Can Newcastle Make It Through To Next Round Of League Cup?

Newcastle travel to Nottingham for tomorrow night’s game at the City Ground in the League (Carabao)  Cup.

The rules have changed a little this season, and if the scores are level after 90 minutes, they go straight to penalties.

So we wonder how many games will end up decided by penalties in this second round of games?

Forest beat us 3-2 at the same stage of the competition at St. James’ Park a year ago so we hope we can get through this time.

Sean Longstaff – local lad could start this game tomorrow

It would be very disappointing if we get knocked out of these cup competition in the early rounds.

But Rafa is prioritizing Premier League survival again this season, and he will give opportunities to some of our fringe players in this game.

20-year-old central midfield player Sean Longstaff could get a game tomorrow night in addition to 22-year-old right-back Jamie Sterry – both local lads.

Forest are in 13th position in the Championship having taken 7 points from their first 5 games – four draws and one win – so they are unbeaten.

Catchy, you probably get really frustrated banging your head against the wall saying the same things over and over and having people like me just not listen.

I feel the same when I address my comments to you.

We’ll never agree on Rafa and his tactics, so why do we not just acknowledge that and move on to talk about other stuff instead?

I hope Lobby gets a game and shows what he can do against a decent team. Sterry, too. Both have the skills and temperament to be successful in the English game but need opportunities to show it. This game could be just the thing for them.

Catchy you said you could understand the negative tactics against chelsea, then when he plays with those tactics against chelsea you slaughtered him, you just simply hate the bloke, no matter if we got a draw you would simply hate him, even if he wins a cup here you will hate him, I don’t believe for a second you want him to stay, you want him gone, god help us when we get allerdyce here, you will probably defend him.

Catchy players have come out and defended the tactics, some have said we will need to do exactly this same against Man City, they don’t sound offended

Rob, I never thought we shud go toe to tie with Chelsea but wud u agree that Rafa trying a bit harder, like 10%, to attack? We are losing these games although our GD might help in the end, but we are getting zero points. Man City will be horrific, and I can live with that, but a think it’s fair to ask for a seriously compact defence and a few more attacks. As I said, if bobby Robson was here, he wud do same, with same resources

    Rob

the message sank in with Pardew eventually.

some people are happy plodding through life not thinking about anything, such as yourself.

some people like Jail only see the value in how much a thing costs, or shinny new players ooh.

I like to think, what if. just because one door shuts dosnt mean everything is closed.

have i been spoiled by SBR and KK, i don’t think so, We didn’t win a thing and am proud as punch we gave it ago.

that’s all i ask for, give it a go, he was a coward last week vs Cardiff. and he plain just threw in the towel vs chelsea.

players will always publicly back the manager, you know that, plus Rondon wants a permanent move, what did u expect him to say, i bet he is gutted that we started to attack when Joselu came on.

Lascelles spoke out and got benched, that’s a warning to the rest of the squad

Rob1971, I think your St James’ Holdings is not the same as the NUFC St James’ Holdings. The one in your link seems to be (have been) a nightclub operator in the Far East

    https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=37096856

This could be the source of this entire rumour, someone misinterpreting the historic takeover of a similarly-titled company to Mike Ashley’s holding company and making the wrong assumptions.

No offence meant, btw, I just thought this was an important correction to make.

Munster, I saw your question last night about 10% more attack. How do you achieve that? How do you go against a full-on attacking team and know what would happen if you open up just a little more? What is ‘just a little more’ anyway?

Seeing as people like stats, just put to one side the possession and passing stat and look at shots, shots on target and corners for us and Chelsea. You’ll see they are incredibly similar. Just because we surrendered possession doesn’t mean we were not competitive, just that we didn’t play expansively.

Rafa is the gaffer, he gets to pick the tactics and the players and he lives or dies by the results. Not a single result or three results at the start of the season, but the results after a season or two. Remember we won the Champo? We finished in the top half of the table last season? How about we give the guy a break, get behind him and give him our support and judge him on results at the end of the season? I think he’s earned that many times over.

Rob,I’ve no doubt whatsoever that he sits prying for a defeat to try and justify his opinions, I simply can’t see the point in claiming to be a supporter of a club if you’re constantly willing them to lose.

Lascelles spoke out and got benched… according to the daily mail. When lascelles came out and confirmed on twitter after the matchsaying exactly the same as Rafa, ankle injury. Schar also comments this “I found out I was playing for definite on the day of the game, but in training, during the week you get an idea that you could play from the drills you do.”

Catchy if you think Ashley will get a better manager in than Rafa then you are deluded, look at his managers in his reign, he has had 3 quality managers in Keegan, Hughton and now Rafa, he has mucked both of them about, Keegan left as he is not a yes man, Hughton was wrongly sacked and Rafa will walk away this summer because of lack of backing, you keep believing we will get better, but again look at the others we have had, Carver, Pardew and Mclaren, Kinnear, the one common theme is all the managers we available for nothing, our next manager will be exactly the same, someone who is without a club

Rob, I’ve said a few times, even if we got this young rising star manager from the continent who plays beautiful football while bringing through the youth from our dilapidated academy, how long will he hang around when he realises that it’s his fifth choice targets being chose and that the owner does not want any on field success. The guy is truly deluded.

I don’t get the 10% more attack either, what happens if we attacked at 11% more lol. Joking aside, Murphy and Ritchie did try to attack, especially first half. Just down to lack of quality that we lost the ball. Second half we got penned in pretty much, Murphy got fouled a few times on the break but never got anything from the ref.

I keep seeing that we supposedly matched them when we went a goal down. How exactly? Chelsea broke on us like 2-3 times where we looked exposed. Most other days we would have got punished. That’s not matching them, that’s riding your luck.

Interesting how Mourinho is unraveling. Shows that all these coach people are just humans, doing their best.

In fairness, that result doesn’t reflect the game. 25 attempts by Man U, on another day they would’ve won.

Bxxxxxxs cost me a tenner 🙂

Munster we were 3 minutes from getting a good point playing with those tactics, I don’t like them but fully understand them, especially with lascelles, Kenedy & Shelvey missing, everyone’s attitude would have been the tactics were spot on if it wasn’t for a incorrect call on the penalty and an own goal

Jail there will be slim pickings from the youth, Rafa wants money invested in the academy to improve things, It’s another thing Ashley has knocked back, the likes of Eddie Howe is getting far more backing at Bournemouth than any manager will get here

I seem to remember people were disappointed we didn’t get anything from the Spurs game, despite a decent performance. Some posters were saying Rafa should have changed things, if we had made some subs in the last quarter we could have won.

Interesting that they demolished Man U, a far more expensively assembled team than NUFC, away from home, scoring all three of their goals in the last 40 minutes of the game last night.

It’s almost as if Rafa thought making big changes via substitutes would be playing into Spurs’ hands….

A positive from the weekend for me was the fact that Rafa made 6 changes to the team, mostly new players and we still looked well organised, everyone knew their jobs and we kept our shape well for most of the game. All this talk of setting us up to defend is horsesh1t.We done what we always do,contain and counter but the times we did win the ball back and try to start attacks our passing was terrible, either kicking it straight out of play, giving them the ball back, poor 1st touches.

Catchy / Munster anda few others are unbearable after a defeat here .
Willing a defeat to score points .
Match days brings them all out the woodwork too.
You can sense they are on spiritual high just getting in cheap shot after cheap shot and yes they will us to loose under Rafa .
Just sickens me they actualy call themselves supporters .
Wish I had a hotline to Rafa to assure him for every catchy and Munster there are thousands of us who understand his fight and the fact that he has stayed a class act .
It’s not just what he is doing on the field ..the guy is a workaholic and never stops trying to sort out a club that is rotten to the core on every level .
When he is replaced it will be with a one of the usual suspects who needs the job and will be happy to keel stum about the third rate set up to stay at the helm .

you guys must singing come by ya lmao.

you are all grown men basically saying i’m better than you.

you all must really hate your life’s to accept the crap we watch.

Rob, no doubt about it, Rafa is a highly decorated manager, and I know it frustrates you more than Me that Rafa is not funded the he could be, I fully understand he could do better with better players.

but there lies the problem, your just happy to have him, even though he does not trust his players to carry out his instructions,

he is far to intelligent for the group he has, IMO only Shelvey Kennedy and Dubravka are in the bracket good enough, the rest are average prem players.

Rafa is like renting a ferrari for the weekend when you drive a Lada, you get in, you can see how fast it is, but u only drive it the same speed you drive Lada.

it’s wasted money. we will never get the best out of him. but he is shiny
