This Is More Bad News For Rafa Benitez

It was a very tough defeat to take yesterday but for the first hour of this game, Newcastle were by far the better side.

And Rafa Benitez will concentrate on that when he talks to the players about the game tomorrow.

A win yesterday would have been one of our best wins in decades but we threw away a two-goal lead in the final 20 minutes of the game and lost 3-2 at Old Trafford.

But there were many positives coming out of the game including goals for Kenedy and Yoshinori Muto in the first half – their first goals of the season.

And we saw that Muto worked his socks off for the team and he could become a very popular player on Tyneside – especially if he can keep scoring goals.

He’s a poacher and could well get goals for us this season.

Kenedy scores yesterday – his first goal of the season

However, both players were slightly injured yesterday and had to come off and they will be assessed by the medical staff.

This is what Rafa said after the game:

“It is important for us to have more players scoring goals.”

“It is a pity that both players left the pitch injured.”

“Hopefully, it will not be serious, and it will be good for their confidence.”

“We have more or less the same squad (as last season).”

“We changed some players, but last year we did well because we were consistent and we were working in the same way from the beginning to the end.”

“Hopefully, this year we will do the same.”

There are two weeks before our next game at home to Brighton so hopefully, the two players will be fit for that game.

Salomon Rondon should also be fit to play against the Seagulls.

    Sing in the corner,
My point justified yesterday. Our best performance of the season. Biggest contribution to that, Joselu not starting. Eating your criticism now you rat.

2 nil up after 70 minutes.
It has to Cashleys fault we ended up losing right?
Or was it the crap substitutions and the defensive set up?
It could not be the managers fault could it?
We defend and then put two useless lightweight forwards on and expect them to defend. That must be Ashleys fault.
By the way those two useless forwards cost 20 million. It must be Cashleys fault.

    2 points from 24.
    The worst ever start.
The same team came 10th last season (Mitro never got a game so is not included).
Not acceptable to blame Cashley for everything.
    Rafa walks on water.

    Yesterday’s game.

Robbed by a referee born and bred in Manchester. Never usually blame a ref but he was absolutely shocking and the stats show it.

I didn’t actually think a referee could ref a game if the club from his own city is playing in it?

Don’t let facts get in the way will you? At no point did I say Joselu should be playing instead of anyone. I pulled you up for relentless, repetitive daily abuse of one of our own players since the day he signed.. Wether he plays or not. A player who may not be up to our expectations but who has put in effort in whenever called upon.
I am just going to ignore you, you are simply a clueless troll. You are quite capable of showing yourself up all on your own.

You think ‘analysis’ is a niche porn flick.

    Sing

Last thread – thanks I think I am only voicing what many are feeling.

I didn’t add something else to the mix ( although i have mentione it before) which on reflection is perhaps the mjor and most apposite characteristic Rafa possesses and thatis he is a wily seasoned manager forged in other trying circumstances.

That is the one attribute that keeps me clinging to the belief that he can take on Ashley with the total fans backing ( extremely important) and not beat him but reach a deal that no other manager could. Enought to take us forward yet not as far as he we could do under a more enlightened owner or to where we could reasonably aspire but better than mediocre.

Like several on here including Ed I am in my Autumn years ( some might say Winter ) so I have grown weary of managers, even before Ashley saying Rome wasn’t built in a day and it will take time to get where we want to be but looking at where we have ended up, where other clubs arguably similar to us in potential ( Man City Chelsea Spurs even Everton) have progressed to it is a big ask.

Especially with the hancuffs of FFP which seem to have achieved the opposite of what was intended and not made a level playing field at all but protected the already rich powerful clubs.

I wish it weren’t so but we ( and other promoted clubs) can never again fly out of the Championship into the top 3 (no luck just totally deserved) in first sesaon up and stay in top 6 for next few years qualifying for Europe an a regular basis.

The journey will be slower and a much bumpier ride not just because of AShley or FFP but because SKY and the CL have completely strengthed the hands of the top clubs.

The future could bring a new breakwaway European league ( where we might once have taken a seat at the table) and good or bad for football in general in this global viewing era where clubs attract bigger following than National sides those involved can only get richer and more powerful.

It is ironic that in an era where ownership became even more vital to clubs we got Ashley – our only current antidote is Rafa

Hopefully 2 weeks of treatment and both Muto and Kenedy will be match fit again.

We obviously need them both, I’d be putting Muto in above Rondon personally.

Disagree hibbit. What sing is doing is singling out a poster for what? To big himself up. He’s a rat. And just made an enemy for life. His analysis is poor. Certainly someone who’s never kicked a football. Or else a mackem wum.

So Rafa brings on Hayden say for Kenedy ( forced substitution you realise not tactical) as he can defend and get forward ( ignoring his poor showing so far this season and width being needed)

Or maybe Clark – better suited to left side, not so rusty and can defend but can’t carry and keep ball well

Ok then make it Schar more elegant , hasn’t played much but can defend maybe can’t provide width either

Pick any one though and you now have a more defensive set up which might have stemmed or blunted Man U’s increasingly penetrating attacks but from previous experince not necessarily. We now have either 3 CB’s on pitch , one less out ball to a player with pace to get in behind Man U’s denuded defence which is there to be exploited and be a niggling concern for them and an increasing difficulty for us to play in their half and relieve pressure

Anyway you pay your money and you make your choice,. To add to our solidity the next substitution would be either of the remaining 2 of the 3 mentioned, not already having replaced Kenedy and presumably not like for like i.e. you would sacrifice another attacker or midfield. You aren’t suggesting Lascelles or Fernadez should be replaced presumably.

Kenedy has gone so we are looking at one from Perez, Muto or Ritchie. No? you are thinking of midfield OK Shelvey or Diame then and if you hadn’t used Hayden earlier an obvious choice would be Hayden for Diame.

That would have made sense last season but I am not convinced he would have done much more than give away more freekicks than Diame on Hayden’s current form. Let’s be honest as well until Diame stupidly gave away the free kick for the first goal no one was seriously thinking of changes (given what we had on the bench) Where is Ky btw?

I could go on with the various possibilities and hindsight makes PL managers of us all but Rafa yesterday was damned if he did and damned if he didn’t.

Make any of the changes being touted around and had we even draw game ( given that there is another side playing us with world class players – even on the bench! and a world class manager fighting for his job) then would we honestly be hearing Rafa hailed as a giving a lesson to Mourinho in tactics. No it would be why did we park the bus and concede possession yet again .

After a night’s sleep I remain gutted but satisfied with Raf’a choices but not Atsu’s performace but not to scapegoat him for a 20 minute spell where many sides of evcen better quality than us would have wilted,#.

Hoenstly wasn’t evreyone thinking would 2 goals with 80 + minutes to go at Old Trafford be enough for us? Might we not need another on? Yeah Schar Clark or Hayden will get us that when the inevitable happens and they get at least one back!

The reason why we lost yesterday was purely down to Ashley . They bring Sanchez on we bring Joselu – it dosnt take a mathematician to work that one out . They bring a £60M player on we bring a £5M player on Why ? Coz that’s all we’ve got , because Ashley won’t spend on quality players and that why we got beat . No quality in reserve . How people don’t blame Ashley is beyond me .

    Sanchez is on £400k a week, a £75k appearance payment and a further £2m if he has 40 assists/goals in a season.

How can we compete with that?

Another one of Ashley’s mates or just another pretend Geordie trying to stir up shit for Rafa ?

I think that there was a hell of a lot of belief in the side for the first half and unfortunately they sat back a bit at the start of the second half. By the time they realised what was happening it was too late to stop it.
However , Personally I felt happier to see that the starting 11 were far better than in the previous games so far this season.
We need to avoid injuries and more of what we saw in the first half yesterday.
One other thing that I found troublesome yesterday, Did you know that the ref was from 6 miles away from Old Trafford ? Just over the so called border. How the hell is that fair ???? Who the hell chose him ????
This became VERY apparent when he decided not to see the STONE WALL penalty that the Toon didn’t get ( FOR A CHANGE ) AND, How come no one else seen it and non of the pundits ( INCLUDING SHEARER ) brought it up !
More of the same old shit for Newcastle !!!!
