Captain And Manager Move Swiftly To Repair Any Damage

Jamaal Lascelles was left out of the matchday 18 yesterday for the Chelsea game, because of a slight ankle injury but he will likely be back for the League Cup tie at Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.

Rumors were circulating before the game that Rafa and his captain had an argument on the training field and that Jamaal had refused to play in a back three on the right-hand side.

Rafa played Federico Fernandez in the middle in his debut and Fabian Scar on the right – again in his debut with left-footed Ciaran Clark on the left.

All three played well in what was a dogged fighting display by the lads in a 2-1 defeat.

Rafa Benitez – on the touchline yesterday

The reports could be accurate but both Rafa and the captain made light of it after the game.

Here’s a tweet sent out by Jamaal:

And this is how Rafa explained the absence of Jamaal after the game:

“Jamaal had an ankle problem and we decided we had enough with what we had. We have enough center-backs That’s it.”

Both men are mature and hopefully will not let this altercation break their strong relationship and the great work they do for Newcastle United.

We don’t want any self-inflicted damage done at Newcastle – we get enough pundits trying to do that all the time – including after the game yesterday.

We hope to see Jamaal captaining the side on Wednesday night at Nottingham Forest, and we need a win in that game.

Jonjo Shelvey also missed the game but he will be out for a couple of weeks so he will miss the next two games before the two-week International break with Ki Sung-yueng deputizing in central midfield.

Its hardly a secret that i dont rate Lascelles, so for me to say we when i talking about his fan club is not really earth shattering news,

last season i said he was our 4 best CB,

the dilemma you face is, IF true, do you keep golden boy or sell him, as you can not have a player dictating to the manager, then refusing to play because he didn’t get his way.

Id sell him in a heart beat for 30 mill upwards, he will never get an England cap,

Lascelles is a top guy at running his mouth of though, which to me lends a bit of weight to the whole story.

I think Rafa has to get his priorities right

Fringe players vs Forest order of the day

He’ll be doing his mate Aitor Karanka a favour.

Rondon looks like a sticking plaster and not a longer term solution to our need for a striker Rafa actually wants and trusts.

I agree with Catchy. Lascelles reminds me of Steven Taylor. A lot of piss-and-wind but not much of a football brain or skill.

Let’s let the dust settle eh?
As Rafa said in his post match, Chelsea are devastating when they play between the lines, they run you ragged and eventually the goals come. Multi million pound squad packed with top international players against a shoe string budget outfit. What we did wasn’t pretty, nobody would argue that point. But what Rafa did against what is, frankly, superior opposition , is what they least wanted us to do. We stayed in the game, frustrated them, restricted them to virtually no chances until the ref got pished off and gave a poor penalty.
    It nearly came off..

I will say right now that unless we dig in in a similar fashion for the majority of the game against Man City at the Etihad we will get a monumental beating.
People admire wolves for their plucky home game against them, me included, but Man City could have won 5 or six were it not for the bar / post / some major slices of luck.

Woodman to start in goal against Forest before the Loan window ends.
Sterry, Frederico in defence and probably Schar, so both CDs get more game time. LB?
Ki and maybe Longstaff in midfield.
Atsu, Muto and Joselu to start in attack, with the left wing open for either Kenedy or Murphy.

I was pleased with our new defenders but Dummett as a wingback offered nothing going forward, we lack pace in every position but look at the facts , our average price for player on the pitch £4million ,Chelsea £30M+. Subs we brought on £20m Chelsea bring on 1 player worth £50M.
We are in a different league to most of the PL and will be relegated and Rafa will leave and hopefully Fat Ash loses all his money and no one buys season tickets ,the only way to get Ashley out. I am afraid to say relegation is the only hope to end this nightmare.

It is a shame that as the game yesterday progressed towards the final 20 minutes, i was sure the referee was going to have an influence on events.

Amazing how nobody hears from catchy for ages after we had a great second half of last season getting to 10th which was beyond all expectations and as soon as we lose to a team whose players cost nearly 10 times what ours do, then lo and behold he’s there gloating again, glad that we lost so he can spout his vitriol again. It’s very distasteful to still claim to be a NUFC fan given the hugely compromising and endless fire fighting circumstances the manager has been and is constantly under. Plus going on previous Catchy recommendations didn’t McLaren just lose 7-1 and 4 in a row at QPR and I wonder what OGS is up to these days.

I will agree I too am not a massive Lascelles fan as I think he is somewhat technically and positionally lacking, albeit physically imposing and if he is now playing the big time Charlie b—-ks with Rafa that is a very worrying sign. However, was very impressed with Fernandez. I guess you don’t get 32 Argentina caps for nothing.

Shame about Yedlin, great pace and work rate but seems to always crucially and fatally lose his man at least once a game.

So the only way to get rid of Ashley is to be relegated? Like the last two times?? Are you an nufc fan? Loads like you seem to be willing the club/team to fail, i think you may be on the wrong fan forum.
