Newcastle were interested in Club Brugge once capped Belgium International winger Anthony Limbombe in the summer.
But there is news from France and Belgium today that he has signed a deal to move to Nantes in Ligue 1.
It’s the first time the English window has closed early (on August 9th), so we are seeing some of our transfer targets of last summer moving to other clubs where the transfer window is still open.
Most European countries still close their transfer windows at the end of August.
Newcastle, Southampton, and Huddersfield were the Premier League clubs credited with an interest in the 24-year-old wide man.
He has signed a five-year deal at Nantes for a fee reported to be €7M – which is around £6.3M.
Maybe Newcastle could even have afforded that fee?
Whatever happens this season we are hoping that owner Mike Ashley will support Rafa in what could be Rafa’s last transfer window (at Newcastle) in January.
We are hoping Newcastle will be doing well in the league by then and that we can bring in two or three additional players to help the squad finish high up in the league.
That’s the hope.
Comments welcome – but remember discussions of politics are not allowed on the blog – please keep it to football and Newcastle – thanks.

Is it better to suck it all up or not read or watch any interview and make it up as you go along?
Do elaborate if you want me to comment or I’ll just ignore it…

We were only interested in him because
Chelsea were pissfarting about over Kenedy
Once Chelsea let us have the Brazilian we
dropped out and left the field to Huddersfield
who found his price too rich for their blood

..from previous..
Yeah I take the point, of course, about people possibly misconstruing video clips / protests or whatever..
But my view remains that it’s better to try than die wondering, and many will understand the effort… it will do more for the cause than against it.
We are doing this for all fans of NUFC including those who live too far away. I stress that this movement doesn’t pretend to speak for ALL fans views, but that’s impossible to cover anyway. We do what we can.

Au contraire it sounds very much as if you are doing it to salve your own
conscience.

Absolutely 100% agree and I applaud your efforts. I hope there’s another good turn-out on Sunday afternoon and that the sun shines on the righteous, literally and figuratively.

You are so far off the mark, but as ever you are entitled to your misguided opinions.

Comment #8To those who disagree with peaceful protest against Ashley, saying it is futile and pointless. What is the alternative when an individual is running the club into the ground? There is nothing Ashley wouldn’t love more than passive acceptance by the fans. His days are numbered, but I fear it will only be after another relegation post Rafa.
Ashley’s running of Newcastle is as misguided long term as his disastrous purchase of HoF.

Some disagreeing with a peaceful protest against the way Ashley’s ruining our club? It beggars belief!
No protests would’ve resulted in no votes for women, the poll tax continuing, Yankee missiles at Greenham Common, India under British rule, segregation laws in the USA etc etc
Sit on your arses and do nowt means Ashley’s reign continues. Sit on your arses outside SD and things might change!
