Reports – Benitez And Lascelles Fall Out After Argument In Training

NBC Sports reported before the game today at St. James’ Park they were hearing rumors that Rafa Benitez and captain Jamaal Lascelles had a fall-out in training this week,

The news is Rafa wanted Jamaal to play on the right of a back three for the Chelsea game and Jamaal is reported to have refused.

We assume Rafa would play Federico Fernandez in the middle.

If that’s true then it’s the very last thing we want to happen – problems within the squad – self-inflicted.

Especially between the manager and captain who have both been outstanding over the last two successful seasons.

Rafa Benitez and Jamaal Lascelles in happier times

When you look at it – if the news is true – then Jamaal is at fault because he should play where Rafa wants him to play.

And Rafa seems to have quickly put his foot down and didn’t include Jamaal in the squad for today’s game against Chelsea.

There were even rumors this morning that Jamaal would not be in the squad.

Oh my – now we really need a win today.

Comments welcome.

Seriously with our squad I’d be setting up like this too. What a bunch of shocking players we have out there.

What we are going to try and play some real football with the likes of Ki and Diame to wow that Chelsea midfield? It’s a joke. The squad is abysmal. Beyond our first XI at the very least, but even that is well below par for a team trying f to finish top half of this league.

Rafa pisses me off a lot with team selection sometimes but to suggest he should be ‘having a go’ at this game is madness. He is, he is doing it the only way possible.

Your headline suggests that it’s fact you’re reporting when it’s speculation and Rafa’s saying that Lascelles has an injury.

Now let’s add Shelvey to the mix and they’ll have him at odds with Rafa too. Soon it’ll be Rafa’s in conflict with the dressing room, world war 3 starts af SJP. Ffs

I wouldn’t be surprised if Bishop’s behind the story as dissent in the camp, an unsettled Lascelles is just the sort of distraction he’d want as the heat om Ashley’s building up.

Rafa: “Jonjo has been playing with pain in the last two games.
We said to him: ‘You can’t carry on with pain’.”

Bit galling seeing Mitro scoring two today, but Rafa just doesn’t like players with that kind of temperament. I really don’t think it was Mitro’s ability that was the problem. Personally I really like the lad and would have loved to see him inherit the number nine shirt. Shelvey could have gone the same way without his work making progress with the psychologist.

First of all well done for our defensive work.
But it’s difficult to watch ffs boring we’re at home.
As far as Mitrovic goes if he was on the pitch playing for us it would be still 0-0 atm no service no goals.

I’ll have to wait for full time to go home. My metro train is currently delayed on the edge of Newcastle United’s 18 yard box.

…it’s a point but what will we take with us from such a game?

    Wtf?

I know Murphy was looking for that by cutting across, but it still happened, should be a free-kick.

Rudiger has dominated Rondon all game. Tough afternoon when you’re positioned 50 yards in front of anyone.

Murphy is frustratingly poor. Absolute kick and run merchant. He plays as if he’s a 17 year old bursting onto the scene. Really needs to start playing with some composure and end product if he wants to stay here.

Murphy is knackered, take him off ffs

    Joselu instead of Muto?????

Need legs, some form of outball, Muto will chase everything so put him up front and just hit it long in behind them, at least we can get out of our box

There hasn’t been a decent chance for either team.

One of the most boring hours of football I’ve seen, by Rafa’s design.

Hopefully we can pinch a winner somehow.

This is abysmal. As sourness suggested, any other manager wud be hung out for this. Hope for a goal but even if we win this is a joke.

Such a shame this season we still have to witness performances like this. Unfortunately that’s what a £25 million net profit gets you.

Our football is downright pathetic. Just look at Wolves yesterday against man city and look at this shambles today by us.

Just look at wolves and Brighton and what they did against man city and man utd. Just embarrassing.
