Newcastle reportedly put in an offer over the summer for 21-year-old Nice winger Allan Saint-Maximin.
The report is in Nice-Matin today.
The French U21 winger only moved to Nice from Monaco in the summer of last year, and he played 36 times for Nice with 4 goals last season.
He started his career at Saint-Etienne back in 2013 and came through their Youth Academy and spent time on loan at both Hannover 96 and Bastia to get some first team playing experience.
He played 54 timers out on loan and made 17 appearances for Saint-Etienne before moving to Monaco in 2015, and has been compared to Eden Hazard and Neymar for his dribbling ability.
21-year-old Nice winger Allan Saint-Maximin – has huge potential
Newcastle and Sevilla are reported to have made an offer for the player in the summer; Saint-Maximin has played for all the French youth sides through U21.
The offer was not accepted, but Saint-Maximin could be a Newcastle target in January or next summer.
This season he has scored two goals in five games for Nice and has made a good start to the season.
He is right-footed and usually plays on the right wing, but he can also play on the left or as an attacking midfielder.
He has a contract at Nice that runs through June of 2020.
The young winger has often been compared to both Eden Hazard and Neymar (one such article is in GOAL) for his ability on the ball, but he’s not the finished article yet by a long way.
But who better than Rafa Benitez at Newcastle to bring out that skill?
The youngster has loads of natural ability, and he is an excellent dribbler of the ball.
