These Were Newcastle’s Best Two Players At Cardiff

It’s good to see Jonjo Shelvey having more control on the pitch, and all he needs to do now is keep it up.

Newcastle did show a lack of discipline on Saturday at Cardiff City with Isaac Hayden sent off in the second half and Kenedy stupidly kicking out at an opponent in the first half.

The Brazilian will almost certainly get a retroactive 3 match ban for that either today or tomorrow.

So we will be missing those two players for the next three games.

Jonjo Shelvey – in action on Saturday – had a good game

And Javier Manquillo was lucky not to get a second yellow card in the first half when he had trouble containing Cardiff City left winger Josh Murphy – Jacob’s twin brother.

Shelvey had a good game, and he’s our Man of the Match, and the England International also played well in preseason and hopefully will continue his self-control all season.

That would be excellent.

Captain Jamaal Lascelles played well at the back and dealt with the high balls into the box – which seemed to be Cardiff’s strategy on Saturday.

Jamaal is second in the voting, and Martin Dubravka is next in line.

The Slovakian was solid in goal and kept his first clean sheet of the season.

Hopefully, there will be a lot more of those if we are to do well this season.

Martin is an important player for Newcastle.

I’ve been quite a few days, and this has probably already been said by most people, but that was the worst game of football I have seen the Toon play for a lot of years. We made Cardiff look good, and they weren’t.

It grieves me to say it but I thought
Muto in the half-hour he had ,
    showed more than Perez.
The Japanese was playing in a reduced
    side as well.

I’m sure Joselu’s task was to wear down
the Cardiff big fellers at the back and then
    introduce Rondon to take advantage.
Being down to 10 men scuppered that plan.

Diamé’s bursts through the middle will be easily
countered by Chelsea’s Luiz , the subtler game
of Ki SY will be needed.

Hopefully in the next game Ritchie can stay
on for longer than an hour.

There will be wholesale changes for the trip
to Forest – loads of young’uns with a lot of first
    teamers not even travelling

Just in case anyone forgot, Wise did a 3 month stretch back in 95 for beating up a cabby when the police literally had to drag him off his victim.

I’d like to see the new boys get a start against Chelsea ie Rondon for Joselu, Muto for Perez and ki for Diame. Personally have never rated Perez always looks lost to me be but does try hard I just don’t think he’s good enough.

Have a look at The Mag’s site and you should find a transcript of the Wise interview. You might just see that the questions posed by Keys were’ to say the least, leading and Wise’s answers included misleading figures or outright lies. Wise seemed to have quite an array of figures to quote, in his locker. Scripted by Bishop or what?

And that interview took place after the ‘we all must work to the same page’ letter issued by the club and signed by Charnley, Lascelles and Rafa! So not only is Ashley undermining Rafa through Bishop and his chums in the media, he’s undermined Charnley too.

If Kennedy gets 3 matches ,…does the chelsea game count towards that ? Which he would be missing anyway ?

Les Ferdinand said it was common knowledge
on his estate that Wise and a couple of his footy
apprentice cronies had done it .

Jib, Perez and Muto are very different players. Perez operates very centrally, the limited views we’ve had of Muto so far indicate he likes to pull wide of the penalty area. This is something we also saw from Slimani during his loan. I wonder if this is a significant part of Rafa’s strategy as it seems unlikely to be a coincidence.

Also, the fact that Arsenal created maybe 7 chances against Chelsea by reaching the byline and cutting the ball back to the penalty spot will not have been missed by Rafa and that kind of play seems more likely with Muto playing, given the above.

We should throw everything into winning the match v Forest and go all out to win the league cup.
Rafa would love to get us a trophy before saying adios at the end of the season, and if we sacrificed our PL status while doing so, relegation to the championship would be Ashley’s just desserts and would probably get him to sell up. Win win.

I would like to see Rondon start but disagree with others about Perez.

In the absence of Gayle, Perez was the player that Shelvey was trying to hit with pinpoint passes at Cardiff.

Gayle was the perfect accompaniment to Shelvey’s strength of forward passing. I’m yet to be convinced (having not seen them play) that Rondon, Mutu or Ki SY are Gayle’s replacement in the way that plays to Shelvey’s strengths.

Should Rondon, Mutu or Ki SY change and adapt or should it be Shelvey ?

The decision for Rafa, I suppose, is who plays at right back (as Manquillo has been exposed as having no pace and no bottle) and who replaces Kenedy.

Jail i didnt say whay wingers to buy I said we should switch formations to 4321 as our wingers are ineffective. A manager needs to find a formation to suit players at his disposal and i believe 4321 should be tried maybe against forest. Our play is better suited to shelvey dinking it into box so if we had muto rondon and perez or ritchie running into box as shelvey dinks it over atleast its a game plan. Wingers rarely cross its always pass back and back to middle. Our full back always pass back or back to middle.

    From FA
I was wrong but there is a change
    Suspensions
This season, any cautions players receive will be specific to the competition they were playing in at the time. So, a yellow card in an FA Cup game, for instance, wouldn’t count towards a suspension in the Premier League.
However, red cards will apply across all competitions – although standard bans can now be decreased or increased in exceptional cases.

I read recently that the EFL cup suspensions and cards do not effect the league, this was implemented along with pens straight after 90 mins.

I don’t think the Chelsea game would count towards the ban as he is ineligible anyway, just my opinion, I don’t know the facts, I think he will still miss 3 further league games if he gets the ban, very quiet on that front this morning, can anyone confirm if the ref left it out of his report?

Ed Woodward entered the Man U dressing room
after the game at Brighton and talked to the players
for 10 minutes then skedaddled before Mourinho
    entered (Jose was giving interviews)

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall
to hear what he told the ManUre players.

Get some money on Jose going down the road

Totally agree on Gayle, he was a good out ball, the understanding was there. Shalvey looked lost at Cardiff hence all the stray long balls, Both Mbemba or Gamez could have filled in at right back as cover for Yedlin and done a better job than Manquillo or Hayden but were never given game time, instead they were shipped out to help finance cheap and tacky 3rd/4th choice bench warmers.

    Jib, previous post;

Your observation about Corbyn’s attendance at the Brighton/ Man u game, and your assumption that he, Jezza, would have supported MU, because Tony Bloom is Jewish!

That would have raised a smile in the Synagogue of the Glazer family, perhaps…

On the subject of parental name choices, Neville Neville takes some beating.

Also, John Wayne’s parents named him Marion. That must have some long term residual damage on the young lads psyche, no doubt…

    Jib/Jail – from yesterday.

Thanks. Yes I know Danny Ings plays for Southampton. The point I was making was this.
He moved at the very end of the window. However, he was fit as you would expect after a pre season with Liverpool. He’s started for Southampton and has already got himself a goal.

We sign Rondon and he does not seem to be totally fit. In fairness he may not be too far away.
Only thing is there always seems to be a complication with us. It’s never straight forward.

Re Spurs we were told Kane and Ali had just come back from their World Cup holiday. Did not seem to bother them.

Someone was making the point that your new signings need time to bed in.
Well, not really sure about that.

historically it has always been the case
that sides that had late Summer Euro games
always made the better start in the league,
presumably their lads were more match fit.

Strange you should mention Marion Morrison
    and Shirley Crabtree together.

They are both actually named for places.

In the USA there are 9 towns called Marion
    and 5 Marion Counties.

Big Daddy is named for his Dad Shirley Crabtree Snr
his family came from Shirley in the W Midlands
