start. Give ki a chance. Our wing is still weak no matter who plays hence i want 3 man midfield ki shelvy diame. Or get marchisio in. Also need ben arfa.

Comment #10In many respects I’m glad Kenedy missed that penalty as neither club deserved to win.
It was a very poor display. There was little cohesion. Very few players came away with any credit. I thought Murphy did well.
I wonder whether the opposition have figured out Kenedy as he rarely keeps to the wing and takes on the fullback and crosses the ball. The only run at their fullback I can remember was Murphy.
Looks like Yedlin will make a speedy return, and not before time.

Comment #11Can’t agree with Shelvey as MotM. Josh Murphy was miles better than any performance on our side and Shelvey hit many, many poor passes. His good ones were in the minority. Though in terms of options I thought we were pathetic- he either hit it long or went backwards so it’s tough to judge him too harshly.
I can’t understand why we are incapable of attempting passes of under 40 yards- why when we are facing Cardiff, the absolute head it and boot it team of this year and last year in the Championship, would we play the same game as them?! Their defenders WANT to play against that sort of team! It’s what they’re good at!
I would love to hear an honest appraisal of today from Rafa and why we played like that today. Lumping it up to a hologram of Joselu!?!

Comment #16MOM not Shelvey but given what our team looks like he & Rafa feel he is best utilised in a deeper position! Dubravka MOM for me from a poor game but pleased Murphy got a run and we should see more from him.
Muto & Rondon are a must for the next game!

I would pick Murphy as he had to cover a right back position that had already claimed its two previous occupants but still managed to get forward and was a threat when given the opportunity.

Comment #20I think Josey looked good today ( when he ran on the pitch ). Myself loves Rafa being our manager but when he screws the pooch then I cannot give him the credit he deserves. Manny is garbage plain and simple, subbed at halftime due to injury, more like subbed at halftime because Murphy ripped him a new a-hole. Sent on a midfielder to try and play right back? Unless I don’t know something that has been done or said but when you actually have someone like Sterry who plays right back naturally why the hell didn’t he start the match? On another note why is Rondon sitting on the bench and Josey is running around the pitch well jogging. On the Penalty, not a good one but the keeper did well to save by standing his ground and waiting. Kenedy will not be playing next match and maybe more than that as the panel will take care of that, not a good day to be a Toon Army Supporter!!!

Agree with Jamie & Bellamy on SS, fair assessment into Rafas control on all decisions, it just shows he has no trust in the players!

Comment #22Lascelles or Shelvey MoM for me. Murphy did ok when he came on too – we needed pace on that side. Everyone else – nowhere near. But even Lascelles and Shelvey underperformed badly.

Comment #26Only brightside for today: we played about as poor a game as possible away from home and still got a point out of it and had a chance to steal 3.
We couldn’t handle Cardiffs physical tactics. We were second best to every ball until oddly enough the red card. With one or two exceptions (shelvey and lacelles) the players looked scared to go for a challenge.
Manquillo can never play for us again. He is dire and a coward.
Hayden embarrassed himself today.
Kenedy as well with that kickout. He’s out next 3 games – maybe 4 if the fact he can’t play against chelsea while on loan doesn’t count towards his retrospective ban.
And the ref called kenedy’s first foul. He didnt see the kickout just after that.
And rafa was limited with subs because of manquillos injusy cost one sub which would have been rondon.
Perez had a couple good moments but cardiffs physical play was in his head. Muto was the logical choice.
The red card made us take off ritchie as we needed pace to help on that side.

Comment #28There are very few games where I can honestly say I don’t think there was a single positive to take out of it at all. One of the absolute worst performances I can remember.
Terrible in every regard. Rafa has a lot of explaining to do.

Comment #29Bit of perspective here lads,Cardiff at home will be tough for a few teams this season.Rafa said he needed players in early so they can gel,it didn’t happen and therefore the new guys need to gel now so our season is going to start slow.
Have a go at manquillo and Hayden but the midfield today did them no favours, bad passing all game even Shelby seemed a bit off although he was the best of the bunch.
Perez wasn’t too bad got into good positions and was only stopped by a lucky keeper.
Kennedy didn’t win many new fans today but he had an interrupted pre-season, all in all we played well last week ,deserving of a point, but it wasn’t nice too watch today but we’re off ,we’ve got our first point on the board and we will get better, ps isn’t it strange that you always get a strange type of mystic power when a player is going to miss a penalty,I knew before he hit it it was going to be saved and I think a few fans did too.
