Some bad news for Newcastle with the club taking the unusual step of announcing that Salomon Rondon has sustained a thigh injury and the unfortunate thing is the club don’t know how long he will be out for.
Rondon struggled at Crystal Palace with a thigh strain last week and was replaced by Joselu for the second half of that game.
That wouldn’t have helped things that he played the first half when he was injured.
Salomon Rondon – has thigh injury – but how serious is it?
Here’s the announcement on the Newcastle website:
Rondon sustains Thigh Injury
The Venezuelan striker, who is on a season-long loan from West Bromwich Albion, was withdrawn from the match at Selhurst Park at half time.
Rondon is undergoing treatment with the Magpies’ medical team and further assessment of the extent of the injury will be made in due course.
That even sounds like it may be a more serious injury than first thought – and that would be very bad news.
This is getting to be a bit like earlier this year when we signed Leicester striker Islam Slimani on loan and he was injured for most of the time he was at Newcastle.
Bit Rondon has a good record of injuries in that he has missed very few games in the past due to injuries.
This is not good news because we are already finding it difficult to score goals this season.
And we have Dwight Gayle on loan to West Brom for the season and we sold Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham last summer.
Yoshimori Muto is another forward we signed in the summer but he is still getting used to the physical nature of the Premier League.
Comments welcome.

Comment #2Ancient I agree that’s why we need to start getting points from home games against the likes of Leicester. Watford, Bournemouth etc which we failed to do last season

Comment #3It’s beginning to feel a little familiar, this – loan a striker, find out he’s crocked. Where did we see that before?
Ah yes, Sturridge at West Brom, that was it….

Comment #5On the strength of our interest he signed a new deal with WBA, he’s getting 40/80K a week regardless for the next three years or whatever. He probably doesn’t give a foot about a club that spent so long quibbling over his arrival.

Comment #6Munster, dunno what you read from previous but I’ll try again. 🙂
Top six I don’t expect anything from. If we do nick a point here and there it’s a bonus. Unlikely, but take it if we can.
The others we need to aim for at least a draw away and winning at home. That’s the aim, but no doubt we will lose some. So far, we’ve only played two teams around us – Cardiff and Palace away. Got a point from each – on target.
As for Yedlin, we need a full back to push him or for when he’s injured. That’s not Rafa saying you ain’t good enough, it’s bringing in cover. What happens if he gets took out for three months? We need full backs desperately.

Comment #7Joselu is our best striker in the club at the moment. His goals will come. I have a feeling he will bag 15 goals for us this season.

Comment #8ilovetoon8788, I don’t know whether to take you at face value or assume you’re being sarcastic, but whichever, I think you might be right.
Whether or not he is the best striker at the club, he’s now in possession of the shirt, is in form and has confidence. He could definitely go on to hit double figures this season.

Comment #9Respect the points! I firmly believer Hoser will have a breakout season with us and bag 8. Rondon will need a huge amount of rest and relaxation while he counts his money and will add another 3. Muto will peg 4 or 5 and Perez will catch fire and score six. That’s the forward scoring lads. That’s around 22! Read it and weep lads. Mitro will get at least that many by himself. It’s a good thing we spent all that money in the summer bringing in top,top strikers. Harrumph!

Comment #10Jackie Milburn is frowning and shaking his heed looking down on us. It’s a sad state of affairs. I could see about 8 goals from the midfield and another 5 from the back 4. We had better get a lot of clean sheets with that amount of scoring.

Comment #11Players we need more from straight away: Perez, Muto, Kenedy, the Bald Wizard, Murphy, Ritchie, and Ki. We need a huge improvement in all of them and right now would be the time.

Comment #12But don’t worry, Mikey is going to line up a loan of another third class striker in January. So… that should add another 2 goals…

Comment #13We have nobody in the club capable of going into double figures in the Prem. It’s plain as day. Rafa had better organize the best defense seen in English football over the last 10 years. If we concede less than we score it will be a minor miracle, especially with our possession rate.

Comment #15Possibly Rondon needs to be flown to Venezuela for treatment. Didn’t Colo used to fly to South America when crocked? And then since he’s already there he can play for Venezuela in the next internationals…. Simple solution really..

Comment #17Where do we go from here lads? Is it up or stay in the bottom 3? Big question mark there. Every match is a must win after ManU. We need at least 8 more points by the time we’ve played Watford in early November. Then 4-6 more points from Bournemouth and Burnley. I can see aboot 6 points in December, so at best around 20 points by end of year.

If we lose on Saturday there will be no doubt calls for his head. I’d say a win is 50/50 at the weekend, when/if a team keeps on losing the manager has to go, will Ashley be brave/ daft enough to sack him or will he just sit back and enjoy watching him get turned on by the fans. He’s already saved for relegation and thinks that our 40/52K crowds will get us back up again.

Comment #22G2, from a point of view of pure pragmatism, 20 points by year end will be an average return of 1 point per match and therefore on course for survival.
Also, we’ll be higher than 16th if we were sat on 20 points. Last season saw Stoke sitting on 20 points in 13th at the halfway point. We had 18 points and were sat in 15th.
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2751187-epl-table-2017-week-20-standings-after-wednesdays-premier-league-scores
So based on that, I think Ashley might look to strengthen but via loans like last season, unless there is a prior agreement in place with Rafa.

Comment #27Unfortunately this is a new season Rob. apart from Cardiff I think the bottom six will be better (Huddersfield will buck up). Anyway we’ll see. What I was trying to say is we have nowhere near enough offense to climb the table very much. I think we’re going to end up around14th-18th barring a miracle spend from Ashley in the January window. The squad is poor, full of second rate forwards. I hope Muto might be the exception but he can’t carry on like Perez, demanding a foul every time he hits the ground. We’re in for the long struggle leading to nothing except either relegation or another poor season followed by a new, mediocre at best manager. Ashley out. It’s the only positive way forward.

Yes I was dumbfounded when I heard the statement ‘ Enqs with childhood friends stated he was a devout Newcastle supporter ‘ or words similar…..
The bit about going over to the Middle East and asking £481 million was it ! Utter madness
Only he knows how much he wants and no doubt if a takeover goes through it will be similar to our transfer dealings ‘UNDISCLOSED FEE ‘

Comment #30Never take the mutterings of a buffoon like Ashley seriously. He can mention any number he wants as far as sale of the club is concerned. To date as far as anyone knows there has been only one serious bidder, the Staveley group and if rumours of their bid are close to true, they offered a reasonable amount for a club that is run like a rag shop. Carry on Ashley you fool. You wouldn’t know a plan to increase the value of the club if it hit you on the head.

Mitrovic was never going to work here with Rafa because he doesn’t fit into his system. Mitrovic himself confirmed that.
But yeah, sack him because the player he let go does well in a team that is perfect for his style.
The fact that you stated that he deserves to be sacked for that “alone” is your overwhelmingly clear agenda being pushed upon everyone once again.
Keep trying buddy, you’ll eventually earn yourself a fan club, there’s enough other deluded posters on here for that.

Joselu
Rondon..

Comment #35Mitro didn’t fit the rafa system so it wasn’t going to work unless……we changed the system. Funnily enough we have wingers that could have crossed for him to create them chances.
In my opinion the system should have been changed as rafa didn’t have the resources to do it his way, pick from what you have and play to there strengths rather than sell a prized asset and end up with no goalscorer, especially now that Rondon is out injured. Typical with Rondon, injury free at WBA but joins us and gets injured

Comment #40We are in trouble. I don’t know when the first win will come. But to sack Rafa would be a disaster. This squad is very poor. I only have faith in a handful of players. Surely even a pinhead like Ashley realizes there has to be a plan to allow the club some stability in the Prem? Possibly not. It doesn’t look like it to me so far.
