Rafa briefly talked about his contract in this afternoon’s press conference at Benton for the game at home to Chelsea on Saturday.
But he didn’t say too much other than it was not an issue at the moment.
Obviously, he wants to concentrate on the upcoming games so we get a good start to the season and Rafa said about his new contract “we can do that in the future.”
So we hope that means he can sign a new long-term contract in the future and stay at the club.
That’s the hope.
Rafa Benitez – my contract is not an issue
This is some of the manager said today, and he also sympathizes with the frustration of the fans:
“My contract is not an issue. We will wait and we can do that in the future.”
“We did business a little bit late in the window, we need to address that.”
“I have a lot of sympathy for our fans because they are really good. They would like to see the club doing things in a different way.”
“But when you go to SJP, support the players because it is the only way we can be successful.”
“I have to respect them but concentrate on my job”
The new Magpie Group are again protesting against Mike Ashley on Northumberland Street just before the game, but it’s clear Rafa doesn’t want any of those protests at the games.
He wants all fans to show unity and stick behind the team during the game, whatever happens.
Comments welcome.

When you are earning 5-6 million a year you can’t say too much but we all know what he wants!

Thanks for posting the 5-0 previously. Best game I’ve ever watched without a doubt! We will never forget it!

Comment #5Rafa’s doing nowt else other than reminding Ashley and the world at large that he’s a totally committed professional and the matter of his contract and the associated statement of ambition from the owner hasn’t gone away. He’s keeping the pot boiling

That clip of the ManU mauling just shows how far Ashley’s taken the club since he’s owned it. From such high hopes when he bought us to despair and frustration in 11 years. We owe him so much.

Didn’t you post that Grauniad link yesterday?
And, if there’s been rebuffed interest in buying Liverpool from parties in your neck of the woods, can we assume you’re actively lobbying that bidder to move his eyes towards SJP? You’re our man in the Gulf and we’re relying on you.

Good job we have YouTube, we’ll not see a Nufc side with that quality under Ashley.

Comment #10Lesh that ManU game was 22 years ago in October.
Eleven years before Ashley’s take over.
The club was well on the decline before Ashley ever
rocked up.

not sure i can take what you say seriously when you continue to support the red anti semitic one, the guy is a huge embarrassment to our country.
and secondly.
i see the logic in what you say, keeping a promise is not to much to ask for. but at what point do you, ( everybody who trusts) stop listening to him to stop being let down and making yourselves angry.
it’s said about me all the time on here how unhealthy it must be to bang the same drum about managers, when does this apply to the Ashley out brigade?
my original point was which one are we protesting about, so many just on this site alone don’t seem to know, they have there own protests which is very confusing to those looking in from the outside, which in turn make it’s all look a bit stupid, because the Media will focus on the most pathetic and make it look quite stupid.
watching Lee from Newcastle fans TV on sky was very embarrassing, not a spokesman for any group and no real message to give out. just a broken record

Nowt wrong with Black and White mate! 🙂
Don’t forget that balls then were big heavy things (especially when wet) with laces. To get that much power into a header was quite a feat.

So Ashley just finished us off. Is that what you mean, Jib?
Well up until March 2016 he hasn’t helped much.
With the appointment of Rafa hope has risen
In May 2007 SJH and Fat Freddy were taking the club nowhere
At least the present incumbent has a few bob behind him
It a long tortuous progression but I’m sure we’ll get there.

Comment #25Those leather footballs needed dubbin on them regularly or they would crack. Same with the leather boots. The bits with the laces were lethal if they were not tied correctly. That’s when men were real men and a group of fellas who weren’t real men all got together and started a football club – Sunderland.
Aye..those were the days !!

Thanks for your kind thought but I didn’t need your reminder that that match took place before Ashley rocked up to save the club. I remember it well even after 20 plus years – in fact I remember where I was that night though not at SJP. And for good measure, Mordues had ‘5-0’ available on the pumps of some bars within a day or two of that memorable night.

Imagine the likes of Milburn heading and getting power behind a soaking wet, mud covered, slimy leather case-ball and catching the lace while playing on a clarty pitch? We can but wonder what the likes of Milburn, Len White and the like would be able to do with the modern game ball.

Comment #38I got a great laugh at catchy the Trump supporter decrying discrimination, very rich indeed. Nothing anti-semitic has been said by you know who, and if you want to bring up the ‘Zionist’ thing circulating today, do your research first and watch the full interview.
“my original point was which one are we protesting about, so many just on this site alone don’t seem to know, they have there own protests which is very confusing to those looking in from the outside”
It seems simple enough, a website named ‘AshleyOut’ is self-explanatory. Everybody aside from maybe Jib wants Ashley to go.

Yes, ‘the present incumbent has a few bob behind him’. Next time you have a catch-up, perhaps you’d ask him when he’s going to pay for the SD advertising and spend the few bob the club must’ve accumulated recently.
Oh and you might ask him to sign the lease to Strawberry land he’s purloined, back over to the club. That’d enable the club to either expand SJP or if it’s too late, collect some substantial rent for it from him.
Every little helps eh?
