Rolando Aarons finally got out on loan very late this summer, and he is on a six-month loan at Czech club Slovan Liberec.
Rafa has talked today about the circumstances surrounding Aarons’ loan, and the Newcastle manager wants him to play as many games as possible before January.
Rolando has been dogged by injuries at Newcastle, but Rafa thinks he has the skill to succeed, but he has to play consistently week-in, week-out to improve his game.
Rolando Aarons – on loan at Czech club Slovan Liberec
This is what Rafa has said about the 22-year-old winger in the Chronicle today:
“When you analyze his position, we have Kenedy doing as well as he was last season, you still have Atsu, Ritchie, and Murphy too.”
“So to have a young player like Rolando he was not playing too much, afterward he was injured.”
“He needs to play, he needs to prove to himself and to everyone he is a good player for the future.”
“He has the potential. He needs a little consistency, he needs to play games in a row and that is the key for his confidence.”
“He has played a couple of games, then on the bench, he needs to play.”
Rolando can still resurrect his career at Newcastle, but it’s probably a long shot at the moment.
He must have a good loan spell in the Czech Republic after disappointing on loan earlier this year at Hellas Verona in Serie A.
And Rangers’ manager Steven Gerrard has expressed an interest in the player but didn’t go after the winger because of his lack of playing time.
What do you think?

Comment #2The bus is rolling this morning. My thoughts on the last few articles:
Rafa will play JonJo, even if for 30 minutes at the end of the game as it starts to open out.
Kenedy may well have skills galore, that’s never been in doubt. He needs to learn how to apply them consistently, which is the difficulty for any young player in the PL.
Aarons is essentially playing to earn himself a move to another club. Last chance saloon for him, I’m afraid. Shame as I think he has some talent but maybe not enough to replace the first choice starters here now or in the future. Should end up with a Champo team I hope.

Comment #4Jib, I had no idea Bellerin had come out. I think that makes him the first openly gay Premier League footballer, I’m surprised more hasn’t been made of it.
Will make no difference to a player’s ability to play the game, but it could potentially make a difference to a dressing room dynamic. There are a large number of bigots within the game, sadly, both on the playing / coaching side and on the terraces.
Good luck to the lad, I hope he does well and can be a figurehead for all the many gay players who must exist within English football but are currently afraid to come out.

Comment #6On Bellerin: doing a quick Jib like Google I don’t think he has come out but just saying he is often taunted for it because of his long hair etc. as in this

Any tips or ethical points you can make, Robleenio? Isn’t this where you step in and come into your own?

Comment #10AncientC, I dunno – I don’t really understand the first comment and besides, Micky can look after himself.
I’ve already spoken about the second one.
I’m pleased to know you value my input, however.
