Video Highlights – Nottingham Forest 3 Newcastle 1

For those fans who haven’t seen the highlights and goals last night in our 3-1 loss to Nottingham Forest in the League Cup then here they are.

Things looked good after 92 minutes when it was 1-1 with an excellent equalizing goal from Salomon Rondon, but then we went to sleep.

Three goals in extra time – unbelievable – unfortunately not enough of them were for Newcastle.

Rafa Benitez calmed Ayoze Perez at the end of the game last night
Perez should have had a penalty in stoppage time

Nice to see new people commenting on the blog. All excited about big money signing rumours. Interesting timing.”

Interesting timing regarding new people on the blog commenting negatively on Rafa…

We lost 2 – 3 at home to the same team at
    the same stage last season.
I don’t recall last season being a flop

Lol, how was I cherry picking? Everything I had said was what you told me previously in an earlier thread. I’m bored of that now anyway :/

And Rafa is getting the most of the group of players, by your own expectations he finished two places higher last season so I don’t think it’s a case of not being able to work with lesser players. Your logic is like asking a guy to do a job and when he does it successfully and better than you expected, you sack him anyway. That isn’t cherry picking.

Rafa may well turn this around, if anyone can…..
The same effect on player morale was achieved by Ashley in 2012/13 when he announced, that despite finishing fifth the goal was simply to survive. After all the hard work the players put in achieving that fifth spot it was a massive slap in the face.
The players will not have enjoyed that black November last year and would feel they deserved a whole lot better than being strengthened by players who didn’t manage to survive in the top flight.

Rafa treated last night’s match like a pre-season friendly – resting key players, giving minutes to fringe players/new boys. This is understandable given Cashley’s reluctance to fully support the manager.

This was supposed to be our consolidation season, but I fear we’re going to continue in survival mode for some time to come. Getting in journeymen players as back-up is not consolidation.

He finished tenth and should have been sacked and replaced with an inferior manager because catchy says that squad could have finished twelfth.

More posters saying that Rafa doesn’t have confidence in his players, everything he is saying is the exact same as last year that he hasn’t the players he has and not particularly what he wanted. Didn’t have a big issue last year why does it now?

Pretty soon people will start saying Rafa’s goatee is putting the players off!!

All the Rafa haters on here can you not see the one constant in the last 11 seasons of failure, relegations, abject misert etc? it’s Ashley yet the answer on here is always blame the manager, Catchy, Sutty your logic to sack rafa for an inferior manager like Carver, Mclaren etc will only lead to the relegation that happened with Mclaren, we won’t suddenly shoot up the league, nothing will ever change at the club until Ashley leaves

Purposefully stayed off the blog last night, knew what some would make it.

I don’t know what people expected last night. It was a scratch team full of newbies, kids and fringe players. The senior players who did play let themselves down (Atsu and Kenedy in the main). They need to find their mojo again and fast.

If we were going to play that team in the League every week, I would be concerned, but as we’re not I see no reason for calling for Rafa’s head. What if we’d played a full-strength team and two of them had been injured?

Even if we had played a full strength team we could still have lost, this is a cup match and anything can happen, especially against a well-organised decent Champo team with a striker with a point to prove.

In the end, we should have had a penalty that was as clear as day, which would have sent us to penalties. We may have come through that with a win, we may not, but as Jib has said we could do without the distraction anyway.

In terms of positives, I thought Longstaff and Sterry showed up well, both proved they have a rightful place in the squad and they linked up well together, which is no surprise. The rest struggled to gel as a unit.

Some of you need to get a grip….

Rafa will get a result, and you wums, will say see i told you, you take match by match not linking anything together, only blame my boss Ashley who pays me so handsomely that i’m making a fence just for fun.

    your logic is baffling

as Trump would say Low IQ people.

Good on you travelling – fans on TV looked mighty pis**d off
I sit in the middle of the Gallowgate and the mood amongst the fans is changing at the style of play – yes we haven’t the best players in the league but whoever we play it is the same set up same subs
Same style of football lack of movement
The one thing the players had was a togetherness yet last night I saw something different – no leader no bite no togetherness no movement couldn’t be bothered attitude
If that prevails we are in deep trouble

Did catchy seriously say he should have been sacked after finishing 10th? he over achieved as Ashley said on sky the team was good enough to finish 12th, that just shows how much Catchy hates Rafa then and he said he wanted him lol, dear god I can’t wait to see his posts when Allerdyce takes over

Charlie I sit in the gallowgate too mate, the simple question is who we going to get to take over if Rafa leaves, or simply who else is better out their for free who would work under Ashley? their is only Allardyce, Pardew types who will take it so simply keep the team up and take their wages? they are way worse than Rafa.

With Catchy..read his wind-up drivel without taking much of it very seriously. My advice is acknowledge it,have a laugh every now need then, and then ignore.
He’s not that good at it,too inconsistent, and can only pull it off when a bad run gets going.
Every now and then weird irrelevant sexual, political references creep in. Can’t help himself..

Apparently Souness is signed up with the KBA agency that is how he has been sticking the knife into Rafa and defending Ashley, I hope to god he is not lined up to take over, he is free and available Catchy would probably take him over Rafa

sitc, I agree with you on the folk demanding Rafa’s head – best ignored.

The problem is that poison spreads, Catchy, ilovetoon and the like may be a minority but they’re noisy and I don’t mean just on this site, I mean across tw@tter, comments sections of news outlets, other blogs and wherever they can make themselves heard.

The players can pick up on this, as can the manager and if they do it can’t be helpful.

Can’t believe some of the Twonks on here. Just because we managed to lose 3-2 to Forest last year dont despair we can still do what we did last year! That must include the frightening losing run when we dropped like stone into a relegation spot. Survived through the desperate acquisition of loan players. Don’t get me wrong 10th was a great achievement but expecting to do a Houdini every year is like dancing with the devil. Hardly a solid foundation to build your club.
